The topic of Georgia's inclusion in the Russian Empire is especially relevant, since the relationship between two historical neighbors today it is tense and it is necessary to especially carefully study the historical vicissitudes in order to realize the prospect of their future development. The article concerns the civil code of Russia and Georgia, the adaptation of the Georgian code of laws and the Code of King Vakhtang with all-Russian legislation. The authors consider a large period and cover the relationship between Russia and Georgia during the reign of Peter the First, Catherine the Second, Paul the First, Alexander the First and Alexander the Second. The authors analyze the process of systematization of the all-Russian legislation of 1826-1832 and the adoption of the Civil Code, which prompted local and central administrations to unify private and general imperial law. The authors investigate the use of Georgian civil law in private law relations in the Caucasus in the 19th century.

Abstract. A field study was undertaken to investigate the accuracy of two micrometeorological flux footprint models for calculating the gas emission rate from a synthetic 10 × 10 m surface area source, based on the vertical flux of gas measured at fetches of 15 to 50 m downwind of the source. Calculations were made with an easy-to-use tool based on the Kormann–Meixner analytical model and with a more sophisticated Lagrangian stochastic dispersion model. A total of 59 testable 10 min observation periods were measured over 9 d. On average, both models underestimated the actual release rate by approximately 30 %, mostly due to large underestimates at the larger fetches. The accuracy of the model calculations had large period-to-period variability, and no statistical differences were observed between the two models in terms of overall accuracy.

Abstract The cuticle of all insects is covered with hydrocarbons which have multiple functions. Cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) basically serve to protect insects against environmental harm and to reduce dehydration. In many species, some CHCs also act as pheromones. CHCs have been intensively studied in Drosophila species and more specially in D. melanogaster. In this species, flies produce about 40 CHCs forming a complex sex- and species-specific bouquet. The quantitative and qualitative pattern of the CHC bouquet was characterized during the first days of adult life but remains unexplored in aging flies. Here, we characterized CHCs during the whole—or a large period of—adult life in males and females of several wild type and transgenic lines. Both types of lines included standard and variant CHC profiles. Some of the genotypes tested here showed very dramatic and unexpected aging-related variation based on their early days profile. This study provides a concrete dataset to better understand the mechanisms underlying the establishment and maintenance of CHCs on the fly cuticle. It could be useful to determine physiological parameters, including age and response to climate variation, in insects collected in the wild.

Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a rare chronic degenerative disease. The only approved treatment, Riluzole, is not available and is not economically affordable for most patients. Objective: To report here a case of a pregnant woman 27 years of age with ALS, confirmed through electromyography. After spontaneous abortion and 88 days without clinical improvement and dependent on mechanical ventilation, treatment with autologous stem cell transplantation and immunomodulation was decided upon for the patient. Methods: The patient received a daily subcutaneous (s.c.) dose of 300 μg human Granulocyte-Colony stimulating factor for a period of 3 days. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated by leukapheresis. These cells were self-transplanted to the patient 5 cc via lumbar puncture and 5 cc intravenously (i.v.). The immunomodulation treatment was based on the surface-fixation method. Results: The patient remained hospitalized for an additional 249 days, at which time when she was contrareferred to a secondary-level health institution. Conclusion: A treatment scheme combining ASCT (Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation) and immunomodulation, based on the surface-fixation method, could be an option to get a large period of no progression stage in ALS.

A growing literature demonstrates increasing remunicipalization of local public services. Yet, while this literature is becoming extensive, many debates still exist about remunicipalization’s causes. This article reports the findings of a meta-analysis of the remunicipalization literature, focusing on the question: how do country, sector and method effects affect the findings of remunicipalization studies? I include articles on remunicipalization under different terms (‘remunicipalization’, ‘reverse privatization’, ‘insourcing’ and ‘contracting in’), using a large range of methods (case studies, surveys and document analysis) and covering a large period (1995–2019). I find 30 causes of remunicipalization that are considered and found in the literature. Political and pragmatic factors appear to be most frequently considered and found as causes of remunicipalization in the literature; environmental factors are less often considered but seem highly relevant. Moreover, I uncover large differences between the qualitative and quantitative literatures. I offer a research agenda to allow greater future synthesis in the remunicipalization literature. Points for practitioners The literature on remunicipalization is highly fragmented and remunicipalization can have many different causes. Remunicipalization appears to be both a political and a pragmatic trend, but the literature is still too fragmented to know for sure. Be aware of the potential biases and limitations in current research on (causes of) remunicipalization.

Cattle are animals that stay in the herd for a large period of the day in the open air pasture. This daily routine leaves them exposed and susceptible to infectious diseases. One of them is the Bovine Parasitic Sadness which is considered one of the greatest cattle health problems due its high rate of mortality and morbidity. In this work preliminary results are presented from calf inoculated with anaplasmosis. Blood samples were collected and analyzed through Fourier Transform Near Infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR). The animal was monitored for 60 days until its recovery. This exploratory work shows the potentiality of the FT-NIR in the detection, follow-up and recovery of the anaplasmosis. The possibility of prevention of this disease in the herd via a fast optical analysis may bring a great breakthrough in disease control in dairy and beef cattle.
