Serotonin is crucial in gastrointestinal functions, including motility, sensitivity, secretion, and the inflammatory response. The serotonin transporter (SERT), responsible for serotonin reuptake and signaling termination, plays a prominent role in gastrointestinal physiology, representing a promising therapeutic target in digestive disorders. Serotonin transporter expression has been poorly investigated in veterinary medicine, under both healthy and pathological conditions, including canine chronic enteropathy, in which the serotonin metabolism seems to be altered. The aim of the present study was to determine the distribution of SERT immunoreactivity (SERT-IR) in the dog intestine and to compare the findings with those obtained in the rat and human intestines. Serotonin transporter-IR was observed in canine enterocytes, enteric neurons, lamina propria cells and the tunica muscularis. Data obtained in dogs were consistent with those obtained in rats and humans. Since the majority of the serotonin produced by the body is synthesized in the gastrointestinal tract, SERT-expressing cells may exert a role in the mechanism of serotonin reuptake.

The main feature of the book is the simplicity of the presentation of the subject; the author is an opponent of the complex nomenclature and confusing divisions adopted in the literature on digestive disorders in infants and making it difficult for the practitioner to familiarize himself with this department of pediatrics. In each of the two sections of the book ("dystrophies" and "diarrhea"), the etiological factors leading to the named diseases are discussed in detail, their prognosis depending on different circumstances and dietotherapy is analyzed in great detail, and the author uses only simple nutritional mixtures that are easy to make in any setting.

The literature of recent decades about the long-term consequences of partial and total resections of the stomach clearly indicates that a significant part of patients after these operations have persistent digestive disorders. The developing peculiar complex symptom complex is designated by various names: "agastral asthenia" (A. A. Busalov, M. S. Govorova), "resection disease" (G. G. Karavanov and O. V. Filts), "hyperglycemic syndrome" (OL Gordon), "hypoglycemic syndrome"; in foreign literature, the term "dumping syndrome" or "postgastrectomy syndrome" is often used.

Exposure to arsenic is common, but unconscious, inducing major imbalances especially in the digestive tract, lungs, skin. Contamination is achieved by exposure to arsenic in the air, soil, groundwater, food. It is noted the use of arsenic in pesticides, herbicides, paints, wood preservatives, drinking water, various foods with a wide range of consumption (seafood, rice – including rice milk, rice bran, rice cereals, rice syrup rice, rice crackers). The diagnosis of arsenic poisoning is an important step in establishing the diet and detoxification treatment, focusing on the cause, not the symptoms. We present the case of a 45-year-old patient with symptoms manifested in the digestive tract for 4 years: abdominal bloating, cramps, vomiting, weekly episodes of acute diarrhea. During these period the patient received multiple treatments depending on the symptoms, without a significant improvement, without performing specific investigations of arsenic poisoning. The personalized diet and treatment plan, used in the case of this patient, for a period of 4 months was distinguished by a total solution of the manifestations presented in the anamnesis stage.
