We study the transitions between the different color states of a static quark-antiquark pair, singlet and octet, in a thermal medium. This is done non-perturbatively exploiting the infinite mass limit of QCD. This study is interesting because it can be used for future developments within the framework of Effective Field Theories (EFTs) and because it can be combined with other techniques, like lattice QCD or AdS/CFT, to gain non-perturbative information about the evolution of quarkonium in a medium. We also study the obtained expressions in the large Nc limit. This allows us to learn lessons that are useful to simplify phenomenological models of quarkonium in a plasma.

The present investigation aims to devise a thermal management system (TMS) for electric vehicles able to improve on limitations like charging time and all-electric range, together with the safety and environmental impact of the chosen thermal medium. A research gap is identified, as focus is often on addressing system thermal performance without considering that the thermal medium must not only provide suitable performances, but also must not add risks to both passengers and the environment. Thus, this work proposes an innovative cooling system including graphite sheets and a Loop Heat Pipe, filled with Novec™ 649 as working fluid, due to its exceptional environmental properties (GWP = 1 − ODP = 0) and safety features (non-flammable, non-toxic, dielectric). A three-cell module experimental demonstrator was built to compare temperatures when the proposed TMS is run with Novec™ 649 and ethanol. Results of testing over a bespoke fast charge driving cycle show that Novec™ 649 gave a faster start-up and a slightly higher maximum temperature (0.7 °C), meaning that the gains in safety and lower environmental impact brought by Novec™ 649 came without lowering the thermal performance. Finally, the TMS was tested under three different fast charge conditions (1C, 2C, 3C), obtaining maximum temperatures of 28.4 °C, 36.3 °C and 46.4 °C, respectively.

Abstract We investigate the energy loss and equilibration of highly energetic particles/jets inside a QCD medium. Based on an effective kinetic description of QCD, including 2 ↔ 2 elastic processes, radiative 1 ↔ 2 processes, as well as the back-reaction of jet constituents onto the thermal medium, we describe the in-medium evolution of jets from the energy scale of the jet ∼ E all the way to the medium scale ∼ T. While elastic processes and back-reaction are important to describe the equilibration of soft fragments of the jet, we find that the energy loss is dominated by an inverse turbulent cascade due to successive radiative branchings, which has interesting implications for the energy spectra and chemistry of jet fragments.

The two-dimensional steady-state natural convection of shear-thinning fluids is studied numerically between two concentric horizontal cylinders with different constant temperatures. The inner cylinder was put eccentrically into the outer one. The inner cylinder are held at constant temperatures with the inner one heated isothermally at temperature (Th) and the outer cylinder have one fin cooled isothermally at temperature Tc (Th > Tc). The simulations have been taken for the parameters 102 ≤ Ra ≤ 104, = 0.71 ≤ Pr ≤ 10 and 0.6 ≤ n ≤1.The effects of Rayleigh number and Prandtl number on the dimensionless velocity and temperature are investigated for both shear-thinning and Newtonian fluids. Also the mean Nusselt number for various values of governing parameters is obtained and discussed. Although huge researches were conducted for natural convection in non-circular enclosures, researches for annular enclosures are very limited, especially finned enclosures. The length of the fin is also studied. The results show that increase in the length of fin increases the effectiveness of heat transfer. Also, the increase in Ra number increases the heat transfer effectiveness.

In the presence of a thermal medium or an external electro-magnetic field, neutrinos can interact with photon, mediated by the corresponding charged leptons (real or virtual). The effect of a medium or an electromagnetic field is two-fold—to induce an effective [...]

Heavy quarkonium related observables are very useful to obtain information about the medium created in relativistic heavy ion collisions. The interaction of charmonium or bottomonium with the hot QCD medium created in these collisions can be efficiently described with the use of non-relativistic Effective Field Theories. In this proceedings, I will review recent progress in understanding quarkonium dynamics in a thermal medium with the use of potential non-relativistic QCD (pNRQCD). First, I will discuss the medium modifications of the decay width and the binding energy. Using pNRQCD power counting it is possible to identify in which temperature regimes a potential model can describe these modifications and what is the dominant physical process behind the thermal corrections in each case. After that, I will discuss the combination of pNRQCD with open quantum systems techniques. This allows making predictions about the nuclear modification factor that can be compared with experimental measurements.
