Social Dimensions of Roma Marginalization

The paper aims to analyze aspects of Roma marginalization, by identifying and assessing the dimensions of social needs within a compact Roma community, located in a marginalized urban area. The effects of the economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic increase inequalities regarding the economic and social situation. The major challenge is to reduce the risk of poverty, especially among families with children, people with disabilities and chronic diseases, but also the social exclusion of people at social risk, based on accurate measurements of social phenomena. The community profile indicates the social status of the inhabitants, which provides a picture of the degree of marginalization and social exclusion of Roma. Thus, the study was conducted by constructing a questionnaire as a research tool, which summarizes the results of the activity of information collection and processing, both based on statistical methods and percentage analysis. The problems faced by marginalized Roma communities are low participation in education, early school leaving, difficult transition to tertiary education, lack of adult skills, low skills among vulnerable people in the labor market, low access to services, poor health and housing. Measures for early detection of situations of social risk and intervention lead to positive effects in preventing marginalization and social exclusion.

THE STRUGGLE OF WOMEN EXISTENCE IN “ISN’T IT ROMANTIC” NOVEL BY WENDY WESSERSTEIN

This study aimed to reveal the struggle of women to gain existence in the novel as a representation of social phenomena. The data source of this research was Isn't It Romantic drama by Wendy Wesserstein. This drama is about women who want to achieve their dreams without the participation of their parents. They want to live without any interference from their parents. To reveal the struggle for existence, the researcher uses the existentialism approach by Simone Beauvoir. Existentialists fight for the nature of human existence, especially for women who have been subordinated to the patriarchal system. The method used in this research is Descriptive qualitative method. The close reading data collection method is effective in tracing data relevant to research variables. The analysis method is carried out critically by using an existentialism approach. The researcher got three main analyses toward the novel, they are: independence over women, authority in making decisions, and lastly, the same existence as a human being.

Use of Acronyms and Slang among Adolescents on Social Media

This research is related to the use of acronyms and slang by teenagers in social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. In this case, this research on the use of acronyms and slang in social media aims to find out the slang terms used by teenagers on social media and also describes a slang found in social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Then, it describes the meaning of slang contained in the social media and examples of slang sentences used by teenagers everyday on social media. This research is classified as a qualitative research type because in this research it tries to examine social phenomena in an atmosphere that takes place naturally and naturally. In analyzing the data, the researcher used qualitative methods with reading and documentation techniques. After that, some data can be found in the form of utterances or words that come from interactions between adolescents on social media. The results showed that, there were 25 examples of acronyms and 25 slang terms found by researchers in social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

Social Entrepreneurship In MSME Development

The creative industry through community-based industry on the scale of MSMEs, has developed quite well. The creative industry has the opportunity to continue to increase, because the industry is responsive to absorb the accumulation of social phenomena in society and pour it into the context of products and services. The problems faced by MSMEs are still homework, the problems include fulfilling the market aspect, which is caused by the availability of the goods produced. This study aims to obtain problem information and the right solution approach in answering the existing problems. The results of the study indicate that the problem of human resource availability can be done with alternative solutions in the form of a social entrepreneurship approach with the involvement of the community around the industry

Prospective Teachers, Generic Skills, and Student Community Service Program: A Case Study in the Indonesian Context

Many papers have been published in recent years describing prospective teachers` generic and teaching skills. However, to our best knowledge, little is known about how they acquire and apply these skills in real-life situations outside of the classroom, among communities through student community service program in particular. In other words, because empirical evidence in the literature has failed to recognise the implementation of prospective teachers’ generic skills among communities, the question on this topic remains open. Therefore, our purpose was to explore and describe prospective teachers’ generic skills when taking part in a community service program. This study is qualitative in nature, with a total of 150 students consisting of 100 females (67%) and 50 males (33%) enrolled at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in a public university in Indonesia participating by adopting a questionnaire and audio-recorded interviews for data collection. The data collected through questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while the information collected through the interviews was evaluated and interpreted using content analysis through coding classification and theme or pattern identification, with the goal of providing thorough descriptive interpretations of social phenomena. The findings reveal that the prospective teachers under investigation strongly agree and agree that community service program has benefited them personally, socially, and professionally, as well as improved their generic skills. They could develop their generic skills while participating in a student community service program. The findings of this study provide clear evidence that generic skills and the development of these skills are deemed important by students enrolled at teacher training and education. Based on the findings, the implications and limitations of this present study with several suggestions for future research are also discussed.

