Teeth restoration in respect with anatomy and function with direct composite restoration does not lose its relevance for many years. The driving factor for the widespread use of direct restorations is satisfactory aesthetic results, simplicity and high speed of their implementation, and relatively low cost. Moreover, dental restorations in direct technique are constantly being improved due to the unprecedented growth of technologies in the production of dental materials and equipment, which are now living their golden age. This article presents a clinical case of replacing old incompetent fillings with impaired marginal fit of the posterior teeth with highly aesthetic and functional composite restorations.

A 20-year-old right-handed fisherman experienced a severe injury in a high-energy traffic accident. These injuries included a shaft fracture of the right humerus, open comminuted fracture of the right forearm and multiple peripheral nerve palsies involving the musculocutaneous, median and radial nerves. Six months after the initial treatment, the patient was referred to our hand surgeons for further treatment. Several operations for functional reconstruction using only the ulnar nerve and ulnar nerve-innervated muscles were performed: the main procedures included a partial ulnar nerve transfer for elbow flexion, flexor carpi ulnaris transfer for reconstruction of wrist and finger extension and opponensplasty using the abductor digiti minimi. Three years after the initial injury, the patient had relatively good function including elbow flexion and stable side pinch and grasp. Functional reconstruction using a combination of the ulnar nerve and ulnar nerve-innervated muscles may be useful in specific cases involving multiple peripheral nerve injuries.

Maxillofacial prosthesis (MFP) can be defined as the art and science of esthetic and functional reconstruction of the Maxillofacial bones, art because it uses customized and specific rules for each individual, science because of its application on patient’s personality and its relation in medicine. An electronic search was conducted in the Cochrane, PubMed (MEDLINE), and ScienceDirect databases between March 2000 and July 2020. A manual search was also performed to cover all possible aspects of the maxillofacial prosthesis and the related topics that were chosen. Treatment planning with the latest techniques such as using latest imaging technique and 3D planning can guarantee a future with repeatable high-quality maxillofacial prosthetics.

Pain, scar contracture and soft tissue defects are common late sequel of acne inversa and Fournier’s gangrene. Aesthetical as well as functional reconstruction of the external vulva and labia majora can be very challenging. We present two cases where a pedicled Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) flap for vulva reconstruction was implemented. In order to reconstruct both labia majora, we partially split the flap and raised a bilaterally pedicled DIEP flap. Many local flap techniques have been published on vulvar reconstruction. The aim of this paper is a discussion of the present literature and a review of current strategies for soft tissue restoration with the DIEP flap for vulva reconstruction. Wepresent and discuss two cases which were successfully reconstructed using the described surgical technique
