One of the common arguments to justify the traditional arrangement to marry off daughters in rural Bangladesh is that through this procedure they get a secured life under their husband’s supervision. It is a well-known proposition that if parents really care about daughters, searching for a bridegroom from a well-off family is the best option. Typically, daughters’ families mainly the father arrange such marriage, and the girl’s consent is hardly taken into account. However, I argue this traditional system values only girls’ caregiving and reproductive roles, ignoring all other life-affirming values. If daughters are not free to decide whether to marry or not to marry, their autonomy as human beings are violated. Moreover, considering marriage as a responsibility shifting process could objectify and commodify women in such a way that would destroy potentials to flourish life and make them a victim of violence. There are strong theoretical and empirical reasons to believe that the entire procedure of marriage is ethically blameworthy and detrimental for women. Sufficient ground can be found to put more priority on developing daughters’ competency to make them economically and socially independent so that they can choose when to marry, whom to marry or not to marry.

The article substantiates the quantity and type of tire size for a dump truck with a carrying capacity from 90 to 130 tons. Types of tire sizes for dump trucks are given, as well as an analysis of applicable tires for dump trucks. An example of tire configuration for a dump truck is described, as well as the differences between projects and dump trucks with the traditional arrangement of large tires. The working productivity of large tires was cal- culated using the TKH “tons per kilometer per hour” technique. The general tasks that need to be addressed when designing a dump truck are highlighted. The conclusion is made on the relevance of the development of scientifically based approaches when designing dump trucks. The above data indicate that when surface mining, it is possible to solve the economic problem of reduc- ing the operating costs of transporting minerals by applying the proposed arrangement and number of large tires when designing new dump trucks, including robotic and unmanned ones.

Inverted-T bridge caps (ITBCs) have been widely used in most bridges in Texas in recent years. In some typical cases, the bridge caps are skew when two roads are not aligned in a perpendicular manner. The traditional method of flaring the transverse reinforcement out in skew ITBCs introduces significant complexity in design and during construction. An alternative is to provide skew reinforcing which will substantially reduce the design complexities and construction period. In this paper, three ITBC specimens were subjected to shear action to evaluate and compare the performance of ITBCs with traditional reinforcing with those with skew reinforcing. The three specimens include 0-degree skew, 30-degree skew with traditional reinforcing, and 30-degree skew with skew reinforcing, worthy of verification and quantification as demonstrated in this paper. The physical test results show that the skew reinforcement arrangement does not weaken the bridge cap’s capacity, and the structural performance remains almost the same as that of the traditional arrangement. In addition, the serviceability performance of skew reinforcements is better as compared with traditional reinforcements.

There are two possible futures for the professions. The first is reassuringly familiar. It is a more efficient version of what we already have today. On this model, professionals continue working much as they have done since the middle of the nineteenth century, but they heavily standardize and systematize their routine activities. They streamline their old ways of working. The second future is a very different proposition. It involves a transformation in the way that the expertise of professionals is made available in society. The introduction of a wide range of increasingly capable systems will, in various ways, displace much of the work of traditional professionals. In the short and medium terms, these two futures will be realized in parallel. In the long run, the second future will dominate, we will find new and better ways to share expertise in society, and our professions will steadily be dismantled. That is the conclusion to which this book leads. The first step in our argument involves taking stock of the professions we currently have. We do this, in this opening chapter, to provide a foundation of solid thinking about the professions—about their purpose and common features, their strengths and weaknesses—upon which we build later. We start by sketching an informal portrait of today’s professions. We follow this with a more systematic attempt to explain which occupational groups belong to the professions and why. We then discuss the history of the professions and look at the ‘grand bargain’, the traditional arrangement that grants professionals both their special status and their monopolies over numerous areas of human activity. Next, we reflect on various theoretical accounts of the professions, which leads us to identify a series of fundamental problems with our professions as currently organized. We close with a call for a new mindset, and point to a series of biases that are likely to inhibit professionals from thinking freely about their future. To set off at an easy pace, we begin with a set of non-theoretical, everyday views about the professions. On reflection, most people would say that the professions are at the heart of our social and working lives.

ABSTRACT Landscape Design Concept of Faculty of Agriculture Welcome Area in Udayana University Jimbaran Campus, Bali Campus is an area which multi-segment interactions will be taking place, the landscape situation has to manage to create a fine condition and gain good quality of education inside. As a front yard area which will be passed through by everybody who wants to come inside the campus welcome area has to raise any good impression and able to support the students requirement area to do their campus activities. This research has purpose to create a concept of landscape design of welcome area which has values of aesthetic, functional,  and creating landscape identity of faculty of agriculture the University of Udayana.  This researh has four steps: site measuring, inventaritation, analysis and syntesis, and creating the concepts. The concept of design is formal with Bali traditional arrangement. The concept will aplicate some principals of design such as balance, proportion, repetation, scale, and use shapes streinght and simetry. The concept of space create from Balinese local traditional wisdom the Tri Hita Karana (three source of happiness). The final products are concept plan and some drawings of 3D ilustration. Design concept with traditional Bali arragement wish to be aplicated by all of institution in the University of Udayana to create a unity of landscape which based on Bali local wishdom. Keywords: bali, campus, landscape design, udayana, welcome area

Nowadays market demand for storage racks are becoming larger and larger in China, especially in logistics industry. Hold-welding beams are important components in storage racks, and searching for more reasonable solder joint arrangements on them is a problem. On the basis of traditional arrangement, this paper came up with another five schemes with differences in solder joint numbers and location. Then ANSYS was used to analyze the mechanical behavior of the beam in every scheme. According to the numerical analysis results, the most reasonable scheme was recommended.

Summary In Qing China (1644–1911), many bilingual dictionaries of Manchu and Chinese were compiled to serve the needs of a multilingual empire. They were largely forgotten in the 20th century. In the 1970s, government initiatives to organize and research the historical heritage meant greater interaction with the Manchu language of the millions of Qing administrative documents still extant. Several projects to compile Manchu-Chinese dictionaries were thus undertaken, leading to the simultaneous publication of several titles in the early 1990s. The new Manchu dictionaries appealed to the Qing lexicographical tradition in their arrangement. By comparing the organization of two recent Manchu dictionaries, compiled respectively by An Shuangcheng (b.1942) and Hu Zengyi (b.1936), two scholars based in Beijing, this paper reveals that although no one pointed it out, the allegedly traditional arrangement in fact differed substantially between dictionaries.

In recent years, manufacturers of centrifugal blowers for ventilation systems have abandoned the traditional arrangement of radial vanes shown in Fig. 1(a) for the “backward-aerofoil” arrangement shown in Fig. 1(b), which is the same as a conventional centrifugal water pump. Unlike the older type, the aerofoil-type blower does not depend on “centrifugal force” to produce a pressure rise despite the misleading accounts given in some hydraulics textbooks (the circumferential component of the air velocity is zero at entry and small at exit) although it does depend on the increase in blade peripheral velocity from the entry to the exit (which explains the curious blade arrangement).
