Lassa fever is a recurrent endemic disease in Nigeria with increasing seroprevalence in many parts of the country. In the absence of effective preventive vaccines, the mass media are being deployed as independent and complementary interventions to sensitise the public on appropriate measures for mitigating the spread of the disease. This study evaluates the different coverage patterns and frames that dominate newspaper narratives on Lassa fever epidemic in Nigeria. Multistage sampling technique was used to select 420 editions of six leading Nigerian newspapers published between January 2015 and December 2019. Findings showed that although the epidemic was frequently mentioned in newspaper articles, its coverage was mainly episodic with little media prominence, and its framing was too inadequate to compel the desired public health response. Hence, the study recommends that journalists and newspaper editors must dutifully engage in the publication of Lassa fever outbreak preparedness articles to significantly curb the spread of the disease in Nigeria.

Babesiosis is an emerging tick-borne disease caused by intraerythrocytic protozoa that are primarily transmitted by hard-bodied (Ixodid) ticks and rarely through blood transfusion, perinatally, and organ transplantation. More than 100 Babesia species infect a wide spectrum of wild and domestic animals worldwide and six have been identified as human pathogens. Babesia microti is the predominant species that infects humans, is found throughout the world, and causes endemic disease in the United States and China. Babesia venatorum and Babesia crassa-like agent also cause endemic disease in China. Babesia divergens is the predominant species in Europe where fulminant cases have been reported sporadically. The number of B. microti infections has been increasing globally in recent decades. In the United States, more than 2000 cases are reported each year, although the actual number is thought to be much higher. In this review of the epidemiology of human babesiosis, we discuss epidemiologic tools used to monitor disease location and frequency; demographics and modes of transmission; the location of human babesiosis; the causative Babesia species in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia; the primary clinical characteristics associated with each of these infections; and the increasing global health burden of this disease.

Kata Kunci: Diare, Madu, Nutrisi ABSTRACTDiarrhea in Indonesia is an endemic disease and is also a potential disease of Extraordinary Events (KLB) which is often accompanied by death. The incidence of diarrhea in Lampung Province, especially in East Lampung is 21,588 cases. Honey as a traditional medicine with millions of benefits has been known since ancient times, even the Koran explains the benefits of bees and their products as a cure for various diseases. Including one of them diarrhea. Honey is a non-allergic agent, a natural nutrient that is high in antioxidant value, anti-inflammatory, and has antibacterial activity. The aim of the study was to gain more experience and competence in the provision of comprehensive nursing care for honey to reduce chapter frequency. The interventions were carried out by giving 1 tablespoon honey dissolved into 100 cc of water for 5 days drink routinely 3 times a day. There is a decrease in the frequency of chapters after giving honey to children with diarrhea. Thus giving honey to children with diarrhea to reduce the frequency of chapters is very effective.  Keywords: diarrhea, honey, nutrient

Background: Echinococcosis is an endemic disease in the Neotropical region of the Americas caused by Echinococcus spp. Most of the cases come from the Amazon region, where a disease is popularly called “paca disease”, due to the population's habit of eating the meat of Cuniculus paca. Case Report: We report 72-year-old Indigenous male presents cirrhosis complications caused by echinococcosis since 2010 confirmed by serological examination (titer 1:2560) and inactive cysts in imaging methods. Conclusion: Inactive cysts in echinococcosis are a source of complications such as liver cirrhosis and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.

Recent developments in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic point to its inevitable transformation into an endemic disease, urging both diagnostics of emerging variants of concern (VOCs) and design of the variant-specific drugs in addition to vaccine adjustments. Exploring the structure and dynamics of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein, we argue that the high mutability characteristic of RNA viruses coupled with the remarkable flexibility and dynamics of viral proteins result in a substantial involvement of allosteric mechanisms. While allosteric effects of mutations should be considered in predictions and diagnostics of new VOCs, allosteric drugs advantageously avoid escaping mutations via non-competitive inhibition originating from many alternative distal locations. The exhaustive allosteric signalling and probing maps provide a comprehensive picture of allostery in the Spike protein, making it possible to locate sites of potential mutations that could work as new VOCs 'drivers', and to determine binding patches that may be targeted by newly developed allosteric drugs.

Abstract The Covid-19 pandemic has been overwhelming in many ways, but what are the structural conditions that can explain the dramatic impact of the global pandemic? How can we shift the horizon of the possible and contribute to another politics of life, one that is based on strong institutions and a vision of social justice? This article examines the role of preparedness, authoritarianism and the regulatory state. It suggests that it is important to move beyond the binary of epidemic and endemic disease and rethink the kinds of crisis publics, forms of political action and medical-historical consciousness that this distinction with its emphasis on dramatic disjunctures enables.
