This paper proposes a simple and robust variable modulation-decision-directed least mean square (VM-DDLMS) algorithm for reducing the complexity of conventional equalization algorithms and improving the stability of variable modulation (VM) systems. Compared to conventional adaptive equalization algorithms, known information was used as training sequences to reduce the bandwidth consumption caused by inserting training sequences; compared with conventional blind equalization algorithms, the parameters and decisions of the equalizer were determinate, which was conducive to a stable equalization performance. The simulation and implementation results show that the proposed algorithm has a better bit error rate (BER) performance than that of the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) and modified constant modulus algorithm (MCMA) while maintaining the same level of consumption of hardware resources. Compared to the conventional decision-directed least mean square (DDLMS) algorithm, the proposed algorithm only needs to make quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) symbol decisions, which reduces the computational complexity. In parallel 11th-order equalization algorithms, the operating frequency of VM-DDLMS can reach up to 333.33 MHz.

Over the last decade, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with antenna arrays have usually been employed for the enhancement of wireless communication in millimeter-wave bands. They are commonly used as aerial base stations and relay platforms in order to serve multiple users. Many beamforming methods for improving communication quality based on channel estimation have been proposed. However, these methods can be resource-intensive due to the complexity of channel estimation in practice. Thus, in this paper, we formulate an MIMO blind beamforming problem at the receivers for UAV-assisted communications in which channel estimation is omitted in order to save communication resources. We introduce one analytical method, which is called the analytical constant modulus algorithm (ACMA), in order to perform blind beamforming at the UAV base station; this relies only on data received by the antenna. The feature of the constant modulus (CM) is employed to restrict the target user signals. Algebraic operations, such as singular value decomposition (SVD), are applied to separate the user signal space from other interferences. The number of users in the region served by the UAV can be detected by exploring information in the measured data. We seek solutions that are expressible as one Kronecker product structure in the signal space; then, the beamformers that correspond to each user can be successfully estimated. The simulation results show that, by using this analytically derived blind method, the system can achieve good signal recovery accuracy, a reasonable system sum rate, and acceptable complexity.

In this paper, we investigate the joint design of a transmit beampattern and angular waveform (AW) for colocated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radars. The importance of the AW in the proposed signal processing strategy is first clarified, and then, two optimization models are established, which are aimed at either the power spectral density (PSD) design or the spectral compatibility and similarity design of the AW. There are two main differences between the proposed models and existing models. First, instead of matching a desired template or maximizing the transmit power on specific regions, the transmit beampattern in this paper is optimized to approach several key points, which guarantees the high transmit gain and the flexible adjustment of each beam gain. Second, instead of optimizing the performance of the transmit waveform, only the characteristics of the AW are examined, and they can be constrained quantitatively according to their relationship with the transmit gain. The two models can be unified into the same framework, and an efficient algorithm is proposed to solve the problem under a constant modulus constraint. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated, and some improvements to reduce the computational complexity are proposed. Numerical simulations showed that compared to the existing methods, the proposed approach can be used to obtain a higher transmit gain, flexibly adjust each beam gain, and more accurately control the PSD, spectral compatibility, and similarity of the AW. Moreover, numerical simulations showed that, compared to the use of existing methods, the proposed algorithm has higher computational efficiency.

The paper focuses on the design of over-sampled sequence to realize pulse coded frequency modulated(PCFM) waveform based wideband beampattern synthesis. It aims to solve the problem with space-frequency nulling having spectrally contained constant modulus waveforms. Specifically, it considers to minimize the OOB spectral power of the individual code sequences, hence, the individual waveforms during the design process.
