Bulk amorphous alloys have some good mechanical properties due to their special atomic arrangement and are now popular in the field of materials. Zr-based amorphous alloys have good mechanical properties, but they are different from lattice slip materials with high ductility. When these materials are compressed and deformed, it generates a concentrated elastic force in the shear zone that causes instantaneous amorphous fracture. The extremely poor plasticity of Zr-based amorphous materials highlight their shortcomings and make them difficult to use in engineering applications. In this paper, it is found that the plasticity of Zr-based amorphous alloys is enhanced to a certain extent by intermittent ultrasonic vibration-assisted compression (IUVC). The ultrasonic vibration stress of IUVC can increase the extra free volume of Zr-based amorphous alloys and increase their degree of “rejuvenation”, which is manifested as an increase in plasticity. To explore how IUVC affects the plasticity of Zr-based amorphous alloys, we design experiments to analyse the effects of different intermittent times, pre-pressures and ultrasonic amplitudes on the plasticity of amorphous alloys.

At present, the process of designing a GTE involves a large amount of computational modeling. With the help of computational modeling, it is possible to predict a behavior of an engine part during engine operations before conducting experimental studies. For example, the numerical dynamic behavior analysis of compressor blades and prediction of dynamic stress levels during fluctuations in free modes are urgent problems. A high level of dynamic stress in the compressor blades in resonant modes can break a blade and stop an engine. In this paper, we propose a simple vibration stress estimation method for the compressor blades based on the calculation of natural frequencies and vibration forms. The method is based on a comparative analysis and scaling of stresses by the value of the total potential or kinetic energy. This estimation method is valid for local changes in the blade geometry, which do not lead to changes in the natural frequencies and vibration forms of the blades, assuming that the geometry change does not change the level of the aerodynamic excitation of the blade or its damping. At the stage of development or revision of the blade, a large number of variants of the blade geometry needs to be analyzed in order to reduce dynamic stresses. The proposed vibration stress estimation method has shown its high efficiency in developing and refining the geometry of the compressor blade. The vibration stress estimation method was tested using the rotor blade of a high-pressure compressor. As a result of the experimental study of the rotor blade, a high level of vibration stresses exceeding the permissible level was found for natural frequencies and vibration forms. To reduce the vibration stresses, measures were proposed to modify the geometry of the blade. For the modified blade geometry, the vibration stress estimation was performed with a prediction of the vibration stress values based on the manifested vibration forms. In order to verify the estimated vibration stress change, an experimental study of the modified blade was conducted. The vibration stress estimation method for the compressor blades was successfully verified.

In this study, a combined low and high cycle fatigue (CCF) life prediction model, which considers the crack closure effect (CCE) of micro-defects, is proposed based on the continuous damage mechanics. The CCF life prediction model is decomposed into three sub-models: the low cycle fatigue (LCF), high cycle fatigue (HCF) under the maximum stress of LCF (HCFLM), and their coupled damage models. The CCE is considered by taking one CCE parameter into the HCFLM sub-model. The experimental CCF data of K403 full-scale turbine blades under different vibration stresses is used to verify the accuracy of the proposed model to compare with other life prediction models. The prediction life from the proposed model falls within the 2 times of scatter band compared with the experimental results. Further, there are the different damage evolution forms at different vibration stresses. When the vibration stress is below 64.48MPa, the CCF damage mainly is caused by the LCF damage. However, while the vibration stress is higher than 64.48MPa, the HCFLM damage plays a major role in the CCF damage accumulation, and it is predicted that the CCF damage of the first stage serration on the K403 turbine blades is mainly from LCF.

Abstract The present paper proposes an improved contactless measurement method for vibration stress of piping systems, by which the measurement time is shorter and the measuring works are more simple. The proposed method includes two processes, in which the bending mode shape of piping vibration is identified by a transmission-type light emitting diode (LED) displacement sensor and the vibration stress is calculated based on beam theory using the approximated curve of the bending mode shape. The proposed method uses one advanced LED displacement sensor to measure the vibration stress though multiple conventional LED sensors must be used in the previous method developed by the authors. Therefore, the measuring system could be reduced in size and a light-weight and portable measurement instrument was developed. The measurement accuracy and reliability of the new method were validated by the vibration experiment using a mock-up piping system.
