l-menthyl acetic is an ester with specific aroma that synthesized by reaction of l-menthol and acetic anhydride and useful in fragrance industry. This paper reports influenced variation of time reaction toward ester product and characteristics l- menthyl acetic based on TLC, FTIR, GC and GC-MS. Reaction using l-menthol, acetic anhydride and catalyst H­2­SO­4­ 98 % in diethyl eter solvent at temperature 60 °C with variation of time reaction (45, 60, 75, 90, 105 minutes). The result of research is variation of time influence product with highest yield 88,43 % for 90 minutes. Monitoring TLC achived R­f­ = 0,82; analysis by FTIR achived specific wave number ester 1736,96 cm-1; analysis by GC achived t­r­ = 14,82 minutes and analysis by GC-MS achived t­r­ = 16,13 minutes with base peak m/z = 95.

Whey lactose can be esterified enzymatically by using immobilized lipase. The lipase can be isolated from Rhizopus oryzae, purified and immobilized in mesoporous aluminosilica. The use of immobilized lipase has advantages, there are longer shelf life and repeatable use. It is necessary to characterize the immobilized lipase dan ester product. The aim of the research was to characterize immobilized lipase, including determination lipase adsorption type in mesoporous aluminosilicate, immobilized lipase stability during storage time, efficiency of repetitive use of immobilized lipase. The result showed that lipase adsorption in mesoporous aluminosilicate was physical adsorption type through hydrogen bound and electrostatic interaction. Immobilized lipase stability was relatively constant at storage temperature 5 °C for 25 days resulting in 98.16% of initial activity. The repetitive use of immobilized lipase showed efficient until 5 uses within activity of 50.22%. The IR spectra of lactosyl palmitate from both whey and pure lactose result showed bands at wavelength number of 3462 cm-1(OH bond), 1739 cm-1 and 1747 (C=O ester bond) 1295 cm-1 dan 1242 cm-1 (C-O ester bond). In addition, the HLB value for lactosyl palmitate (whey) 4.708 and lactosyl palmitate (pure lactose) 4.715, therefore both lactosyl palmitate is appropriate as emulgator in W/O.   Keywords: immobilized lipase, aluminosilica, lactose, whey, lactosyl palmitate

Synthesis of alkyl monoethanolamide from palm kernel oil was done by two steps reaction that are esterification and amidation. The esterification, that is the reaction between palm kernel oil and methanol with mole ratio of 1:3 using acid catalyst (H2SO4) 4 % at temperature 60 OC for two hours, results in methyl ester palm kernel oil. The methyl ester product was produced by amidation reaction on any variation of time, temperature, catalyst, catalyst concentration and ratio of the reactan. The best result of the synthesis (amide conversion of 98.15 %) was obtained at temperature of 160 OC for 6 hours with mole ratio of methyl ester palm kernel oil to ethanol amine (ratio of the reactan) 1:1 using KOH catalyst 0.5 % and H2SO4 catalyst 0.5 %.   Keywords: alkyl mono ethanol amide, surfactant, palm kernel oil, esterification, methyl ester, emulsifier

Fyrolflex resorcinolbis-diphenylphosphate (RDP) is a nonhalogenphosphate ester product that is widely used as a flame retardant for petrochemicalplastics and high-temperature lubricant additive applications. The potential developmental toxicity of RDP was evaluated in rabbits. Groups of 27 sperm-positive New Zealand white rabbits (Hazelton Research Products Inc., Denver, PA) were administered graded concentrations of 50, 200, or 1000 mg/kg/day of RDP in corn oil. A vehicle control group of equal size was administered corn oil alone. Rabbits were dosed daily (1.5 ml/kg) on gestationdays 6 to 28 and sacrificed on gestationday 29. The fetuses were removed by cesarean section and examined for gross external, visceral, cephalic, and skeletal anomalies. No treatment-related clinical signs of toxicity were observed. No treatment-related effects in maternal food consumption, body weight, body weight gain, or on uterus, liver, kidney, and spleen weights were detected. Fetal viability and body weight, as well as developmental end points were also unaffected by treatment. Accordingly, exposure of pregnant rabbits to doses ranging from 50 to 1000 mg/kg/day of RDP during the periods of major organogenesis and histogenesis did not result in any biologically significant toxic or teratogenic/developmental effect in the dams or fetuses.
