Abstract Declines in undergraduate enrollments in English literature are well documented, and departments need to develop a coherent set of productive, practical responses to enrollment pressures. Drawing on studies of undergraduate research in STEM disciplines, this article explores how undergraduate research experiences in English literature can be envisioned not as unique, one-on-one experiences for motivated and interested students but as a curricular intervention that spans the undergraduate academic experience, fosters scholarly identity, and promotes inclusivity in scholarly training. Rather than functioning “by arrangement,” undergraduate research in English should be a coordinated enterprise that is established as an expectation for incoming students and a feature of every level of the major.

Background: Understanding students’ naive conceptions about how science works and the norms that guide scientific best practice is important so that teachers can adapt their teaching to students’ existing understandings. Objective: To describe what incoming undergraduate students of psychology believe about reproducibility and open science practices in psychology. Method: International online survey with participants who were about to start their first course in psychology at a university (N = 239). Results: When asked about how research should be done, most students endorsed most (but not all) of ten open science practices. When asked to estimate the proportion of published psychological studies that apply each of a set of 10 open science practices, participants’ estimates tended to average near 50%. Only 18% of participants had heard of the term “replication crisis.” Conclusion: Despite relatively significant media attention on the replication crisis, few incoming psychology students are familiar with the term. Incoming students nevertheless appear to be sympathetic toward most open science practices, although they may overestimate the prevalence of these practices in psychology. Teaching Implications: Teaching materials aimed at incoming psychology students should not assume pre-existing knowledge about open science or replicability.

Abstract

One of the main problems of Bumigora University is the ratio between incoming students and students graduating on time is not balanced, so that it will result in a decrease in accreditation assessment in the future. One of the assessment indicators in the accreditation process is the student graduation ratio. Student graduation data stored in the campus database, but has not been maximally utilized. By utilizing graduation data, students can find out patterns or patterns of students who graduate on time or not, so as to minimize the occurrence of students who drop out. Not only that, decision makers can make it easier to make policies early to help students who have the potential to drop out and not graduate on time. The solution offered in this research is to use data mining techniques. One of the data mining methods used in this study is the SVM method. The purpose of this study is to improve the performance of the SVM method for the classification of Bumigora University graduation students using the KNN Imputation and K-Means-Smote methods. This research consists of several stages, namely the collection of student graduation data, pre-processing such as handling missing values using KNNI method, handling class imbalances using K-Means-Smote, classification the SVM method. The last stage is testing SVM performance based on accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and f-measure. Based on the results of test that have been carried out, the integration of the KNNI, K-Means-Smote, and SVM method get an accuracy of 83.9%, sensitivity 81.3%, specificity 86.6%, and f-measure 83.5%. The use of KNNI and K-Means-Smote method can improve the performance of the SVM method based on accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and f-measure.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics in Mexico (INEGI, 2010) about 800,000 people over 5 years of age are Mayan speakers in Yucatán, where 538,355 are reported. According to Pineda, cited by Krotz (2008), Valladolid is one of the municipalities in the state with the largest number of Mayan speakers. Since the 2004 curriculum, the Intercultural Bilingual Primary Education Bachelor's Degree (LEPIB in Spanish), serves this population since our students carry out their teaching practices and provide their professional services with children from the municipality, approximately 50% of whom are Mayan speakers in their entirety. Since 2005, the "Juan de Dios Rodríguez Heredia" Higher Normal School has been responsible for teaching the LEPIB, being this school the only one in the state with this degree. Due to the characteristics of the incoming students, most of whom do not speak the Mayan language, several actions have been implemented for the teaching of this language in correspondence with the graduate profile of the 2012 curriculum. The reform of the 2012 curriculum includes bilingual intercultural teaching competencies, which emphasizes the acquisition of linguistic skills of the native language, in this case, the Mayan language.

Introduction: The health diagnosis performed by the POSALUD service, in the EMA to incoming students, allows the development of protocols for care and prevention of diseases and habits that may jeopardize the health of students and thus their academic performance. Objective: To analyze the state of health with which first-year students enter FES-I. Methodology: Based on Supo's taxonomy, this is an observational, cross-sectional, analytical and prospective study. Dietary habits, oral hygiene, consumption of harmful substances, recreational activities, sleep quality and contraceptive use were analyzed by frequency according to gender. Results: Women reported a significantly higher prevalence (p<0.050) in the consumption of food prepared at home, oral hygiene, alcohol consumption and smoking. They also reported a low frequency of physical and cultural activities. The majority of the students reported a good quality of physiological sleep, finally the students with sexual life, the majority reported using a contraceptive method almost always,in the latter there was no statistical significance. Conclusion: The studies provide a diagnosis that allows the university health programs to provide integral attention to the students, promoting prevention as the main working tool in the PROSALUD service.
