In rapidly developing countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where this study took place, having a body of competent, dedicated key workers in STEM fields is critical to growing national economies. This, in turn, requires motivated, well-qualified graduates of STEM degrees. School students' perceptions of science, scientists and science careers have been shown in some research to affect uptake of science degrees later on. How much of their science classwork students experience as authentically 'feeling like scientists' is less understood, yet important. This study took place in upper primary science classrooms in the UAE. Immediately following a science lesson, children were interviewed in focus groups (n=66, with an approximately even gender split).  Broad questions were explored, such as whether they felt like 'real scientists' when they 'performed' science in the classroom, whether they enjoyed science, and their science career aspirations. 83% of students stated enjoying science, while 61% would like to have a career involving science in the future. The interview data revealed that, overall, children mostly disagreed that their classroom science was reflective of work a 'real scientist' would do, chiefly due to perceptions of a lack of discovery element in their work, which suggested to them a lack of authentic science exploration, and  of the work not being dangerous enough. Students frequently reported feeling that they were 'following steps' because the teacher 'already knew the answers', which was different from the work of a scientist. The implications of these findings to classroom practice are discussed.

This purposes of this research is to improve learning result on science subject through google classroom application. Google classroom can be used to assist students in developing problem solving skills This classroom action research conducted by 2 cycles of the four phases: planning, implementation, observation, reflection. The subjects were students from class VII- Junior High School State 2 Tebing Tinggi which amounted to 37 students. This study used a qualitative descriptive analysis technique. The results showed that the use of the google classroom application of science subjects can improve student learning result characterized by increased mastery learning students, namely the first cycle (70,2%), cycle II (89,1%) and complete learn the clasical equal to 89.1 %.  Đối với việc tổ chức hoạt động học tập trong lớp học, sự tham gia trao đổi bằng ngôn ngữ nói của học sinh là một yếu tố quan trọng. Do đó, trong nghiên cứu này, chúng tôi quan tâm đến vấn đề hiểu được các dạng phong cách tham gia lớp học có sử dụng ngôn ngữ nói của học sinh. Chúng tôi đã sử dụng bảng câu hỏi Engagement and Participation in Classroom – Science (EPIC-S) để khảo sát phong cách tham gia lớp học sử dụng ngôn ngữ nói của học sinh Việt Nam và nhận thức về mong đợi của giáo viên đối với các phong cách tham gia lớp học. Khảo sát được thực hiện trên 883 học sinh ở một số trường trung học công lập ở 3 khu miền Bắc, Trung và Nam Việt Nam Dữ liệu được phân tích bằng phần mềm SPSS 2, kết quả cho thấy, học sinh Việt Nam có xu hướng tham gia lớp học trong im lặng, tức chủ yếu là tập trung lắng nghe, ghi chú, cố gắng hiểu bài giảng. Tuy nhiên, một phần đáng kể học sinh đã có sự kết hợp ngoài việc ghi ghú hay lắng nghe thì cũng mong muốn tham gia lớp học bằng cách diễn đạt bằng ngôn ngữ nói để trao đổi, thảo luận. Kết quả nghiên cứu sẽ đóng góp vào việc xây dựng phương pháp giảng dạy môn khoa học ở Việt Nam.

This study examined the impact of a live, interactive electronic field trip (EFT), called Scientist Online: The Science of Mosquitoes via the Streaming Science platform and Skype in the Classroom network for connecting university entomologists with middle and high school youth around the world. More than 150 students viewed the program, and 60 answered post-quantitative and qualitative questions regarding their perceptions of the EFT and knowledge related to mosquitoes. Students reported an increased knowledge about mosquitoes, mosquito-borne illness, mosquito-borne illness prevention and protection, entomology and related careers, and the mosquito life-cycle. Future research should determine how interactive, synchronous video programs with scientists can impact participants’ behavior intentions, specifically for making lifestyle choices based in science, as well as decision-making for improving their health and the planet.

<span>The focus of this article is the Common Framework of Science Learning Outcomes, K-12 developed under the aegis of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC). In February 1995 CMEC adopted the Pan-Canadian Protocol for Collaboration on School Curriculum, which formed the basis for the Pan-Canadian Science Project resulting in the Framework as a deliverable. Science consultants from provincial and territorial ministries of education, together with classroom science teachers working in Canada's two oficial languages 4nglish and French- were involved in the development of the framework.</span>
