Obesity is a major health problem that is caused by body fat accumulation and that can lead to metabolic diseases. Owing to several side effects of the currently used antiobesity drugs, natural plants have risen as safe and potential candidates to alleviate obesity. We have previously reported the antiobesity effect of Hydrangea serrata (Thunb.) Ser. leaves extract (WHS) and its underlying mechanisms. As an extension of our preclinical studies, this study aimed to investigate the effect of WHS on body weight and body fat reduction in overweight or obese humans. A total of 93 healthy overweight or obese males and females, aged 19–65 years, with body mass indexes (BMIs) ≥ 25 and <32 kg/m2, were recruited and received either an oral administration of 600 mg of WHS, or placebo tablets for 12 weeks. Daily supplementation with WHS decreased body weights, body fat masses, and BMIs compared with the placebo-treated group. The hip circumferences, visceral fat areas, abdominal fat areas, and visceral-to-subcutaneous ratios decreased after WHS supplementation. No significant side effects were observed during or after the 12 weeks of WHS intake. In conclusion, WHS, which has beneficial effects on body weight and body fat reduction, could be a promising antiobesity supplement that does not produce any side effects.

In this paper, overweight or obese young women with sports experience and body fat rate > 30% were divided into groups to compare the effect of "HIIT" and "aerobic" exercise in different sequence combination training methods, and analyze whether "HIIT + Aerobic" is more effective than "aerobic + HIIT". The aim is to provide more effective training programs and establish scientific fitness awareness for overweight or obese young women who have sports experience.

Abstract Background Patient-reported outcome (PRO) data evaluating the physical and psychosocial impact of Cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting) treatment are limited. Objectives Assess multidimensional aspects of satisfaction following cryolipolysis treatment of the flanks and abdomen using a combination of PRO instruments. Methods This was a multi-national, prospective, single cohort, interventional study. The primary endpoint was the proportion of Satisfied or Very Satisfied participants with treatment at 12 weeks post final treatment. Secondary endpoints included satisfaction categorized by treatment area, total number of treatment cycles, baseline body mass index (BMI), and fat volume reduction measured by 3D photography at 12 weeks post final treatment. Exploratory endpoints assessed the physical and psychosocial impacts of treatment. Safety was monitored throughout the study. Results Of 112 participants who were treated, 74.1% were female. The mean age and BMI were 42.5 years and 24.9 kg/mg 2, respectively. Of the 106 evaluable participants, 89.6% were Satisfied or Very Satisfied with treatment results. Satisfaction was high regardless of body area(s), total number of treatment cycles, or baseline BMI. Mean (SD) fat volume reduction was 264.8 mL (411.4). Overall, 90.6% reported Noticeable or Very Noticeable fat reduction, 89.6% were Likely or Very Likely to treat additional areas, and 93.4% would recommend cryolipolysis to a friend. 24 (21.4%) participants reported treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs); 23 (20.5%) reported these as Adverse Device Effects (ADE). No serious device-related or unanticipated adverse effects occurred. Conclusions Cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting) for fat reduction of the flanks and/or abdomen was well-tolerated and associated with high levels of satisfaction across multidimensional PROs.

Liposuction as the word suggests involves sucking out fat from the subcutaneous layers. In many parts of the world it is used interchangeably with weight loss and non-surgical fat reduction procedures. The gold standard for liposuction for many decades has been the “Suction assisted Liposuction’ also called SAL. Newer technologies have been introduced with varied claims about skin retraction, painless and complete evacuation of fat as well as a faster recovery. This chapter elaborates the personal experience of the Authors with regards to the discussed newer technologies bringing into perspective their indications, mechanism of action as well as clinical outcomes. At the outset the Authors would like to state emphatically that technologies are as good as the surgeon holding them and that somewhat same result can be achieved through a traditional liposuction in most of the cases. A surgeon looking to incorporate these technologies in practice should first achieve a mastery of traditional SAL for the best outcomes.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrinopathy with high prevalence. miR-141-3p downregulation was reported in PCOS rats. This study intended to investigate miR-141-3p expression in serum of PCOS patients and its correlation with glucose and lipid metabolism. A total of 100 PCOS patients and 100 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Clinical parameters and glucose and lipid indexes were analyzed. A 3-month fat reduction intervention was conducted to PCOS-obese patients. Expressions of miR-141-3p and PTEN were detected. WHR and levels of TG, HDL-C, FBG, FINS, HOMA-β, and HOMA-IR showed significant differences in PCOS patients. miR-141-3p was downregulated in PCOS patients. Area under ROC curve of miR-141-3p diagnosing PCOS-obese patients was 0.985 with specificity 95.35% and flexibility 93.33%. Levels of glucose and lipid metabolism indexes were increased while HDL-C level was decreased in miR-141-3p low expression group. Indexes of PCOS-obese patients were improved and miR-141-3p was upregulated after fat reduction intervention. PTEN was upregulated in PCOS patients and negatively correlated with miR-141-3p. In conclusion, miR-141-3p was downregulated in PCOS patients and had higher diagnostic value on PCOS and associated with glucose and lipid metabolism. miR-141-3p might play a role in glucose and lipid metabolism in PCOS-obese patients by targeting PTEN.
