In recent time workplace organization and easy information retrieval help in achieving optimum productivity through maximum utilization of the resources available, significantly reducing industrial lead-time and waste thus resulting in low production cost and increase return-on-investment (ROI). This paper is a study of the effective and efficient implementation of 5S processes in a beef abattoir. Thus, the paper employs both qualitative (case study) and quantitative (statistical analysis like 5S scorecard and 5S audit performance) methods. This research identifies and outlines 5S “best practice” issues overlooked such as unneeded items lying around, torn sign displays, labels and shelves not partitioned, bins not clearly stored in demarcated areas and storage tools not clearly shown with sign panels and labels. Furthermore, budget constraints and the abattoir unreadiness to adopt the 5S system inhibits the smooth implementation of the 5S phases required. Therefore, this research managed to map out a 5S lean-system implementation framework for the case company X beef abattoirs. Finally, the research recommended effective process on how 5S can efficiently save the industry on planning to reduce waste in processes such as lead-time in effective information retrieval system, safety issues to mitigate non-value adding activities and space utilization, for improved productivity.

AbstractThe basic cognitive skill of numeracy is a recognized form of human capital, associated with economic and social well being for individuals and for nations. In this study, we explore how occupational complexity relates to proficiency in numeracy, among adults in full-time employment. We operationalize occupational complexity by constructing three measures of task complexity: complexity with data, complexity with people and complexity with things. Data from the international OECD survey of adult skills, 2012, is employed to investigate both the distribution of these three dimensions of occupational task complexity and how these relate to numeracy in 13 countries. The analysis indicates that data occupational complexity predicts numeracy scores, when controlling for age, gender and educational level. The findings open for a hypothesis that occupational activities may enhance basic skills in adult populations. If elaborated and supported through further studies this finding has practical implications for workplace organization and contributes to theoretical understandings of the development of basic skills in adults.

Today, in the Russian open spaces, intellectual production and related technologies do not have a large volume, but this area is actively developing and has a tendency to expand. We can safely say that with the addition of advanced technologies for processing, assembly and management of production and business processes, you will get a long-awaited synergistic effect. This area has very good prospects in various industries, in particular-in shipbuilding. During the period of development of our country's economy, aimed at import substitution and import conservation, more than ever, the emphasis is on domestic developments and the independence of our production and intellectual technologies from sanctions and other economic and political factors. The quality of structures and products in the shipbuilding industry is of current importance in connection with the implementation of innovative orders by enterprises of the industry, the main ones among which are defense ones. Abstract The article examines how the aspects of the social world are enacted in a theater play. The data come from a videotaped performance of a professional theater, portraying a story about a workplace organization going through a personnel training program. The aim of the study is to show how the core theme of the play – the teaming up of the personnel – is constructed in the live performance through a range of interactional means. By focusing on four core episodes of the play, the study on the one hand points out to the multiple changes taking place both within and between the different episodes of the play. On the other hand, the episodes of collective action involving the semiotic resources of singing and dancing are shown to represent the ideals of teamwork in distinct ways. The study contributes to the understanding of socially and politically oriented theater as a distinct, pre-rehearsed social setting and the means and practices that it deploys when enacting the aspects of the contemporary societal issues.

Emblematic of major cultural and economic shifts towards ‘new work,’ indie game development has positioned itself at the forefront of market innovation by subverting traditional, hierarchical models of workplace organization. At the centre of these major shifts is the figure of the ‘cultural intermediary’ – a nebulous, ill-defined role which we, nonetheless, contend is integral to understanding cultural industries. By focusing on the mercurial forms of labour performed by founders and directors of indie co-working spaces, this chapter aims to give shape and dimension to the role of cultural intermediaries, arguing that their networked mobility and delamination from traditional ‘sites’ of work necessitates a rethinking of studio-based study as the standard for examining indie cultural production.

Abstract: Sexual Harassment – not an Isolated Problem Is sexual harassment in academia an isolated problem, or is it linked to the academic work environment and culture? Research at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at University of Oslo supports the latter view. The results show how sexual harassment are associated with problem features of the workplace organization, environment and culture. This is especially clear in the case of unwanted sexual attention, which is closely linked to professional devaluation and other problems. Other more serious forms (unwanted physical contact, coercion, stalking, assault) are less frequent, yet clearly associated with unwanted sexual attention. The chapter presents and analyzes the sexual harassment data in view of other recent research, and discusses why this topic is important, and how research can be improved.

One of the important factors in the development of agricultural enterprises, increasing their competitiveness and profitability, is innovation. In addition, it is clear that low innovation activity has caused a protracted economic crisis in Ukraine. The term "innovation" should be understood as the implementation of a new or significantly improved product, process, new method of marketing or a new method of organization in business, workplace organization or external contacts, new equipment or technology, and so on. That is, the defining basis of any innovation is innovation in a particular area of he enterprise. The development of an economy based on knowledge and innovation depends on the region of Ukraine in which enterprises operate and compete at different levels, including on a global scale. The inclusion of innovation in the group of the most important sources of enterprise competitiveness increases interest in research on the level of innovation in the regions, the differences between them, and the like. A significant number and variety of factors influencing innovative development exclude the use of one universal indicator. It is necessary to use a set of indicators reflecting various dimensions of the innovation activity of the economy. That is why we have calculated a synthetic index of innovative development in the context of regions of Ukraine, using the method of taxonomic analysis. According to the data presented, regions with stronger and weaker positions for innovative development can be identified. So, the highest level of this indicator for the period 2016–2019. Recorded in Kharkiv (0.340), Volyn (0.289) and Lugansk (0.287) regions. However, it should be noted that the level of these indicators is very low, since according to taxonomic analysis, the higher the level of development, the closer the indicator value is to 1. Among the regions with a low indicator of innovative development, one can single out the Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye and Lviv regions.
