Sports can cause the consumption of energy materials in the body. The rational use of nutritional supplements can maintain the homeostasis of the organism, which plays a very important role in improving the competitive performance of sports athletes. The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of nutritional supplements on basketball sports fatigue. The method of this study is as follows: first of all, 15 basketball players in our city were selected as the experimental objects, and they were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group. The members of the experimental group took nutrients. After the training, 6 days a week, 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon, and the rest was adjusted on Sunday. Before training, four weeks and eight weeks of training, the blood routine indexes and body functions of athletes were tested. The results showed that the number of red blood cells, hemoglobin concentration, and average hemoglobin concentration of ligustilide supplement of the athletes were at the level of 0.05 after 4 weeks and 8 weeks, and the difference was significant ( P < 0.05 ). The nutritional supplements were used in sprint (3.4 s less), long-distance running (12.8 s less), and weight lifting (6.2 kg more) to a certain extent. Nutritional supplements are used as an auxiliary means of diet to supplement the amino acids, trace elements, vitamins, minerals, etc. required by the human body. The conclusion is that nutrition supplement can effectively improve the indexes of athletes’ body in about four weeks, but the effect is not obvious after a long time. This study provides a certain method for the research of nutritional supplements in the field of sports.

Background: The association between oral nutritional supplement use and nutritional parameters among patients with nondialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD-ND) with or at high risk of undernutrition/protein-energy wasting has not been previously studied. The definition of patient subgroups most likely to benefit from oral nutritional supplementation (ONS) is also an area where more research is needed. Objective: To assess nutritional parameter trajectories among patients with CKD-ND prescribed oral nutritional supplements in British Columbia, and to compare trajectories by nutritional phenotype. Design: Longitudinal cohort study, pre-post design. Setting: Multidisciplinary CKD clinics across British Columbia. Patients: A total of 3957 adult patients with CKD-ND, who entered multidisciplinary CKD clinics during 2010 to 2019, met criteria for oral nutritional supplement prescription based on dietitian assessment, and received ≥1 oral nutritional supplement prescription. Measurements: Longitudinal nutritional parameters, including body mass index (BMI), serum albumin, serum bicarbonate, serum phosphate, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Methods: Using linear mixed models, slopes for nutritional and inflammation parameters were assessed in the 2-year periods before and after the first oral nutritional supplement prescription. Hierarchical cluster analysis was applied to identify nutritional phenotypes using baseline data, and slope analysis was repeated by cluster. Results: In the pre-oral-nutritional-supplement period, declines in BMI (−0.87 kg/m2/year, 95% confidence interval [CI]: −0.99 to −0.75), albumin (−1.11 g/L/year, 95% CI: −1.27 to −0.95), and bicarbonate (−0.49 mmol/L/year; 95% CI: −0.59 to −0.39), and increases in NLR (+0.79/year; 95% CI: 0.60 to 0.98) and phosphate (+0.05 mmol/L/year; 95% CI: 0.04 to 0.06) were observed. Following oral nutritional supplement prescription, there were statistically significant increases in BMI slope (+0.91 kg/m2/year, P < .0001), albumin slope (+0.82 g/L/year, P < .0001), and phosphate slope (+0.02 mmol/L/year, P = .005), as well as a decline in NLR slope of −0.55/year ( P < .0001). There was no significant change in bicarbonate slope. Cluster analysis identified 5 distinct phenotypes. The cluster with the highest mean baseline NLR and lowest mean BMI demonstrated the greatest number of improvements in nutritional parameter slopes in the post-oral-nutritional-supplement period. Limitations: Possibility of residual confounding. Data on dietary intake, muscle mass, and nutritional scoring systems were not available in the registry. Conclusions: Among patients with CKD-ND prescribed oral nutritional supplements, there were improvements in nutrition/inflammation parameters over time following the first ONS prescription. The heterogeneity in response to ONS by cluster subgroup suggests an individualized approach to nutritional management may be beneficial.

Optic neuropathy can occur secondary to nutritional deficiencies in patients who have undergone bariatric surgery. We present a unique case of a 39-year-old man, claiming to be generally healthy, who presented with intermittent vertical diplopia and bilateral decreased vision in each eye. Visual acuity was 6/18 in the right eye and 6/12 in the left eye. Ishihara testing was defective for both eyes. Automated visual fields showed a severe generalized reduction in sensitivity in both eyes. The patient had a left head tilt and a right intermittent hypertropia of 30 prism diopters in primary position. CT of the orbits revealed a right superior oblique of small caliber. On further questioning, the patient admitted to a history of bariatric surgery 7 years prior to presentation with failure to take any nutritional supplements. Blood work demonstrated deficiencies in folate, thiamine, and copper. Within 6 months of initiating nutritional supplements, the vision in each eye was markedly improved and the diplopia resolved. There was an associated normalization of thiamine and copper, but folate levels remained low. We believe that the nutritional deficiency caused a bilateral optic neuropathy and the resulting vision loss precipitated a manifestation of a congenital superior oblique palsy that had previously just been a phoria. The case emphasizes the importance of considering occult sensory etiologies of acquired strabismus.

Abstract. In this work, the use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is demonstrated as a powerful technique that can provide accurate thermodynamic property values of nutritional supplements such as tryptophan. Nutritional supplements require a decontamination procedure and irradiation appears as a promising technique for this purpose. The valuable properties of tryptophan for food and pharmaceutical industry as dietary supplement have led to increasing interest in its technological behaviour. L-, D- isomers and DL-racemic mixture of tryptophan irradiated and non-irradiated were studied by DSC. Irradiation was performed at room temperature with gamma radiations using a 137Cs source, the irradiation dose range was between 0.6- 10 kGy. Two steps decomposition pattern for both irradiated and non-irradiated samples up to 350 oC was found. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic studies were performed. The obtained results indicate that the irradiation process does not inhibit the thermal properties of tryptophan when irradiated up to 10 kGy. The HPLC method was employed to evidence the degradation of the irradiated material.   Resumen. En este trabajo, se demuestra el uso de calorimetría diferencial de barrido (DSC) como una técnica poderosa que puede proporcionar valores precisos de propiedades termodinámicas de suplementos nutricionales como el triptófano. Los suplementos nutricionales requieren un procedimiento de descontaminación y la irradiación aparece como una técnica prometedora para este propósito. Las valiosas propiedades del triptófano para la industria alimentaria y farmacéutica como suplemento dietético han provocado un creciente interés por su comportamiento tecnológico. Los isómeros L-, D- y la mezcla racémica DL- de triptófano irradiado y no irradiado fueron estudiados por DSC. La irradiación se realizó a temperatura ambiente con radiaciones gamma utilizando una fuente de 137Cs, el rango de dosis de irradiación estuvo entre 0.6 - 10 kGy. Se encontró un patrón de descomposición de dos pasos para muestras irradiadas y no irradiadas hasta 350 ºC. Se realizaron estudios espectroscópicos de infrarrojos por la transformada de Fourier. Los resultados obtenidos indican que el proceso de irradiación no inhibe las propiedades térmicas del triptófano cuando se irradia hasta 10 kGy. Se empleó el método HPLC para evidenciar la degradación del material irradiado.
