The refresh rate is one of the important parameters of visual presentation devices, and assessing the effect of the refresh rate of a device on motion perception has always been an important direction in the field of visual research. This study examined the effect of the refresh rate of a device on the motion perception response at different stimulation frequencies and provided an objective visual electrophysiological assessment method for the correct selection of display parameters in a visual perception experiment. In this study, a flicker-free steady-state motion visual stimulation with continuous scanning frequency and different forms (sinusoidal or triangular) was presented on a low-latency LCD monitor at different refresh rates. Seventeen participants were asked to observe the visual stimulation without head movement or eye movement, and the effect of the refresh rate was assessed by analyzing the changes in the intensity of their visual evoked potentials. The results demonstrated that an increased refresh rate significantly improved the intensity of motion visual evoked potentials at stimulation frequency ranges of 7–28 Hz, and there was a significant interaction between the refresh rate and motion frequency. Furthermore, the increased refresh rate also had the potential to enhance the ability to perceive similar motion. Therefore, we recommended using a refresh rate of at least 120 Hz in motion visual perception experiments to ensure a better stimulation effect. If the motion frequency or velocity is high, a refresh rate of≥240 Hz is also recommended.

Abstract: Operating system offers a service known as memory management which manages and guides primary memory. It moves processes between disk and main memory during the execution back and forth. The process in which we provisionally moves process from primary memory to the hard disk so the memory is available for other processes. This process is known as swapping. Page replacement techniques are the methods by which the operating system concludes which memory pages to be swapped out and write to disk, whenever a page of main memory is required to be allocated. There are different policies regarding how to select a page to be swapped out when a page fault occurs to create space for new page. These Policies are called page replacement algorithms. In this paper the strategy for identifying the refresh rate for ‘Aging’ page replacement algorithm is presented and evaluated. Keywords: Aging algorithm, page replacement algorithm, refresh rate, virtual memory management.

This paper presents a mutual capacitance touch readout IC architecture for 120 Hz high-refresh-rate AMOLED displays. In high-refresh-rate AMOLED panels, whole pixels in a horizontal line should be updated without any time-sharing with each other, leading to an amplified display noise on touch screen panel (TSP) electrodes. The proposed system architecture mitigates severe display noise by synchronizing the driving for the TSP and AMOLED pixel circuits. The proposed differential sensing technique, which is based on noise suppression in reference to mutual capacitance channels, minimizes common-mode display noise. In the front-end circuit, intrinsic circuit offset is cancelled by a chopping scheme, which correlates to the phase of the driving signals in the TSP driver and operating clocks of the front-end. Operating at a 120 Hz scan-rate, it reduces display noise by more than 11.6 dB when compared with the conventional single-ended TSP sensing method. With a built-in 130-nm CMOS, a prototype IC occupies an area of 8.02 mm2 while consuming 6.4-mW power from a 3.3 V analog voltage supply.

This paper empirical investigates two basic statistical methods namely Adaptive Median and Adaptive Mean for motion detection in video surveillance for the optimization of parameters namely threshold and the refresh rate of background frame used in these methods. Experimentation shows that the optimum choice of parameters majorly affects the quality of motion detection. The performance of methods for different parameters is measured using precision, recall  and f1-score. PR curves are also drawn which are based on precision and recall values to show the effect of different parameters. Test data includes six data sets from different scenarios of ‘CDNet2012’. Experimental results verify that for every method there are fixed values of parameters with slight variations which gives better result of object motion. These parameter values can be used or adapted for future experimentation on these methods with respect to each scenario.

In this paper, we propose a new single-shot three-dimensional (3D) measuring method based on quaternary grating projection. In traditional binary grating phase measuring profilometry (PMP), a multi-step or color fringe pattern are usually used to extract the sinusoidal fringes. In our proposed method, by using the DLP4500’s 2-bit gray coding mode, the grayscale is quaternary. The three non-zero grayscales cyclically arranged in equal width, and the fourth grey value is 0 which is not encoded in the fringe pattern but represents the shadow information in the deformed pattern, where a quaternary grating is encoded. When the DLP4500 projects the quaternary grating onto the measured object, the charge coupled device (CCD) captures the corresponding deformed pattern synchronously. Three frames of binary deformed patterns with 1/3 duty cycle and a relative displacement of 1/3 period can be decomposed by the segmentation algorithm proposed in this paper. Three sinusoidal deformed patterns with a 2π/3 shift-phase can be obtained by extracting the fundamental frequency of the three binary deformed patterns correspondingly, and the 3D shape of the object can be reconstructed by PMP. Experimental results show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method. Because the DLP4500 only needs 2-bit coded grating for projection, the refresh rate of the projected grating is as high as 1428 Hz, which will have a broad application prospect in real time and fast online measurement.
