The energy hole is a severe problem for underwater acoustic distributed networks in that it affects the normal operations of the network and shortens the network’s life span. To deal with this problem, a loop-free routing control technique is proposed in this paper. The classical shortest-path routing control method is used to generate multiple disjointed routing tables. The residual energy of the nodes and the changing information of the uplink/downlink matrix are added to the data frames for distribution. The source node specifies the routing path to transmit the data frames based on the changing information, and the relay nodes route the data frames strictly according to the routing path designated by the source node. Besides, the energy consumption of the relay node is saved by replying to the pseudo-ACK frame. Simulation experiments are implemented in four typical scenarios, and the results reflect that the proposed technique could extend the network’s life span by approximately 10% when compared to other mature techniques. Besides, it has no other negative effects on the normal operations of the network.

In this work, a new control method for uncertain processes is developed based on two-degree-of-freedom control structure. The setpoint tracking controller designed by input/output linearization technique is used to regulate the disturbance-free output and the disturbance rejection controller designed is designed by high-gain technique. The advantage of two-degree-of-freedom control structure is that setpoint tracking and load disturbance rejection controllers can be designed separately. Open-loop observer is applied to provide disturbance-free response for setpoint tracking controller. The process/disturbance-free model mismatches are fed to the disturbance rejection controller for reducing effect of disturbance. To evaluate the control performance, the proposed control method is applied through the example of a continuous stirred tank reactor with unmeasured input disturbances and random noise kinetic parametric uncertainties. The simulation results show that both types of disturbances can be effectively compensated by the proposed control method.

Lithium battery has been employed widely in many industrial applications. Parameter mismatches between lithium batteries along a series string is the critical limits of the large-scale applications in high power situation. Maintaining equalization between batteries is the key technique in lithium batteries application. This paper summarizes normal equalization techniques and proposed a new type of lithium Battery Equalization and Management System (BEMS) employing the isolated DC-DC converter structure. The system is integrated both equalization functions and management functions by using distributed 3-level controlled structure and digital control technique. With this control method the flexibility of the balance control strategy and the compatibility for different battery strings are both improved dramatically. The experimental results show optimizing equalization, efficiency and the battery string life span has been extended.

<abstract><p>This paper investigates the problem of adaptive distributed consensus control for stochastic multi-agent systems (MASs) with full state constraints. By utilizing adaptive backstepping control technique and barrier Lyapunov function (BLF), an adaptive distributed consensus constraint control method is proposed. The developed control method can ensure that all signals of the controlled system are semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded (SGUUB) in probability, and outputs of the follower agents keep consensus with the output of leader. In addition, system states are not transgressed their constrained sets. Finally, simulation results are provided to illustrate the feasibility of the developed control algorithm and theorem.</p></abstract>

Abstract In this paper, dynamic response improvement of the grid connected hybrid system comprising of the wind power generation system (WPGS) and the photovoltaic (PV) are investigated under some critical circumstances. In order to maximize the output of solar arrays, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is presented. In this paper, an intelligent control technique using the artificial neural network (ANN) and the genetic algorithm (GA) are proposed to control the MPPT for a PV system under varying irradiation and temperature conditions. The ANN-GA control method is compared with the perturb and observe (P&O), the incremental conductance (IC) and the fuzzy logic methods. In other words, the data is optimized by GA and then, these optimum values are used in ANN. The results are indicated the ANN-GA is better and more reliable method in comparison with the conventional algorithms. The allocation of a pitch angle strategy based on the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and comparison with conventional PI controller in high rated wind speed areas are carried out. Moreover, the pitch angle based on FLC with the wind speed and active power as the inputs can have faster response that lead to smoother power curves, improving the dynamic performance of the wind turbine and prevent the mechanical fatigues of the generator

Pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) are an interesting type of actuators as they provide high power-to-weight and power-to-volume ratio. However, their efficient use requires very accurate control methods taking into account their complex and nonlinear dynamics. This paper considers a two degrees-of-freedom platform whose attitude is determined by three pneumatic muscles controlled by servovalves. An overactuation is present as three muscles are controlled for only two degrees-of-freedom. The contribution of this work is twofold. First, whereas most of the literature approaches the control of systems of similar nature with sliding mode control, we show that the platform can be controlled with the flatness-based approach. This method is a nonlinear open-loop controller. In addition, this approach is model-based, and it can be applied thanks to the accurate models of the muscles, the platform and the servovalves, experimentally developed. In addition to the flatness-based controller, which is mainly a feedforward control, a proportional-integral (PI) controller is added in order to overcome the modeling errors and to improve the control robustness. Second, we solve the overactuation of the platform by an adequate choice for the range of the efforts applied by the muscles. In this paper, we recall the basics of this control technique and then show how it is applied to the proposed experimental platform. At the end of the paper, the proposed approach is compared to the most commonly used control method, and its effectiveness is shown by means of experimental results.

Abstract This paper presents a numerical study in which active and hybrid vibration confinement is compared with a conventional active vibration control method. Vibration confinement is a vibration control technique that is based on reshaping structural modes to produce “quiet areas” in a structure as opposed to adding damping as in conventional active or passive methods. In this paper, active and hybrid confinement is achieved in a flexible beam with two pairs of piezoelectric actuators and sensors and with two vibration absorbers. For comparison purposes, active damping is achieved also with two pairs of piezoelectric actuators and sensors using direct velocity feedback. The results show that both approaches are effective in controlling vibrations in the targeted area of the beam, with direct velocity feedback being slightly more cost effective in terms of required power. When combined with passive confinement, however, each method is improved with a significant reduction in required power.

This paper presents a robust control technique for three-phase chargers under unbalanced grid conditions. The control method consists of inner-loop robust grid-current control and outer-loop proportional integral control for constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) control. A dual-current control for the inner-loop positive and negative sequence is employed to eliminate the unbalanced current caused by the grid so that a constant current and voltage can be provided to the batteries. The inner-loop robust controllers utilize state feedback with integral action in the dq-synchronous frame. A linear matrix inequality-based optimization scheme is used to determine stabilizing gains of the controllers to maximize the convergence rate to steady state in the presence of uncertainties. The uncertainties of the system are described as the potential variation range of the inductance and resistance in the L-filter.

In this paper, a power control method is proposed for a buffer-aided relay node (RN) to enhance the energy efficiency of the RN system. By virtue of a buffer, the RN can reserve the data at the buffer when the the channel gain between an RN and a destination node (DN) is weaker than that between SN and RN. The RN then opportunistically forward the reserved data in the buffer according to channel condition between the RN and the DN. By exploiting the buffer, RN reduces transmit power when it reduces the transmit data rate and reserve the data in the buffer. Therefore, without any total throughput reduction, the power consumption of RN can be reduced, resulting in the energy efficiency (EE) improvement of the RN system. Furthermore, for the power control, we devise a simple power control method based on a two-dimensional surface fitting model of an optimal transmit power of RN. The proposed RN power control method is readily and locally implementable at the RN, and it can significantly improve EE of the RN compared to the fixed power control method and the spectral efficiency based method as verified by the rigorous numerical results.
