AbstractCarotenoids have several crucial biological functions and are part of the cold adaptation mechanism of some bacteria. Some pink-pigmented Arthrobacter species produce the rare C50 carotenoid bacterioruberin, whose function in these bacteria is unclear and is found mainly in halophilic archaea. Strains Arthrobacter agilis DSM 20550T and Arthrobacter bussei DSM 109896T show an increased bacterioruberin content if growth temperature is reduced from 30 down to 10 °C. In vivo anisotropy measurements with trimethylammonium-diphenylhexatriene showed increased membrane fluidity and a broadening phase transition with increased bacterioruberin content in the membrane at low-temperature growth. Suppression of bacterioruberin synthesis at 10 °C using sodium chloride confirmed the function of bacterioruberin in modulating membrane fluidity. Increased bacterioruberin content also correlated with increased cell resistance to freeze–thaw stress. These findings confirmed the adaptive function of bacterioruberin for growth at low temperatures for pink-pigmented Arthrobacter species.

A pigment is a substance that is substantially used in different industries that come in a wide range of coloration and few of which are soluble in water. Bacterial pigments have many applications in the modern day life. Some microorganisms have the characteristics feature to produce pigments which may additionally beneficial us in identification. Bacterial pigments have larger compatibility and greater biodegradability with the environment. Nontoxic nature of pigment produced with the aid of a huge range of microorganisms make them ecofriendly for use in foodstuff, dye, cosmetics, pharmacy and different industrial purposes. Pigments of bacteria provide various advantages compared to synthetic dyes. They are biodegradable in nature, easy to extract, easily available, cheaper substrates needed. The pigment produced by the bacteria can be used as anticancer agents, antibacterial agent and anti-proliferative agents. The object of the existing find out about was once to isolated  pigment producing microorganism from water and soil samples and explores their properties. Based on their morphological and biochemical characteristics, they have been recognized as Micrococcus and Arthrobacter. The pigment isolated from bacterial spp. is used for the antimicrobial activity, anti-oxidant recreation and for optimization of pH, temperature and NaCl. It was once concluded that water and soil have various microorganisms and they have the capacity of producing pigments.

Mannose-6-phosphate (M6P) is involved in many metabolic pathways in life, and it has important applications in the treatment of diseases. This study explored a cost-effective enzyme catalytic synthesis method of M6P, using polyphosphate-dependent mannose kinase from Arthrobacter species. This synthesis uses polyphosphate to replace expensive ATP, and it is greener and safer than chemical synthesis. This study investigated the effects of key factors such as metal ions, temperature, and substrate addition on this enzymatic reaction, and improved the conversion efficiency. We moreover take advantage of the response surface method to explore the best catalytic conditions synthetically. The conversion was 99.17% successful under the optimal reaction conditions. After a series of optimizations, we carried out a 200 mL scale-up experiment, which proved that the method has good prospects for industrial applications.

AbstractThe omnipresence of Arthrobacter species in polluted and toxic soils indicates their great potential in environmental biotechnologies, but practical applications of these bacteria are scarce mainly due to the availability of useful genetic engineering tools. Although many fully sequenced Arthrobacter genomes have been deposited in GenBank, little is known about the biology of their plasmids, especially the core functions: replication and partition. In this study the available Arthrobacter plasmid sequences were analyzed in order to identify their putative replication origin. At least the oris from the cryptic plasmids pXZ10142, pCG1, and pBL1 appear to work in this genus. Based on ParA homolog sequences, the Arthrobacter specific plasmids were classified into 4 clades. Iteron-like sequences were identified on most of the plasmids, indicating the position of the putative Arthrobacter specific oris. Although attempts were made to identify the core gene set required for plasmid replication in this genus, it was not possible. The plasmid proteomes showed a rather low similarity.

This study compares the colouring capacity of Brevibacterium aurantiacum (BA), Brevibacterium BL and Arthrobacter species AS in relation to deacidified media made from lactic curd (Epoisses), mixed curds (Munster) and rennet curds (Livarot or Reblochon). BA colouring capacity proved to be constant, leading to a dark orange colour, irrespective of the deacidified media. However, it gave too dark a colour for Reblochon. The strains BL and AS were not adapted to the colouring of Epoisses deacidified medium. On the Livarot or Munster deacidified medium, these two strains provided a light yellow orange colour range that was not suitable for these cheeses. However, these two strains (BL and AS) produced a suitable colour for Reblochon deacidified medium.
