Post-treatment adherence to the World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) lifestyle recommendations were associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL), fatigue, and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors. In a prospective cohort among CRC survivors (n = 459), repeated home-visits were performed at 6 weeks, 6, 12, and 24 months post-treatment. Dietary intake, body composition, sedentary behaviour, and physical activity were assessed to construct a lifestyle score based on adherence to seven 2018 WCRF/AICR recommendations. Longitudinal associations of the lifestyle score with HRQoL, fatigue, and CIPN were analysed by confounder-adjusted linear mixed models. A higher lifestyle score was associated with better physical functioning and less activity-related fatigue, but not with CIPN. Adjustment for physical activity substantially attenuated observed associations, indicating its importance in the lifestyle score with regards to HRQoL. In contrast, adjustment for body composition and alcohol inflated observed associations, indicating that both recommendations had a counteractive influence within the lifestyle score. Our findings suggest that CRC survivors benefit from an overall adherence to the WCRF/AICR lifestyle recommendations in terms of HRQoL and fatigue, but not CIPN. Specific recommendations have a varying influence on these associations, complicating the interpretation and requiring further study.

The paper presents the results of a successfully completed international project of the Department of Natural Sciences titled “Monitoring and identification of the entomopathogenic fungus Entomophaga maimaiga in Lymantria dispar populations” and funded by the National Research Fund in 2017-2019. Investigating the distribution of E. maimaiga in Austria and Bulgaria in 2018-2019 shows that the pathogen has expanded its range to the west and reached Lower Austria. E. maimaiga has been identified in Bulgaria as well and has become part of the natural enemy complex of L. dispar.

This study examines the correlation of website impact factor of institutional repositories (IR) of all eight universities in New Zealand and the Performance Based Research Fund (PBRF) quality score. The purpose of the research is to find out whether there is correlation between these two figures. The research problems are: the correlation between the IR homepage ranking and the PBRF quality score, the correlation between the IR website inlinks and the PBRF quality score, and the correlation between the IR website impact factor and the PBRF quality score. The research also studied the different web ranking tools and tried to find out whether these tools can be used to measure the quality of IR documents. The research used Yahoo Site Explorer to collect information of inlinks and also use other tools to collect the webpage ranking. The finding of this research are that there is small correlation between the IR website impact factor and PBRF quality score, and the page ranking is not a good tool to exam the quality of IR document as a whole.

The text focuses on the realization of the plein air as a part of a larger project (ARTguments) implemented with the financial support of the Research Fund of Sofia University. The art form “landart” was chosen not by chance. It is characteristic for artists to “argue”, to transform their ephemeral visual sensations into art installations – materialized in nature, digitally stored emotional provocations, which also rely on the “co-authorship” of the elements. The pictorial focus is on “unnecessary”, discarded, marginalized objects, without utilitarian application, but discovered and recognized as necessary in the process of creating a work of art. This is the so called by Juri Lotman process of renaming “external” to the artistic installation elements in which they “invade” from the outside world implanting themselves in the imaginary space of the visual work. The art event aims to unite different artists as a way of expression, to gather and impose diverse, even dissimilar concepts. The forum realizes conceptual works by traditional artists, materializes the artistic reaction viewed from different angles, meets a random audience with non-randomly created installations, and last but not least, embodies different works as different visual emotion. The concept of the plein air is subordinated to the philosophy of Khalil Gibran and in particular to his sentences from the eponymous edition „Sand and Foam“:“I am forever walking upon these shores, Between the sand and the foam, The high tide will erase my foot prints,And the wind will blow away the foam...”
