Today’s organizations rely on networks of dynamic systems of “agile” teams to get work done. Teams are distributed, transient, and loosely bounded in service of responsiveness and innovation. The key to this new way of doing work is managing the networked ecosystem in which teams are embedded. But in the context of leading multiple teams with fuzzy boundaries and shifting membership, the average overwhelmed manager quickly defaults to what is nearest in urgency: managing internal team dynamics and responding to internal customer demands. Drawn from field interviews with 100 top-performing team leaders, this article presents a framework-for-action to leaders who want to engage the networked ecosystem with intention and precision, including specific tactics for identifying and influencing high-leverage stakeholders.

Facility location selection is a vital decision for companies that affects both cost and delivery time over the years. However, determination of the facility location is a NP-hard problem. A hybrid algorithm that combines revised weighted fuzzy c-means with Nelder Mead (RWFCM-NM) performs well when compared with well-known algorithms for the facility location problem (FLP) with deterministic customer demands and positions. The motivation of the study is both analyzing performance of the RWFCM-NM algorithm with probabilistic customer demands and positions and proposing a new approach for this problem. This paper develops two new algorithms for FLP when customer demands and positions are probabilistic. The proposed algorithms are a probabilistic fuzzy c-means algorithm and Nelder-Mead (Probabilistic FCM-NM), a probabilistic revised weighted fuzzy c-means algorithm and Nelder Mead (Probabilistic RWFCM-NM) for the un-capacitated planar multi-facility location problem when customer positions and customer demands are probabilistic with predetermined service level. Proposed algorithms performances were tested with 13 data sets and comparisons were made with four well known algorithms. According to the experimental results, probabilistic RWFCM-NM algorithm demonstrates superiority on compared algorithms in terms of total transportation costs.

Colour is one of the major features that fascinate the customers and makes the foods more allurement. Due to changes of customer demands and countries’ legislations, usage of synthetic colorants is being decreased every day and food industry tends to use natural colorant. Algae have recently gained importance owing to a sustainable natural source of colorant. Algae can rapidly increase their biomass compared to plants thus they produce more pigments. This review covers the subjects about the functional properties and usage areas of natural colorants obtained from algae; phycocyanin, phycoerythrin, astaxanthin, canthaxanthin, β-carotene, lutein, fucoxanthin.

AbstractWe address a multi-period facility location problem with two customer segments having distinct service requirements. While customers in one segment receive preferred service, customers in the other segment accept delayed deliveries as long as lateness does not exceed a pre-specified threshold. The objective is to define a schedule for facility deployment and capacity scalability that satisfies all customer demands at minimum cost. Facilities can have their capacities adjusted over the planning horizon through incrementally increasing or reducing the number of modular units they hold. These two features, capacity expansion and capacity contraction, can help substantially improve the flexibility in responding to demand changes. Future customer demands are assumed to be unknown. We propose two different frameworks for planning capacity decisions and present a two-stage stochastic model for each one of them. While in the first model decisions related to capacity scalability are modeled as first-stage decisions, in the second model, capacity adjustments are deferred to the second stage. We develop the extensive forms of the associated stochastic programs for the case of demand uncertainty being captured by a finite set of scenarios. Additional inequalities are proposed to enhance the original formulations. An extensive computational study with randomly generated instances shows that the proposed enhancements are very useful. Specifically, 97.5% of the instances can be solved to optimality in much shorter computing times. Important insights are also provided into the impact of the two different frameworks for planning capacity adjustments on the facility network configuration and its total cost.

The challenge comes from increasingly fierce business competition and increasingly varied customer demands for products and services. Therefore, apart from capital and technology, banks also need the support of reliable human resources. The purpose of this study was to determine empirically whether there was any influence between psychological capital and workplace well-being on the work engagement of employees at the Bank. This study involved 134 respondents. The results obtained indicate that the empirical model obtained is in accordance with the theoretical model that was built. The variables of psychological capital and workplace wellbeing together influence work attachment to Bank employees. Keywords: Psychological Capital, Workplace Well-Being, Work Engagement.

Tape saw singulation is the process where a strip was mounted on the tape attached on the frame and then sawn into single units. Circular tape saw singulation only caters one panel of the two-paneled strip which was found to be consuming with the machine capacity and resources. Driven by continuously growing volumes of customer demands at the Philippines for the past two years, it was a challenge for the machine to maximize its capacity while minimizing the cost and resources. Opportunity was found on exploring the idea of dual work piece where two strip panels were catered by one circular tape frame. Dual work piece application would not only maximize the machine capability and capacity but also reduce the cost of resources consumed per strip loading. In this study, the authors have explored the workability of dual work piece cutting where two panels can be catered on one circular frame instead of the current one panel per circular frame. Dual Work Piece application was found to be effective to achieve the goal of maximizing the machine capacity while trimming down the expenses by 50% that was brought about by the resources demanded to process the strips at singulation. With the results of the study, it was recommended for the dual work piece cutting be applied and explored on growing semiconductor industry.

A central issue in project-based organizations (PBOs) is how to balance the need for flexibly responding to changing customer demands and creating consistent performance in the organization at large. This article discusses the relevance of a routine dynamics lens for understanding this dilemma. We show how routine dynamics might help to understand how and under what conditions routines—with their dual capacity for stability and change—produce a variety of performances, some stable and some varying, in the PBO. As such, we contribute to the stream of research that seeks to explain how PBOs build capabilities and how they work.

The industrial product-service system (iPSS) is a kind of system engineering methodology, integration scheme, and business model to realize service value by adding intangible services in the whole life cycle. However, the design of the system involves many difficulties such as uncertain customer demands, strong subjectivity of the experience design, and long debugging times. Methods for solving upper problems are therefore essential. This paper presents a design model that integrates an improved affinity propagation (AP) clustering algorithm, quality function development (QFD), and axiomatic design (AD). The entire process of designing an iPSS can be split into three steps. First, uncertain customer demands is determined and standardized. Second, the functions of the product-service system are investigated. Finally, the structures of the system are determined. This paper examines the example of the control service of an iPSS for a water heater tank capping press. An improved AP clustering algorithm is used to determine standardized customer demands, the proposed QFD, and an AD integration model to initially establish a mapping between the customer demands domain and the function domain and clarify the design focus. Next, a QFD- and AD-integrated model is constructed to establish a mapping between the function domain and the structure domain and optimize the control scheme through the quality of its risk prediction. Finally the paper verifies that the upper process and methods can guide the design process effectively in production applications.
