Students nowadays grow up with electronic devices and are adept at navigating the virtual world. Practical activities may be more of a novelty for them than simulations. Using the topic of electric circuits as a context, we examined the ways in which Grade 11 students perceived and learned from practical work and simulations, respectively. In this quasi-experiment study, a group of 19 students used a free online simulations package “Circuit Construction Kit,” while another group of 17 students learnt through practical work. We administered a validated instrument to both groups and found that practical work and simulations supported students’ learning in similar ways. The interventions were then reversed so that all participants experienced both practical work and simulations. Finally, seven students from each group were selected for a group interview. Through the interviews, we identified features of simulations and practical work respectively that students believed contributed to their learning.

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental illness that affects the brain and causes impaired thinking perceptions, emotions, movement, and strange behavior. The problem is getting higher Schizophrenia is characterized by positive symptoms and negative. And of the symptoms of schizophrenia are often encountered are hallucinations. Hallucination is a state of a person experiencing a change in the pattern and amount of stimulation initiated internally or externally to any stimulation. Treatment for hallucinations takes a long time. In general, patient behavior is difficult to be directed hallucinations. They tend to be inexpensive bored and lazy to do taking medication is the degree to which patients follow the advice of the treating physician. Quasi Experiment study design pre-post test. The total population in this study 323 patients who were identified based on the estimate (approximate) so that the number of samples of 20 patients with a 10% drop out so that the sample to 18 patients and a total sample of 18 patients. The results using Paired T-Test (Test T dependent) that shows health education adherence to changing client hallucinations in schizophrenia symptoms (0.009). This means that there is an influence of health education adherence to changing client hallucinations in schizophrenia symptoms.

A quasi-experiment study correlated to the effectiveness of the use of the M-Prayer Robot Module in learning and facilitation of fard prayers entails the researcher to set the sample size based on the study population. Nonetheless, as a novice researcher, the researcher needs to set the number of samples based on academic materials related to the actual number of samples required in the quasi-experiment. Hence, this study centred on the search for scientific materials related to the number of relevant samples used in quasi-experiment studies in education. This research was a qualitative study using document analysis methods. The results of the study concluded that the determination of the number of samples required in the quasi-experiment study depends on the reference source employed. Ergo, this study used a power analysis table to determine the number of samples. This study is beneficial as an introductory guide for novice researchers who manage quasi-experiment studies to determine the number of samples required in their study.

Abstract There is a growing body of research indicating that drones can disturb animals. However, it is usually unclear whether the disturbance is due to visual or auditory cues. Here, we examined the effect of drone flights on the behavior of great dusky swifts Cypseloides senex and white-collared swifts Streptoprocne zonaris in 2 breeding sites where drone noise was obscured by environmental noise from waterfalls and any disturbance must be largely visual. We performed 12 experimental flights with a multirotor drone at different vertical, horizontal, and diagonal distances from the colonies. From all flights, 17% caused <1% of birds to temporarily abandon the breeding site, 50% caused half to abandon, and 33% caused more than half to abandon. We found that the diagonal distance explained 98.9% of the variability of the disturbance percentage and while at distances >50 m the disturbance percentage does not exceed 20%, at <40 m the disturbance percentage increase to > 60%. We recommend that flights with a multirotor drone during the breeding period should be conducted at a distance of >50 m and that recreational flights should be discouraged or conducted at larger distances (e.g. 100 m) in nesting birds areas such as waterfalls, canyons, and caves.

