Grade III and IV obese patients had higher levels of depression than grade II obese patients, lower self-esteem, and lower quality of life. Thus, an important but often overlooked outcome is the assessment of the impact of surgery on mental health. This is an important outcome measure because it can contribute to a patient's concept of overall well-being. Although British Columbia has an edge in managing obesity, psychosocial and behavioral factors can influence postoperative outcomes. According to some authors, mental illness severe enough to require treatment may be a negative predictor of surgical outcome. This review reviews the literature on the impact of liposuction surgery on the psychological functioning of patients with obesity. Most studies have shown that people with obesity, especially those requiring surgery, report significantly worse quality of life. This may be due to impaired physical and psychosocial functioning, discrimination and psychiatric consequences, or it may be due to overweight and associated morbidity. Finally, most research and clinical experience shows that people with obesity who seek surgical treatment for obesity are more likely to have psychological problems, abnormal eating behaviors, and quality of life. Life declines more than the average person, but bariatric surgery can help improve your mental state. Patients, improve the patient's quality of life.

Introduction. Liposuction is one of the most popular aesthetic surgical procedures. Liposuction is associated with weight loss, but the primary significance of this operation is body lines contouring. According to US plastic surgery statistics for 2018, liposuction surgery was ranked in the top five of cosmetic surgical procedures, and the most common area of suction in the body was the abdomen. One of the most difficult complications after this procedure is perforation of the small or large intestine, with a frequency of 0.014%. In order to avoid this complication, a comprehensive pre-operative, post-operative examination of the patient and ensuring the safety of the operation are important. We presenting a complicated clinical case of liposuction and literature review. Presentation of case report. In July 2019, a 49-year-old patient underwent surgery by plastic surgeons. Abdominal liposuction surgery was performed. On the first postoperative day, the patient complained of diffuse abdominal pain (VAS 7–8 points), but there were no clinical signs of peritonitis. The patient underwent urgent surgery following the development of a clinical picture of sepsis and peritonitis due to tomography. The operation started with diagnostic laparoscopy. On the left side of the abdominal wall, 4–5 mm abdominal wall defects were observed, and the intestinal cavity was rich in intestinal contents. No obvious injuries to the small intestine, colon or other abdominal organs were observed during laparoscopy. Therefore, a laparotomy was performed, during which two perforations of the small intestine were found and sutured. The postoperative period was smooth, with the patient discharged home after 11 bed days. Conclusions. Intestinal perforation after liposuction is a rare but dangerous complication. Although bowel injury is one of the most severe complications. Prevention is possible starting with a detailed clinical examination of the patient in the preoperative period. The postoperative period should be particularly important in light of the patient’s complaints and clinical symptoms. The presented clinical case shows what a complication of abdominal liposuction can be threatening and how important its early diagnosis and vigilance are.

A previously healthy 28-year-old female developed bilateral painless vision loss, more prominent in the right eye than in the left, following abdominoplasty and liposuction surgery. Laboratory studies showed severe peri- and post-operative anemia. Over a 5-month follow-up, visual function remained decreased but stable in the right eye and improved in the left eye. This is the second reported case of anterior ischemic optic neuropathy in one eye and posterior ischemic optic neuropathy in the other eye after liposuction. Level of evidence: Level VI, case report study.

Lipoedema, an adipose tissue disorder, is a poorly visible, often unrecognised condition. To foster a greater understanding of the significant and debilitating impacts faced by women living with lipoedema, the charity Lipoedema UK conducted four focus group interviews, the findings of which were published in a series of reports under the umbrella title ‘Women in dire need’. The reports identified the substantial and numerous negative effects of lipoedema on the women's everyday lives, including the patients' experiences with compression garments, the effects of liposuction surgery (many of which were not positive), the everyday impacts ranging from pain and reduced mobility to poor self-esteem and working prospects, and the considerable challenges faced by women with late-stage lipoedema which can render them immobile.

In awake liposuction surgery, the extent of surgery that can be performed in a single session is limited to the toxic threshold levels of the anesthetic. Today, lidocaine is the most commonly used anesthetic. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical safety of a combined prilocaine-lidocaine tumescent solution, and to compare its efficacy and safety to patients receiving lidocaine only. In this cross-sectional study, the efficacy and the occurrence of clinical side effects of a prilocaine-lidocaine tumescent solution were compared with a standard solution containing lidocaine only. All patients received the same dose of prilocaine-lidocaine (n = 142) and of lidocaine (n = 142), respectively. Both tumescent solutions provided similar and effective local anesthesia during lipoaspiration. There were significantly more early signs of toxicity (nausea, irritation, light-headedness, and tachycardia) in patients receiving the standard lidocaine solution. A tumescent solution containing both lidocaine and prilocaine reduces the occurrence of early signs of toxicity of 1 or both anesthetics. It is a safe solution, provided the surgeon has extensive knowledge of potential adverse effects, and the guidelines of care for liposuction are strictly followed.

Liposuction is becoming an increasingly common procedure of aesthetic surgery, that patients choose to shape the body. Apart from the risks associated with the surgery, one should also consider whether the reduction of adipose tissue can significantly affect the metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates and, indirectly, that of bone tissue. The aim of the presented study was to assess the effects of small-volume liposuction surgery in the gluteal–femoral region on the selected markers of carbohydrate, lipid, and bone metabolism. The study included 27 women (40.75 ± 13.67 years of age, BMI = 25.9 ± 4.13 kg/m2) subjected to the removal of 3.35 ± 0.994 L of adipose tissue to shape the body. Following the procedure, significant changes in the body composition and body adiposity indicators were observed in these women. A slight decrease in adiponectin, leptin, resistin and insulin levels and HOMA-IR value was found three months after the procedure. No changes in the lipid profile of the subjects were found. It can be concluded that the removal of a small volume of adipose tissue from the gluteal-femoral region has a slight but positive effect on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, providing a decreased risk of developing insulin resistance.

Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive technique which works as an alternative to liposuction surgery. It has a limited side effect profile and reduces localized fat significantly through controlled cooling of the dermis, thus, inducing apoptosis of fat cells. The cases of three female patients, which had been previously documented in a case report in order to demonstrate the treatment efficacy from of 1 to 3 months after the procedure, were considered in this study. Clinical photographs of the treated arms, lower abdomen, and upper abdomen demonstrate the short-term fat reduction efficacy in the three subjects.
