Abstract Rock breaking technology based on dry ice and energy-gathered agent has been developed and successfully applied in trench excavation for construction of oil pipeline. The vibration velocity waveform induced by this technology was monitored in site test to determine the attenuation law of vibration velocity with hypocentral distance. The results show that this rock breaking technology is effective method of trench excavation. It does not excessively damage the adjacent rock mass, ensuring the integrity of ditch walls. The vibration velocity induced by this technology is decay with the increase of hypocentral distance. At the hypocentral distance of 10m, the vibration velocity reduces to less than 20mm/s, which meets the requirements of the safety standard of blasting vibration in general buildings engineering. The results of this experiment have an important guiding effect on the field engineering practice and application of rock breaking technology based on dry ice and energy-gathered agent.

Abstract In the operation of direct air-cooled units, there are many factors that affect the safety and economy of the unit. The “hot air recirculation” and “backfill” phenomena caused by lateral wind, the influence of high ambient wind on the heat transfer performance of the air cooling unit near the windshield wall, and the “hot air recirculation” phenomenon caused by the back wind of the furnace, these may affect the direct air cooling unit. Safe and economical operation. Through carrying out on-site test research, collecting the actual operating conditions of the unit operation, the organic combination of laboratory simulation data and actual data is provided to provide a strong basis for the development of corresponding technologies.

Crop management including the efficient use of nitrogen (N) fertilizer is important to ensure crop productivity. Human error in judging the leaf greenness when using the leaf color chart (LCC) to estimate the rice plant N nutrient status has encouraged numerous researchers to implement a machine-learning algorithm but experienced some issues in calibration and lighting. The datasets are created at 6.00-7.00AM (consistent lighting) and including light intensity, so each dataset contains RGB value and light intensity as inputs, and LCC value as a target. A system consists of a smartphone with an application that prevents user from taking an image if the light intensity is not in 2000-3500 lux, and a computer for preprocessing and classification purposes were developed. The preprocessing included cropping, splitting the rice leaf images, and calculating the average RGB values. A k-NN classifier is implemented and by using a cross-validation method is found k=5 gives the best accuracy of 97,22%. The in-site test of the system also works with an accuracy of 96.40%.

This chapter describes a case study of the poor access to healthcare in the developing the countries with more focus on the rural areas and presents an adapted remote care delivery system approach for improving and increasing the access to healthcare services by overcoming certain cultural, social, financial, and linguistic barriers. The remote care delivery system integrates traditional practitioners because most people are more confident with the traditional medicine. The chapter presents the results of a practical on-site test of the proposed system. The test has shown the potentiality of the proposed system to improve the quality and effectiveness of healthcare and increase the accessibility of healthcare systems. The chapter also discusses the obstacles for applying standard telemedicine systems and e-health solutions in the developing world.

Large-scale synchronous condenser can provide a powerful dynamic reactive power for the Ultra high-voltage (UHV) Direct Current (DC) transmission system. The dynamic characteristics of synchronous condenser ensure the reactive power support capability in the case of grid fault. In this paper, the control strategy and deployment of the synchronous condensers in East China Power Grid are presented. Taking converter station as an example, this paper introduces the main architecture of automatic voltage control (AVC) system, and the relationship between host computers and slave computers. In the substation, it describes the mechanism of several control modes, and designs the on-site test scheme of the control modes. After on-site testing, the correct operation of the large-scale synchronous condensers can be guaranteed.
