Seerah of the Prophet falls mainly under Orientalist studies evolving from an early skeptical normative to revisionism, higher criticism, biblical literary criticism and Hagarism. This perpetual change of Western academic methodology seems to indicate their fragile and non-traditional academic approach. The Orientalists like Goldziher and Schacht have been able to transform skeptical theories considerably to the extent ‘revisionist’ theories have emerged. In this paper, a critical review of modern Western critique has been discussed while conjecturing about its lacunas at the same time.

While writing about the sacred law of Islam, Joseph Schacht expresses his concerns and doubts about the origins of Islamic law calling it Muhammadan Jurisprudence. He believed that Islamic law is not a Divine law and that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had no role as a legislator. Schacht’s writings influenced many Western scholars, many of whom subscribe to his thesis. This paper discusses Schacht’s approach towards Islamic law which he calls Muhammadan jurisprudence and continues to analyze his assumption that Islamic Law does not recognize the term right, comparing it with thoughts and opinions of other scholars and mentioning evidences brought forth by both the parties.

The current paper aims to provide the venue to the spiritual insights of Ghazalian thought to be integrated into the study of Freudian psychoanalysis. The study has adopted descriptive and analytical approach to make a comparative analysis of Ghazalian concept of nafs e lawwamma and Freudian superego.  Zepetnek’s (1998) theory of comparative literature has provided the guidelines for an in depth analysis of both the models.  This analytical approach may lead to an alternative critical agenda for the better understanding of human psyche. Moreover, the present study emanates from the assumption that though Freudian psychoanalytic theory has provided insightful psychological considerations, equally appropriate readings will possibly result from analyzing Ghazalian theory of soul. Simultaneously, it is also hoped that the insights yielded by this research study may open new panoramas for the study of human nature.

The main objective of this research paper is to highlight that Islam gives equal opportunities to women socially, politically and economically. She has equal rights as a social and political individual in a Muslim society. Islam upholds a segregated work-sphere for women i.e. it takes into account her physique, self-respect, modesty and protection and rather offers a privileged status. Women have taken part in all spheres of life in the early Islamic era which testifies to the progressive and modern approach of Islam.
