Abstract The dust temperature and mass of the supernova remnants (SNRs) in M31 are estimated by fitting the infrared spectral energy distribution calculated from the images in the Spitzer/IRAC4 and MIPS24, Herschel/PACS70, 100, and 160, and Herschel/SPIRE 250 and 350 μm bands. Twenty SNRs with relatively reliable photometry exhibit an average dust temperature of 20.1 − 1.5 + 1.8 K, which is higher than the surrounding and indicating the heating effect of supernova explosion. The dust mass of these SNRs ranges from about 100 to 800 M ⊙, much bigger than the SNRs in the Milky Way. On the other hand, this yields the dust surface density of 0.10 − 0.04 + 0.07 M ⊙ pc−2, about half of the surrounding area, which implies that about half dust in the SNRs is destroyed by the supernova explosion. The dust temperature, the radius, and thus the dust mass all demonstrate that the studied SNRs are old and very likely in the snowplow or even fade-away phase because of the limitation by the far distance and observation resolution of M31, and the results can serve as a reference to the final effect of supernova explosion on the surrounding dust.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa), a flowering plant in the ginger family, is widely used as a food coloring in curry powder. Turmeric has long been used in both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine an anti-inflammatory, to treat digestive disorders and liver problems. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which have been the various medicinal properties. To extract the curcumin, best variety should be selected. The ultimate aim of any programme is to obtain the high yield with quality and studies like correlation and path coefficient analysis to understand the association different characters and their final effect on the yield. The present study was attempted in this direction to analyze the association of different character on yield in Turmeric.

Endometrial cancer is one of the leading gynecological cancers diagnosed among women in their menopausal and postmenopausal age. Despite the progress in molecular biology and medicine, no efficient and powerful diagnostic and prognostic marker is dedicated to endometrial carcinogenesis. The canonical TGFβ pathway is a pleiotropic signaling cascade orchestrating a variety of cellular and molecular processes, whose alterations are responsible for carcinogenesis that originates from different tissue types. This review covers the current knowledge concerning the canonical TGFβ pathway (Smad-dependent) induced by prototypical TGFβ isoforms and the involvement of pathway alterations in the development and progression of endometrial neoplastic lesions. Since Smad-dependent signalization governs opposed cellular processes, such as growth arrest, apoptosis, tumor cells growth and differentiation, as well as angiogenesis and metastasis, TGFβ cascade may act both as a tumor suppressor or tumor promoter. However, the final effect of TGFβ signaling on endometrial cancer cells depends on the cancer disease stage. The multifunctional role of the TGFβ pathway indicates the possible utilization of alterations in the TGFβ cascade as a potential target of novel anticancer strategies.

The article presents the results of research on the influence of enzymatic and oxidizing agents on polymers used in drilling mud technology. The research used calcium hypochlorite, urea peroxide, sodium persulfate, amylase and cellulase. This allowed us to determine the optimal concentrations of these agents in order to reduce the rheological parameters of drilling muds. The ability of enzymes and oxidants to decompose colloids used in the composition of drilling muds was determined on the basis of measurements of their rheological parameters and the influence of oxidants and enzymes on the properties of filter cakes. The final effect of the presented research was the development of a drilling mud treatment method before the cementing procedure and the development of washer fluids containing enzymatic or oxidizing agents to be used to prepare the borehole for the cementing procedure. The drilling muds selected for the research contained starch and cellulose polymer colloids, which allowed for the selection of appropriate agents depending on the type of polymer set used in the drilling mud. Positive results were obtained regarding the possibility of thinning the drilling mud immediately before cementing, as well as the possibility of using oxidants and enzymes in the composition of washer fluids.

This meta-analysis aims to update and improve upon a previous attempt at understanding the effects neonicotinoids have on non-target terrestrial arthropods. While the original authors carried out sufficient analysis on the data they collected, there are new methodologies that can improve the accuracy of the final effect sizes produced. This new meta-analysis will use a multi-level approach, meaning that it will not consider data to be independent from the studies they were collected from. Instead the data and subsequent effect sizes will be nested within the studies, allowing for a truer effect size to be synthesised.

This chapter grapples with the vexed issue of protection at sea, unpacking destination States’ practices of interdiction and their justification on purported humanitarian grounds. After introducing the rules governing interdiction powers and the obligation to render assistance to persons in distress, it problematizes the instrumentalization of maritime rescue, based on the supposed benevolent effect of ‘stopping the boats’ as a means to ‘save lives’. Two competing yet complementary dynamics are detected and critiqued. First, while destination States inflate their policing competence through reliance on rescue rhetoric and intervene beyond prerogatives explicitly recognized in the law of the sea, they tend to maintain minimalistic constructions of the associated concepts of ‘distress’ or ‘place of safety’ to reduce the scope of their legal responsibilities. Thus, secondly, they deflate their rescue duties and detach them from related international protection obligations, either by deflecting them to third countries or by negating them altogether. Drawing on examples from the US Caribbean interdiction programme, the Australian ‘Pacific Strategy’, and the mare clausum approach favoured in the Mediterranean, the chapter traces the shift from direct to indirect forms of interdiction, increasingly performed by third countries or private actors, culminating in practices of interdiction by omission, which not only tolerate but purposively embed the risk of death as part of the migration control toolbox of destination States. The final effect is one that paradoxically transforms rescue into an interdiction tool that denies access to asylum to ‘boat migrants’.