“Tomorrow belongs to us”: Pathways to Activism in Italian Far-Right Youth Communities

Based on long-term ethnographic research, this article contributes to the growing scholarship on far-right social movements by presenting an in-depth account of the Italian far-right scene. In presenting personal accounts of three activists and situating them within the milieus in which they are active, it sheds light on a variety of factors that push youth to engage in far-right militancy. Many researchers of far-right extremism have asserted the need to provide more in-depth knowledge on far-right militants, yet there remain important gaps that this article strives to address. First, it demonstrates the value of the ethnographic approach in the study of far right, which offers unique insights into the motivations for involvement and the relations between ideas, beliefs, and practices. Second, it shows the importance of situating present-day activism in a historical context, not only by looking for long-term patterns but also by paying attention to the ways studied actors engage with historical comparisons. Third, in engaging critically with some commonsensical approaches to far-right activists, the paper suggests that ethnographic studies of far-right activism can give us fresh perspectives on broader social phenomena beyond the far right per se.

You and Me Against the World: Biographical Narrative Analysis on Same-Sex Couples' Experiences in the Philippines

This article contributes to the emerging literature on gender studies, in general, and on the LGBTQ+ phenomenon, in particular. While the global society recognizes the rights of the third sex, other countries are reluctantly acknowledging while inadvertently stigmatizing LGBTQ+ individuals. Unfortunately, some Filipino same-sex couples were still the target of ridicule, criticism, and prejudice. In this paper, we analyzed via a biographical narrative the relationship dynamics of same-sex Filipino couples confronted with homophobia, heteronormativity, and discrimination. Biographical narratives established an excellent way of making theoretical sense of social phenomena such as gender studies. To do this, we interviewed same-sex couples from the provinces of Western Visayas, Philippines. The results revealed interdisciplinary perspectives that reflected the basis for engaging and maintaining such a relationship. A recurring essence across all identified perspectives that compelled same-sex couples to stay in a relationship was their mutual love. Mutual love becomes a strong driving force that keeps the relationship between same-sex couples all the more substantial while facing heterosexual society's disapprobation. The concepts of love and friendship, by extension, genuine same-sex relationship, when properly understood, can go beyond the border of human instinctual tendencies. Such impartial manifestation of love can extend across cultural differences and eventually build crossroads as avenues of sharing what one has without counting the cost. We recommend the need to further the campaign against homophobic views, albeit providing counseling intervention and psycho-education that help improve the psychological well-being of same-sex couples. Climate change is a most serious challenge. Committing the needed resources requires that a clear majority of citizens approves the appropriate policies, since committing resources necessarily involve a trade-off with other expenses. However, there are distinct groups of people who remain in denial about the realities of climatic change. This chapter presents a range of psychological and social phenomena that together explain the phenomena that lead to denial.

Social Work in Kosovo, Development, Challenges and Achievements in Mitigating Negative Social Phenomena

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the importance and impact of Social Work in mitigating negative social phenomena in Kosovo. Kosovo is a country in transition, a country with a high level of education, low economic development, high unemployment rate, high poverty rate, political instability, where we conclude that the increase of negative social phenomena such as: violence in the family, trafficking in human beings, abused children, dysfunctional families, divorce, abuse with psychoactive substances by young people, determine the inevitable need for social work in Kosovo. The thesis of this study is: What is the impact of Social Work in Kosovo in preventing negative phenomena such as domestic violence, violence against women and children? The main focus of this study is the analysis on the necessity and need for strengthening Social Work in Kosovo, the efforts, challenges, confrontations and clashes between time periods and political changes and systems that have already led to a new understanding of Social Work in Kosovo. Within the paper, the main areas taken for study are related to the principles of social work, aspects of social work, the need for social work, professional opportunities in the field of social work and the role of the Social Worker, which are the main axis of this paper. The summary with conclusions and recommendations will be at the end of this.
