This research investigates the reasons of changing the agricultural land use to tourism in a developing country with different political, economic and social context (Iran). The method used in this research is qualitative, and unstructured interviews have been used to collect data. The target population of the research includes farmers who have sold their farmlands to investors in the tourism sector and experts from the agricultural department of the relevant county. The interviewees have been selected through using snowball method and after reaching theoretical saturation, the data collection process was stopped. The results showed that various macro and micro factors affected the process of changing the agricultural land uses to tourism, including the weakness of the agricultural sector in creating income and job opportunities compared to the tourism sector, the weakness of the land use laws and the lack of inter-organizational coordination in law enforcement, the weakness of the property registration system and the lack of a national cadaster, the lack of effective government support of the agricultural sector, the rapid rise in land prices and, ultimately, the change in the attitude of farmers both old and young once towards the agricultural activity and the level of welfare.

Abstract Metals and agrochemicals are among the main aquatic contaminants, being able to trigger oxidative stress in exposed organisms. The objective of this work was to evaluate the correlation between the level of oxidative stress biomarkers in Aegla crabs (Crustacea, Anomura) with (i) the set of metals present in the streams sediment and (ii) with land uses of three hydrographic basins. The study was carried out in streams (≤ 2nd order) of hydrographic basins in southern Brazil (Basins of Rio Suzana, Rio Ligeirinho-Leãozinho and Rio Dourado). In these streams were quantified the land uses and Cu, Cr, Cd, Fe, Mn and Zn concentrations in the sediment. The enzymes Catalase (CAT) and Glutathione Reductase (GR), as well as the level of membrane lipid peroxidation (TBARS), were analyzed in adult females. The PCA analysis showed that the distribution of metals was different between the basins. Cd, Cr and Fe were correlated positively with CAT and negatively with TBARS and GR. The Dourado basin had the lowest concentrations of these three metals and the highest levels of TBARS. However, in Dourado basin there is predominance of agriculture land use, and TBARS was positively correlated with agricultural land use. Besides in Dourado basin, GR activity was higher than in the others basins, indicating a compensatory response in relation to CAT inhibition. The basins of Suzana and Ligeirinho-Leãozinho rivers had lower TBARS values, which may be due to the induction of CAT in response to metals accumulated in sediment. In summary, this work indicates that in the basins with a higher concentration of toxic metals there is an adaptive response of CAT induction, which reduces TBARS in Aegla. On the other hand, in the basin with lower metallic contamination, TBARS occurrence was primarily influenced by agricultural land use.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of using time-series data of spatiotemporal fusion Landsat-MODIS imagery for mapping agricultural land use in An Giang province, Vietnam. The Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM) was adopted for fusion techniques to integrate the relatively high spatial resolution of Landsat (30 meters) and frequently revisit time of MODIS (MOD09Q1, 8-days). The Maximum Likelihood Classifier (MLC) was then used to classify the land cover categories based on variations of NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) time-series over the observation period. The overall accuracy is about 84.9%, and a kappa coefficient of K=0.7, which revealed the effectiveness of using Fusion Landsat-MODIS NDVI data in land cover classification at the provincial scale. The current of the agricultural land use was finally mapped, including seven categories, namely built-up areas (10.49%), double rice crops (4.8%), triple rice crops (68.24%), perennial tree/orchards (4.08%), annual crops (7%), water surfaces (3.07%), and forest (2.32%). The results indicate that the agricultural land use cover can be detected in detail using Fusion Landsat-MODIS imagery. The classification is dramatically higher compared to the map classified by a conventional method of solely Landsat 8 image analysis (overall accuracy of 67.3% and Kappa coefficient K=0.35). The research outcomes will support the detailed information for managers in evaluating the impact of climate change on the rice cropping system toward sustainable agriculture development.

Land is one of the key resources in agricultural production. The use of these resources is signifi antly different from the use of labor resources and financing. It is the land features that affect the assessment of their use efficiency. The analysis of literary sources has shown, there are a large number of approaches and methods to assess the effectiveness of land resources. This indicates a great interest of researchers and practitioners in the issue under study. Each of the researchers offers their own unique methodology for assessing the efficiency of land use. However, it is impossible to distinguish a single method due to various reasons. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the proposed methods are complementary. The main goal of this study was to assess the effectiveness of agricultural land use in France. In this regard we used following methods: analysis and synthesis, graphical method, method of comparisons. The analysis was carried out in three stages. The dynamics and structure of agricultural lands of the country, the harvested areas of the main groups of agricultural crops were analyzed, both cost and natural indicators were calculated. As a result, we can say that the studied indicators should be used in the express assessment of efficiency, they can also be used in the comparative assessment of the efficiency of agricultural land use. For a deeper assessment, in our opinion, it is necessary to use other methods of analysis.

Abstract. The availability of crop type reference datasets for satellite image classification is very limited for complex agricultural systems as observed in developing and emerging countries. Indeed, agricultural land use is very dynamic, agricultural censuses are often poorly georeferenced and crop types are difficult to interpret directly from satellite imagery. In this paper, we present a database made of 24 datasets collected in a standardized manner over nine sites within the framework of the international JECAM (Joint Experiment for Crop Assessment and Monitoring) initiative; the sites were spread over seven countries of the tropical belt, and the number of data collection years depended on the site (from 1 to 7 years between 2013 and 2020). These quality-controlled datasets are distinguished by in situ data collected at the field scale by local experts, with precise geographic coordinates, and following a common protocol. Altogether, the datasets completed 27 074 polygons (20 257 crops and 6817 noncrops, ranging from 748 plots in 2013 (one site visited) to 5515 in 2015 (six sites visited)) documented by detailed keywords. These datasets can be used to produce and validate agricultural land use maps in the tropics. They can also be used to assess the performances and robustness of classification methods of cropland and crop types/practices in a large range of tropical farming systems. This study focuses on identifying the potential lands for growing groundnut in Dien Chau district of Nghe An province (Vietnam), where groundnut is one of the major crops and brings high income for farmers. Based on the ecological requirements of groundnut, six criteria, including Soil Type, Soil Texture, Soil Depth, Slope, Average Temperature, and Average Total Rainfall in the planting season, were used. The Analytic Hierarchy Process method, commonly used in agricultural land use planning, was utilized to determine each criterion's weights via experts’ opinions. A pairwise comparison matrix was established to support this assessment process. The results revealed that Soil Texture showed the highest weight (0.31727) for groundnut farming, which was followed by Average Temperature (0.21131), Soil Type (0.17426), and Soil Depth (0.13982). Slope and Average Total Rainfall were the lowest weight factors, with 0.08122 and 0.07612, respectively. The weighted sum overlay analysis was implemented by ArcGIS software to generate the spatial distribution of land suitability of groundnut. The land suitability map indicated that 6830.07 ha (22.26%) of the studied area was highly suitable (S1), 10413.85 ha (33.95%) was moderately suitable (S2), 4336.76 ha (14.14%) was marginally suitable (S3), and 424.99 ha (1.39%) was not suitable (N). The total area of constrained area, including Waterbody and Built-up Land, was 8671.39 ha, accounting for 28.27% of the total area. Finally, the proposed land for groundnut cultivation was 12928.69 ha. The outcomes of this study may be regarded as a good reference for local government in agricultural land use planning.
