Nonlinear chaotic dynamics of the of the chaotic laser diodes with an additional optical injection  is computed within rate equations model, based on the a set of rate equations for the slave laser electric complex amplitude and carrier density. To calculate the system dynamics in a chaotic regime the known chaos theory and non-linear analysis methods such as a correlation integral algorithm, the Lyapunov’s exponents and  Kolmogorov entropy analysis are used. There are listed the data of computing dynamical and topological invariants such as the correlation, embedding and Kaplan-Yorke dimensions, Lyapunov’s exponents, Kolmogorov entropy etc. New data on topological and dynamical invariants are computed and firstly presented.

Abstract In this work, we utilize three parallel reservoir computers using semiconductor lasers with optical feedback and light injection to model radar probe signals with delays. Three radar probe signals are generated by driving lasers constructed by a three-element lase array with self-feedback. The response lasers are implemented also by a three-element lase array with both delay-time feedback and optical injection, which are utilized as nonlinear nodes to realize the reservoirs. We show that each delayed radar probe signal can well be predicted and to synchronize with its corresponding trained reservoir, even when there exist parameter mismatches between the response laser array and the driving laser array. Based on this, the three synchronous probe signals are utilized for ranging to three targets, respectively, using Hilbert transform. It is demonstrated that the relative errors for ranging can be very small and less than 0.6%. Our findings show that optical reservoir computing provides an effective way for applications of target ranging.

Abstract Abstract. The growing demand for communications and the emergence of new applications have put the capacity, transmission rate and latency of communications systems to a more severe test. In this context, 5G communication technology has emerged. 5G applications are divided into three typical application scenarios: eMBB, URLLC and mMTC. In order to support these applications, the key technologies of 5G need to be studied in depth. This paper firstly investigates the networking architecture of 5G bearer networks, and carries out a detailed analysis and comparison of 5G fronthaul technology, including the optical fibre direct connection solution, passive WDM solution, active WDM/OTN solution and WDM-PON solution. Secondly, this paper introduces 5G millimetre wave technology to achieve large capacity and high spectral efficiency transmission, including direct intensity modulation method, external modulation method, optical heterodyne method, optical injection locking method and optical phase-locked loop method. Finally, this paper provides an outlook on 5G fronthaul technology and millimetre wave technology.

AbstractWe review results on the optical injection of dual state InAs quantum dot-based semiconductor lasers. The two states in question are the so-called ground state and first excited state of the laser. This ability to lase from two different energy states is unique amongst semiconductor lasers and in combination with the high, intrinsic relaxation oscillation damping of the material and the novel, inherent cascade like carrier relaxation process, endows optically injected dual state quantum dot lasers with many unique dynamical properties. Particular attention is paid to fast state switching, antiphase excitability, novel information processing techniques and optothermally induced neuronal phenomena. We compare and contrast some of the physical properties of the system with other optically injected two state devices such as vertical cavity surface emitting lasers and ring lasers. Finally, we offer an outlook on the use of quantum dot material in photonic integrated circuits.

This article presents the experimental demonstration of synchronization of two integrated semiconductor distributed Bragg reflector lasers, fabricated with a generic multiproject wafer platform, by means of injection locking. Substantial linewidth reduction and frequency stabilization of the lasers were shown during locking of the lasers to an optical frequency comb. Phase noise was measured for different injected powers and different laser cavities. For a generation of millimeter-wave signals up to 80 GHz, two lasers were simultaneously locked to the comb. Fine-tuning was performed by tuning the repetition rate of the comb and coarse-tuning was carried out by switching to another comb line. A suppression ratio of 37 dB was achieved for unwanted comb lines. The achieved signal purity, phase noise, and suppression of unwanted components demonstrate the viability of injection locking for the generation of high-quality signals at sub-THz and THz frequencies and with substantial tunability.

AbstractWe review recent studies of cavity switching induced by the optical injection of free carriers in micropillar cavities containing quantum dots. Using the quantum dots as a broadband internal light source and a streak camera as detector, we track the resonance frequencies for a large set of modes with picosecond time resolution. We report a record-fast switch-on time constant (1.5 ps) and observe major transient modifications of the modal structure of the micropillar on the 10 ps time scale: mode crossings are induced by a focused symmetric injection of free carriers, while a lifting of several mode degeneracies is observed when off-axis injection breaks the rotational symmetry of the micropillar. We show theoretically and experimentally that cavity switching can be used to tailor the dynamic properties of the coupled QD–cavity system. We report the generation of ultrashort spontaneous emission pulses (as short as 6 ps duration) by a collection of frequency-selected QDs in a switched pillar microcavity. These pulses display a very small coherence length, attractive for ultrafast speckle-free imaging. Moreover, the control of QD-mode coupling on the 10 ps time scale establishes cavity switching as an appealing resource for quantum photonics.