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background Radiofrequency catheter ablation of superior paraseptal ganglionic plexus is an important step to eliminate the vagal modulation of sinus node for the treatment of neurally-mediated syncope. The reasonable effect can be achieved by targeting this plexus from the endocardial aspect of both right (RA) and left (LA) atria. Purpose We investigated the efficacy of RA and LA ablation in terms of sinus nodal denervation. Methods The study included 24 patients (age: 42 ± 13 years, 50% males) who underwent cardioneuroablation for recurrent cardioinhibitory syncope in general anesthesia. Right atrial semicircular lesion at the posteroseptal quadrant of superior vena cava ostium was composed of 5-6 equidistantly distributed ablation sites (30 W, 30 s, 20 ml/min).  Left atrial lesion of comparable size was placed strictly contralaterally across the interatrial septum in the anterior vestibulum of a right superior pulmonary vein. Patients were randomly (1:1) assigned to RA-to-LA or LA-to-RA ablation. Sinus rate and the response to extracardiac right vagal nerve high-frequency stimulation (50 Hz, 0.05 ms, 1 V/kg [<70V], 5 s) were recorded at baseline and after each ablation cluster. Results Study protocol ablations overall resulted in sinus acceleration (81 ± 13 vs. 59 ± 12 bpm, P <0.0001) and attenuation of inducible sinus arrests (maximum pause: 1.2 ± 1.4 vs. 5.5 ± 3.0 s, P <0.0001). Temporal development of outcome measures with the progression of ablation is shown in the Figure. There was no significant difference between study groups. Irrespective of ablation order, the first ablation cluster on average generated 77% of the final effect on sinus rate and 68% of the final effect on suppression of vagally-induced sinus pauses.   Conclusions  Neither RA nor LA approach is preferable for targeting the superior paraseptal ganglionic plexus. Both ablation clusters convey complementary and, in part, mutually independent effects. Biatrial cardioneuroablation seems essential for efficacious sinus nodal denervation. Abstract Figure.

This paper investigates two vowel devoicing processes in Cheyenne, which appear on the surface to be fundamentally different, occurring in distinct segmental and prosodic environments. One process occurs in phrase-final vowels in any segmental environment, while the other occurs only before voiceless consonants in the surface penultimate vowels of some words. The first is consistent with typological expectations and is phonetically grounded, whereas the second is at first glance, neither typologically expected nor phonetically motivated. I provide a unified Stratal Optimality Theory account of these processes, demonstrating that both can, in fact, be treated as cases of domain-final devoicing, and attributed to the same family of positional markedness constraints. Different rankings of the markedness constraints relative to a faithfulness constraint result in different segmental conditions for the two processes. Moreover, I suggest that the two processes may be related via Domain Generalization, whereby a phonetically motivated utterance-final effect phonologizes and extends to smaller prosodic domains. In this way, while the word-level process is not itself phonetically motivated, it can be understood as an extension of another phonetically motivated process in the same language.

Teaming up. The Contribution of Human Factor to the French Success of Zygmunt Miłoszewski The article is based on the assumptions of Translator Studies raised by Andrew Chesterman, who proposed translation researchers to put morefocus on the author of translation [2009: 20]. This perspective is further enriched with the concept of the “manufacture” of translation, in which translation is perceived as a multi-stage and collective process including several agents [Buzelin 2007: 141]. The starting point for the case study presented in the article is the unprecedented popularity won by four Zygmunt Miłoszewski’s novels translated into French and published in the years 2013-2017. The assumed reason of this success lies in the exceptionally favourable configuration ofthe human factor, which consists primarily of the activity of the translator of all the novels, Kamil Barbarski, but also actions undertaken by the French publisher or, finally, the author himself. The article attempts to reconstruct this process in chronological order, taking into account the contribution of each of the above-mentioned subjects to the final effect, which is not only the recognition of Miłoszewski himself, but also the broadly defined promotion of Polish literature in France.

The shaping process of surface texture is complicated and depends on many factors and phenomena accompanying them. This article presents the author’s test stand for the measurement of relative displacements in a tool–workpiece system during longitudinal turning. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of edge radius on the relative displacement between the tool and workpiece. The cutting process was carried out with inserts with different edge radii for X37CrMoV5-1 steel. As a result of the research, vibration charts of the tool–workpiece system were obtained. In the range of feed 0.03–0.18 mm/rev, the values of the standard deviation of relative displacements in the x-axis were obtained in the range of 0.36–0.78 μm for the insert with an edge radius of rn = 48.8 μm. As a result of the work, it was determined that for the feed value of 0.12 mm/rev for all inserts, the relative displacements are the smallest. As the final effect, the formula for forecasting the Ra roughness parameter was presented.
