Nanocatalysts, as a part of nanotechnology, have been seen very useful for various fileds of applications capturing a large contribution of the world market. Indeed, several unsolved issues of catalysts have been reconsidered by employing the new nanocatalysts including single core metal atoms and ions with surrounding holes. Moreover, it was expected that the future of catalytic reactions, especially those organic ones, will deal with the nanocatalyst applications. To this aim, the features of catalytic nanoparticles and magnetic nanocatalysts regarding evaluation of their advantages and applications in organic reactions were investigated in this work. Developments of catalytic nanoparticles and magnetic nanocatalysts were discussed in this work regarding the novel applications of such materials at the nanoscale for approaching advantageous features. Increased availability, activity, and stability are very important for applications of the catalysts in various organic reactions. Therefore, it is a must to discuss features of such nanocatalytic systems to provide more information about their advantages and even disadvantages of their applications.

Abstract Nanoelectrode ensembles (NEEs), prepared by Au template synthesis, are presented as a proof-of-concept sample platform to study individual electrodeposited materials by scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM). With this platform, the non-conductive membrane support does not contribute to the electrocatalytic activity recorded at each electrode. Use of low-density template membranes results in electrodes that are isolated because initial membrane pores are typically separated by significant (microscale) distances. Electrodeposition of catalytic nanoparticles onto the electrodes of the array and observation of electrocatalytic activity are demonstrated to be suitable for correlative SECCM voltammetric mapping and electron microscopy. Suitability of NEEs for studies of surface Au oxidation, hydrazine oxidation, and hydrogen evolution (hydrogen evolution reaction, HER), and at Pt particles on NEEs (Pt-NEEs) for HER is demonstrated.

This work presents a solid-state ionic-based device to selectively detect C2H4 in car exhaust gases. The sensor consists of 8YSZ as the electrolyte and two electrodes: Fe0.7Cr1.3O3/8YSZ and LSM/8YSZ. The main aim of this work is to optimize the catalytic behavior of the working electrode to C2H4 and reduce cross-sensitivity toward CO and H2O. Several catalyst nanoparticles were infiltrated to tailor C2H4 adsorption and electrochemical oxidation properties while diminishing adsorption and conversion of other gas components such as CO. The infiltrated metal catalysts were selected, taking into account both adsorption and redox properties. Infiltration of Ti or Al, followed by a second infiltration of Ni, enabled the selective detection of C2H4 with low cross-sensitivity toward CO and H2O in a moist gas environment. Further insight into potentiometric C2H4 sensing is achieved by electrochemical impedance analysis of the electrodes activated with bifunctional catalysts.
