Abstract We study the bending stiffness of symmetrically bent circular multilayer van der Waals (vdW) material sheets, which corresponds to the non-isometric configuration in bulge tests. Frenkel sinusoidal function is employed to describe the periodic interlayer tractions due to the lattice structure nature and the bending stiffness of sheets is theoretically extracted via an energetic consideration. Our quantitative prediction shows good agreement with recent experimental results, where the bending stiffness of different types of sheets with the comparable thickness could follow a trend opposite to their Young's moduli. Based on our model, we propose that this trend may experience a transition as the thickness decreases. Apart from the apparent effects of Young's modulus and interlayer shear strength, the interlayer distance is also found to have an important impact on the bending stiffness. In addition, according to our analysis on the size effect, the bending stiffness of such symmetrically bent circular sheets can steadily own a relatively large value, in contrast to the cases of isometric deformations.

Abstract Variation laws of earth pressure accounting for the displacement of are taining wall can be well described by mathmatical fitting in the study of the relationship between earth pressure and retaining wall displacement. The common mathematical function expressions of earth pressure displacement of retaining wall can be divided into sinusoidal function model, exponential like function model, hyperbolic function model, fitting function and semi-numerical and semi-analytical model function, etc. The characteristics and shortcomings of the current expression of earth pressure displacement function are summarized. Then combined with the field test and model test, the applicability and characteristics of various mathematical functions in predicting the displacement of earth pressure with retaining structures are analyzed. The results show that when the displacement is small, the sinusoidal function model and the quasi-exponential function model are close to the measured results. When the displacement of retaining structure is large, the fitting results of hyperbolic model and semi-numerical and semi-analytical model are better. For the prediction of earth pressure displacement relationship in passive area, the buried depth has a great influence. And the error between the theoretical value and the actual value has a great influence on the fitting result of the model.

Abstract Initial condition-dominated offset boosting provides a special channel to arrange coexisting orbits. Due to the nonlinearity and inherent periodicity, sinusoidal function is often introduced into a dynamical system for multistability design. In this paper, an initial-controlled double-scroll hyperchaotic map is constructed based on two sine functions. Four patterns of the double-scroll hyperchaotic orbits are found as 0-degree, 90-degree, 45-degree and 135-degree. Consequently, different modes for attractor growing are demonstrated. Finally, hardware experiments based on STM32 are carried out to verify the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation.

To solve the problem of the motion control of gecko-like robots in complex environments, a central pattern generator (CPG) network model of motion control was designed. The CPG oscillation model was first constructed using a sinusoidal function, resulting in stable rhythm control signals for each joint of the gecko-like robot. Subsequently, the gecko-like robot successfully walked, crossed obstacles and climbed steps in the vertical plane, based on stable rhythm control signals. Both simulations and experiments validating the feasibility of the proposed CPG motion control model are presented.

ABSTRACT In this manuscript, an interesting blue active galactic nuclei (AGNs) SDSS J154751.94+025550 (=SDSS J1547) is reported with very different line profiles of broad Balmer emission lines: double-peaked broad H β but single-peaked broad H α. SDSS J1547 is the first AGN with detailed discussions on very different line profiles of the broad Balmer emission lines, besides the simply mentioned different broad lines in the candidate for a binary black hole (BBH) system in SDSS J0159+0105. The very different line profiles of the broad Balmer emission lines can be well explained by different physical conditions to two central BLRs in a central BBH system in SDSS J1547. Furthermore, the long-term light curve from CSS can be well described by a sinusoidal function with a periodicity about 2159 d, providing further evidence to support the expected central BBH system in SDSS J1547. Therefore, it is interesting to treat different line profiles of broad Balmer emission lines as intrinsic indicators of central BBH systems in broad line AGN. Under assumptions of BBH systems, 0.125 per cent of broad-line AGN can be expected to have very different line profiles of broad Balmer emission lines. Future study on more broad line AGN with very different line profiles of broad Balmer emission lines could provide further clues on the different line profiles of broad Balmer emission lines as indicator of BBH systems.

Abstract By introducing a sinusoidal function into a three-dimensional map, a hyperchaotic map with three positive Lyapunov exponents is derived. The system has two amplitude controllers, a total controller, and a partial controller. The hyperchaotic map shares a unique structure of two-leaf and three-leaf attractors under united Lyapunov exponents. Furthermore, homogenous multistability is found in the 3-D map, where the initial data determine the attractor structure combined with the distance between any two leaves. Experimental hardware based on STM32 is built to prove the numerical findings. The hyperchaotic map is introduced for color image encryption. The analysis of key space, histogram, information entropy, correlation, and anti-noise infection shows its powerful performance in encryption and security.

In this paper, we study a memristor chaotic system with bias control. Based on the analysis of basic dynamic behavior, the hidden attractor coexistence and multi-stability of the non-equilibrium memristor chaotic system are verified, the bias control based on DC power control is studied, and the polarity control of the output variable is realized by using the change of parameters. The sinusoidal function is introduced as the bias periodic function, so that the system can realize signal polarity control only by changing the initial conditions. The analog circuit of memristor chaotic system is designed and verified by simulation..
