Clinical hypnosis is becoming increasingly recognized as a valuable clinical intervention for a wide range of psychological and medical problems. The current review paper seeks to determine the role of clinical hypnosis in learning difficulties, emotional or behavioral problems and physical disabilities. In addition, we co-examine the effectiveness of virtual/augmented reality hypnosis. Finally, we discuss the possible uses of clinical hypnosis within the educational settings. The results showed that hypnosis may hold the keys for new types of metacognitive strategies based on non-verbal pathways of effortless self-regulation.

Clinical hypnosis is an important therapeutic tool with an increasingly understood cognitive and neurobiological basis, and evidence for efficacy. Hypnosis involves controlled modulation of components of cognition—such as awareness, volition, perception and belief—by an external agent (the hypnotist) or by oneself (self-hypnosis) employing suggestion. In this article, we describe what hypnosis is, how it can be used in clinical settings, and how it is done.

Integrative models of health care have garnered increasing attention over the years and are currently being employed within acute and secondary health care services to support medical treatments in a range of specialities. Clinical hypnosis has a history of working in partnership with medical treatments quite apart from its psychiatric associations. It aims to mobilise the mind–body connection in order to identify and overcome obstacles to managing symptoms of ill health, resulting in overall improved emotional and physical well-being. This article aims to encourage the use of hypnotherapy in physical health care by highlighting the effectiveness of hypnosis as an adjunct to medical treatment and identifying barriers preventing further integrative treatments.

The research on the efficacy of hypnosis applications continues to grow, yet there is frequently a chasm between scientific knowledge and clinical practice. One challenge has been a lack of a unified standard for efficacy research in hypnosis. In 2018, six major hypnosis organizations collaborated to form a Task Force for Establishing Efficacy Standards for Clinical Hypnosis. The present paper reports the Guidelines for the Assessment of Efficacy of Clinical Hypnosis Applications created by the Task Force listing ten specific recommendations. These recommendations are intended to guide researchers who want to assess the accumulated evidence in existing research about the efficacy of applications of clinical hypnosis. The paper also discusses methodological issues in the interpretation and implementation of these guidelines. Future papers will report on the other products of the Hypnosis Efficacy Task Force, such as best practice recommendations for outcomes research in hypnosis, and an international survey of researchers and clinicians on current practices and views of hypnosis.

The use of modern clinical hypnosis in the treatment of stress is an effective way to relieve, overcome and resolve a stressful situation, as well as its consequences, especially in a pandemic. Hypnosis has a positive effect on the functioning of the central nervous system. Already at the initial admission, hypnosis at the initial admission removes anxiety and tension, and at subsequent admissions, it bypasses the patient’s possible resistance, providing a therapeutically oriented effect.
