Background: Leishmaniasis is caused by protozoans that depend on female phlebotomine sandflies as vectors. The natural habitat of these sandflies is changing due to climate change. More patients will get immunocompromised due to cancer therapy. Case report: We report the case of a 72-year-old patient with melanoma in whom we found visceral leishmaniasis mimicking hepatic metastasis in routine FDG-PET/CT. The patient was hospitalized due to fever and pancytopenia in the general hospital Steyr. The diagnosis was made by biopsy of the iliac crest with cytological study and polymerase chain reaction. After treatment with amphotericin B, the patient recovered, and tests became negative, including FDG-PET/CT. Because of climate change and the increasing use of immunomodulatory medication, our awareness of such findings should grow. Conclusion: New pitfalls in diagnosis and surveillance of cancer patients because of altered environmental conditions and immunocompromised patients have to be considered.

Introduction. Bladder cancer (ВС) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the urinary tract. In recent decades, recurrent BC in the urethra has become increasingly common. Given the rarity of this pathology, it is of clinical interest for oncologists and urologists. Materials and methods. A clinical case of recurrent bladder cancer in the urethra in a 63-year-old patient is presented. The results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the pelvic organs and external genital organs, as well as the results of computed tomography of the abdominal organs and observation by a hematologist are presented. Results. For early diagnosis of tumor changes in the urethra in patients with risk factors for the recurrence of BC after cystectomy, careful observation in the form of a cytological study of flushing water from it, performing urethroscopy with ascending urethrography and MRI of the external genital organs is advisable. Conclusions. This clinical observation demonstrates the importance of assessing the state of the urethra when follow up patients after radical cystectomy for BC.

The OBJECTIVE was to perform a comparative cytological analysis of the wound exudate in healing wounds during autodermoplasty on a granulating burn wound with and without vacuum therapy.METHODS AND MATERIALS. The article presents the results of the cytological study substantiated the use of vacuum therapy in combustiology. The comparative analysis was performed in 2 groups of patients. The first group consisted of patients with granulating burn wounds, who underwent surgical treatment with vacuum therapy. The second group consisted of patients who underwent surgical treatment without vacuum therapy. In both groups, the complex of surgical treatment included autodermoplasty on a granulating burn wound. All the patients were treated in the Burn Department of the «Scientific research institute – Ochapovsky regional clinic hospital № 1».RESULTS. The application of vacuum-associated dressings in the surgical treatment of patients in burn hospitals helps to reduce the time of graft retention in the plasty of granulating burn wound, decrease the number of dressings and the amount of dressing material, reduce the time of treatment of patients.CONCLUSION. The obtained cytological results allow us to justify the application of vacuum therapy in the surgical treatment of granulating burn wounds.

The purpose of this work was to show the effectiveness of the cytological method on a small number of observations, excluding all possible errors of the preanalytical stage. The paper presents several simple and easily reproducible algorithms for the cytological study of serous pleural effusions with small cellular content. On the example of 20 observations of the study of the cellular composition of serous exudates, a direct dependence of the research results on the preanalytical stage is shown. A complete study of effusion fluids in compliance with all stages of preanalytics and the use of modern methods of cytological diagnostics makes it possible to nullify the options for false-negative.
