Abstract: Operating system offers a service known as memory management which manages and guides primary memory. It moves processes between disk and main memory during the execution back and forth. The process in which we provisionally moves process from primary memory to the hard disk so the memory is available for other processes. This process is known as swapping. Page replacement techniques are the methods by which the operating system concludes which memory pages to be swapped out and write to disk, whenever a page of main memory is required to be allocated. There are different policies regarding how to select a page to be swapped out when a page fault occurs to create space for new page. These Policies are called page replacement algorithms. In this paper the strategy for identifying the refresh rate for ‘Aging’ page replacement algorithm is presented and evaluated. Keywords: Aging algorithm, page replacement algorithm, refresh rate, virtual memory management.

Today, research trends clearly confirm the fact that machine learning technologies open up new opportunities in various computing environments, such as Internet of Things, mobile, and enterprise. Unfortunately, the prior efforts rarely focused on designing system-level input/output stacks (e.g., page cache, file system, block input/output, and storage devices). In this paper, we propose a new page replacement algorithm, called ML-CLOCK, that embeds single-layer perceptron neural network algorithms to enable an intelligent eviction policy. In addition, ML-CLOCK employs preference rules that consider the features of the underlying storage media (e.g., asymmetric read and write costs and efficient write patterns). For evaluation, we implemented a prototype of ML-CLOCK based on trace-driven simulation and compared it with the traditional four replacement algorithms and one flash-friendly algorithm. Our experimental results on the trace-driven environments clearly confirm that ML-CLOCK can improve the hit ratio by up to 72% and reduces the elapsed time by up to 2.16x compared with least frequently used replacement algorithms.

This article proposes a domain name caching method for the multicore network-traffic capture system, which significantly improves insert latency, throughput and hit rate. The caching method is composed of caching replacement algorithm, cache set method. The method is easy to implement, low in deployment cost, and suitable for various multicore caching systems. Moreover, it can reduce the use of locks by changing data structures and algorithms. Experimental results show that compared with other caching system, our proposed method reaches the highest throughput under multiple cores, which indicates that the cache method we proposed is best suited for domain name caching.

Preservation of Indonesian culture is an important thing that must be considered. One of the efforts that have been made in preserving culture is technological development implementation. In cultural preservation, based on data obtained from 45 respondents from the Bima community in Indonesia, 34.9% of the community does not understand the Bima script. It means that only 65.1% of the community can understand Bima script. This condition will continue to grow if there is no effort made to preserve the Bima script. Because people should have a comprehensive knowledge of the Bima script to understand its usage in writing and reading activities, people tend to have less desire to learn the Bima script. Mataram University is trying to develop creative and innovative learning products to learn the Bima script learning model in an interactive application using a smartphone to translate Latin letters into the script. This development aims to facilitate the process of learning Bima characters for the community. The method that has been used is to apply a string replacement algorithm based on the Bima script rules in the reference book containing the ancient Bima script. According to the experiment result, the alpha test value from 31 respondents is 99.36%, and the Beta test value from 45 respondents Bima society is 91.50%. It can be concluded that this application is feasible as a learning medium.