Abstract Background: Breastfeeding is critical to promote maternal and child health in a short and long term. China has set national targets to further improve the exclusive breastfeeding rate. We aimed to examine associations between the provision of Early Essential Newborn Care (EENC) and breastfeeding outcomes among full-term vaginally delivered neonates in the first six months of life. Methods: We conducted a quasi-experiment study in eight maternal and children’s hospitals in Mianyang City and Deyang City in Sichuan Province of western China. Four hospitals were randomly selected as the intervention group with the implementation of EENC while others as the control group receiving routine care. We assessed effects of EENC on breastfeeding initiation time, duration of first-time breastfeeding, and exclusive breastfeeding rates up to six months of age. Data in both groups were collected after delivery, at hospital discharge, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post birth in the baseline phase and post-EENC phase. Written consent was obtained from eligible mothers enrolled in this study. We performed univariate analyses to ascertain differences between the two groups, and difference in difference (DID) models to explore the net effects. Results: Of the 1349 enrolled mother and newborn pairs in our study, 1131 were followed up at 1 month of age, 1075 at 3 months, and 981 at 6 months. EENC was associated with earlier median time to initiate breastfeeding (25min vs. 33min, P<0.01), an increased chance of successful first-time breastfeeding (OR=5.534; 95% CI: 2.687-11.399), longer duration of skin to skin contact (SSC) (21.529 min; 95% CI: 18.171-24.887) and longer duration of the first breastfeed (4.157 min; 95% CI: 2.098-6.217), and an increased likelihood of being exclusively breastfed at discharge (74.5% vs. 55.0%, P<0.001), 3 months (OR=3.197; 95% CI: 1.008-10.144), and 6 months (OR=4.913; 95% CI: 1.709-14.130) of age. Conclusions: EENC enhances early and successful breastfeeding initiation, prolongs duration of the first breastfeed, and increases the rate of exclusive breastfeeding at six months of age. Our evidence suggests that nation wide scale up of EENC would increase the exclusive breastfeeding rate in the first six months of life.

Background: Commercial insecticides were widely used by communities to control the mosquito population in their houses. D-allethrin is one of insecticide ingredients widely distributed in two different concentrations namely 0.15% of aerosol and 0.3% of coil formulations. We aimed to understand the mortality of indoor mosquitoes after being exposed to d-allethrin 0.15% (aerosol) and 0.3% (coil) formulations. Methods: This quasi-experiment study applied the posttest-only comparison group design. The aerosol and coil d-allethrin were used to expose the wild mosquitoes in twelve dormitory bedrooms of SMKN Jawa Tengah, a vocational high school belonging to Central Java Provincial Government, on March 2017. The compounds were exposed for 60 min to each bedroom with four-week interval for both of formulations. The knockdown mosquitoes were collected into a plastic cup and delivered to the laboratory for 24h holding, morphologically species identification and mortality recording. History of insecticide use in the dormitory was recorded by an interview with one student in each bedroom. Data were statistically analyzed with independent sample t-test and Mann-Whitney. Results: As many as 57 knockdown mosquitoes belonging to three species were obtained namely Culex fuscocephala, Cx. quinquefasciatus and Aedes aegypti with mortality rate of 50.88% after 24h holding. Knockdown and mortality of mosquitoes were significantly different based on d-allethrin formulations. D-allethrin concentrations were not effective for controlling Culex mosquitoes but effective for Ae. aegypti. Conclusion: Further efficacy of d-allethrin 0.15% aerosol to eradicate Ae. aegypti is necessary to be conducted in supporting the Dengue vector control.

Sexuality is one of the most important components of a person's quality of life. Postpartum is the period when women experienced problems in their sexual lives. This study aimed to prove the effects of pelvic floor muscle (PFM) exercise on sexual self-efficacy among primiparous women. This research was a quasi-experiment study with one group time series design, with the number of respondents 32 people. The results showed that the intervention of pelvic floor muscle exercise which performed for six weeks proved to increase the sexual self-efficacy of primiparous mother significantly (p = 0,001; CI 95% 10,53 – 14,18). PFM exercise is the best way to increase pelvic floor muscle strength that positively affects the enhancement of sexual self-efficacy of primiparous women. It is recommended that PFM exercise become a nursing intervention that should be explained and taught by nurses as a form of postpartum care education. Keywords: PFM exercise, sexual self-efficacy.
