As the world of business becomes increasingly globalised, there is greater mobility of workers internationally. Prior research has found expatriates (and their families) experience work and cultural stressors when living and working in host countries, and the stressors may be greater when working in remote locations. This research explores perceptions of well-being a of expatriates at work in the resources sector, including how social capital impacts on the well-being of expatriates. The research was undertaken in Indonesia and involved semi-structured in-depth interviews with 43 resources sector expatriates, 8 spouses and 7 human resource managers who provided their perceptions of the well-being of expatriates at work. The findings highlight nine aspects of well-being at work for expatriates in the resources sector in Indonesia, including: social aspect, safety/security, benefits and disadvantages, work aspects, job and other attitudes, eudaimonic aspect, work-life balance, affect and external influences. The findings particularly emphasise the importance of safety, work life balances and external (organisational) influences. The research contributes to expatriate, well-being and social capital literature by providing an understanding of well-being at work for expatriates working in non-standard (often remote) workplaces in the resources sector. While the research was undertaken in Indonesia and includes context-specific examples from this developing country, the conceptualisation of well-being at work has broader application for employees working in non-standard workplaces across many sectors and contexts.

Peranan awak kapal atau ABK yang bekerja di kapal agar selalu menggunakan alat-alat keselamatan pada saat kerja di dek maupun di kamar mesin guna menghindari hal-hal yang   tidak   diinginkan   terjadi   seperti   kecelakaan   di   atas   Kapal.   Penelitian   ini menggunakan  metode  cause  and  effect  dengan  diagram  fishbone  dan  formal  safety assessment  menggunakan  tahapan  wawancara  dan  Qusioner  dengan  tujuan  untuk mendapatkan standar safety Work assessment yang direkomedasikan IMO. Penerapan prosedur keselamatan kerja di atas di Kl. Frans Kasiepo masih kurang diterapkan dalam pekerjaan  oleh  crew diantaranya  kurangnya  keterampilan  atau  pengetahuan tentang penerapan prosedur keselamatan kerja dan kurang adanya familiarisasi keselamatan kerja untuk crew di atas kapal. Kecelakaan kerja yang terjadi pada crew Kl. Frans Kasiepo disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor seperti, kurangnya pengalaman crew dalam bekerja di atas kapal, kurangnya kedisiplinan dan pemahaman akan penerapan prosedur keselamatan kerja. Sehingga mengkibatkan kerugian bagi crew maupun bagi Instansi.

Abstract This study represents the results of linear dynamics analysis of glass plates subjected to rock pieces impacts occurring in underground machines’ windows. The aim of the work is to provide analytical and numerical solutions, obtain frequencies and plate displacement, and compare results of stress calculation for different models. The work performs finite element method (FEM) computations within a modal analysis in 3D statement including a mesh-size convergence analysis. Given approach is a basement for estimation of safety work conditions for operators in cabins of underground mining vehicles when glass windows are subjected to rock bursts and damages.

Anthropometric data is widely used in various applications such as manufacturing, healthcare, forensics, and medical treatments. In addition, the data can be applied to design ergonomic tools, equipment, clothing, and footwear to ensure that the products, facilities, and services fit the users. This paper aims to analyze the existing literature on the importance of anthropometric data on the Malaysian population's productivity and quality of life and look into any further research that needs improvement. Guided by the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses), through Scopus and Web of Science databases, 15 related studies were identified. The review managed to extract six applications of anthropometric data and its seven perceived benefits. Data applications were classified into furniture, clothing and footwear, car seat, fitting and fixture, forensic investigation, and safety products. The benefits were grouped into easy to use, fit, well-being, welfare, safety, work efficiency, and identity verification by using thematic analysis. The review also highlighted the methodological issues related to the number of samples, locations coverage for a survey and the financial support in conducting research. Finally, several recommendations were drawn, including the importance of anthropometric database development at the end of this paper for reference by future scholars.

Human Resources Management is an important element to the success and progress of any organization, the uniqueness of HRM practices is considered as a possible competitive tool and the central value of the company. In this research, an attempt was made to study the impact of HRM challenges on post-COVID-19 HRM practices. The practices include health and safety, work schedule, cooperation communication, training, and recruitment and selection. The respondents of the study were different levels of managers working in oil and gas companies in Oman. An online questionnaire was used to collect data from 130 respondents. This research concludes that the level of HRM challenges has highly significant with the age group of the respondents. In addition, multiple linear regression was applied and the study revealed that three variables are highly significant with the post-COVID HRM practices. Those variables represent health issues in the Pandemic situation, difficulty in balancing between work and life, and difficulty in strategic focus during this pandemic. These variables underwent most of the post-COVID HRM practices in the Oil and gas companies in Oman.

Abstract Background The Norwegian Board of Health Supervision aims to contribute to the improvement of quality and patient safety in the healthcare services. Planned audits were performed to investigate how 12 selected Norwegian obstetric units reported and analyzed adverse events as the part of their quality assurance and patient safety work. Methods Serious adverse events coded as birth asphyxia, shoulder dystocia and severe postpartum hemorrhage that occurred during 2014 (the most recent year for which the quality assured data were available) were obtained from the Medical Birth Registry of Norway. The obstetric units were asked to submit medical records, internal adverse events reports, and their internal guidelines outlining which events should be reported to the quality assurance system. We identified the adverse events at each obstetric unit that were reported internally and/or to the central authorities. Two obstetricians carried out an evaluation of each event reported. Results Five hundred fifty-three serious adverse events were registered among 17,323 births that took place at the selected units. Twenty-one events were excluded because of incorrect coding or missing information. Eight events were registered in more than one category, and these were distributed to the category directly related to injury or adverse outcome. Nine of twelve (75 %) obstetric units had written guidelines describing which events should be reported. The obstetric units reported 49 of 524 (9.3 %) serious adverse events in their internal quality assurance system and 39 (7.4 %) to central authorities. Of the very serious adverse events, 29 of 149 (19.4 %) were reported. Twenty-three of 49 (47 %) reports did not contain relevant assessments or proposals for improving quality and patient safety. Conclusions This study showed that adverse event reporting and analyses by Norwegian obstetric units, as a part of quality assurance and patient safety work, are suboptimal. The reporting culture and compliance with guidelines need to be improved substantially for better safety in patient care, risk mitigation and clinical quality assurance.

BackgroundImprovement interventions would be easier to treat if they were stable and uninfluenced by their environment, but in practice, contextual factors may create difficulties in implementing and sustaining changes. Managers of healthcare organisations play an important role in quality and safety improvement. We need more research in the nursing home and homecare settings to support managers in their quality and safety improvement work. The aim of this study was to explore managers’ response to a leadership intervention on quality and safety improvement.MethodsThis study reports findings from the SAFE-LEAD intervention undertaken from April 2018 to March 2019. The research design was a multiple case study of two nursing homes and two homecare services in four municipalities in Norway. We used a combination of qualitative methods including interviews, workshops, observations, site visits and document analysis in our data collection that took place over a 1-year period.ResultsManagement continuity was key for the implementation process of the quality and safety leadership intervention. In the units where stable management teams were in place, the intervention was more rooted in the units, and changes in quality and safety practice occurred. The intervention served as an arena for managers to work with quality and safety improvement. We found that the workshops and use of the leadership guide contributed to a common understanding and commitment to quality and safety improvement among the managers.ConclusionsThis is a longitudinal study of managers’ response to a leadership intervention targeted to improve quality and safety work in nursing home and homecare settings. Our research demonstrates how the mechanisms of stable management and established structures are crucial for quality and safety improvement activities. Management continuity is key for participating in interventions and for using the leadership guide in quality and safety work.
