The main goal of this work is the evaluation of the energy saving achievable in railway drive when using the coasting technique extensively, with reference to a practical case of the Italian railway network taken as an example. This technique consists in exploiting the kinetic energy accumulated by the running train whenever possible. To implement a driving style on purpose, the only driver contribution is not enough; indeed, it is necessary to provide an embedded automatic calculation control system. In the paper, an algorithm has been developed to evaluate the energy absorption of railway locomotives during the normal service and validated on a real railway line. The proposed hardware and software system could be implemented aboard the train, allowing motion data processing in real-time. Speed, time intervals and power absorption for a given path are calculated; then, the best coasting parameters are estimated to maximize the energy savings. In particular, the case study presented in the paper showed that the fast-run strategy, always adopted by the railway company to recover an unexpected delay, can lead to a negligible time recovery with respect to the coasting strategy, while determining a significantly larger energy consumption.

The paper describes methods of formation and presentation of digital objects of various types (printed publications, archival materials, museum objects, audio and video materials) for the Digital Library “Scientific Heritage of Russia”. A digital publishing hardware and software system has been created within the framework of the digital library project. The digital publishing hardware and software system consists of five subsystems: dispatching subsystem, content description subsystem, digitization subsystem, generating digital publications subsystem and content control and storage subsystem. Dispatching subsystem organizes the work on content creation. Content description subsystem describes objects of the digital library. Digitization subsystem produces digital copies of library items, archival and museum objects. Digital publications subsystem creates the final products: digital books, 3D models, etc. Content control subsystem controls the quality of the scanned books and metadata.

It is relevant for a developer of hardware and software systems to assess the duration of development in advance and determine the main factors influencing on its success. Bulk production or bulk production with little changes can be assessed based on the experience. However, when making preliminary assessment, some factors that had not a great effect before may not be considered. The problem of developing a universal signal converter for the construction of integrated sensors in data fusion concept is solved. Considering the requirements of modern microcircuit technique, in particular for sensory devices of the Internet of Things, the signal path of the synthesized sensors is implemented based on PSoC of 5LP Family Cypress. The testing of the developed system was carried out in the process of realization the integrated sensors of thermal analysis, optoelectronics, magnetic tracking and impedance spectroscopy.
