Integrated Analysis in Geography: The Way to Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is a new breed of service offered over the Internet, which has completely changed the way one can use the power of computers irrespective of geographic location. It has brought in new avenues for organizations and businesses to offer services using hardware or software or platform of third party sources, thus saving on cost and maintenance. It can transform the way systems are built and services delivered, providing libraries with an opportunity to extend their impact. Cloud computing has become a major topic of discussion and debate for any business or organization which relies on technology. Anyone connected to the Internet is probably using some type of cloud computing on a regular basis. Whether they are using Google’s Gmail, organizing photos on Flickr, or searching the Web with Bing, they are engaged in cloud computing. In this chapter, an attempt has been made to give an overview of this technology, its connection with libraries, the models in which libraries can deploy this technology for providing services and augment the productivity of library staff and case studies.

As a new IT paradigm for users, cloud computing has the potential to transform the way that IT resources are utilized and consumed. Many multinational enterprises (MNEs) are interested in cloud computing but do not know how to adopt and implement cloud computing in their enterprise settings. In an effort to help MNEs understand cloud computing and develop successful enterprise adoption strategies for cloud computing, the authors propose a hybrid cloud model for MNEs and illustrate the utility of this model by using two case studies. Insights for adopting and implementing this model in international settings are provided as well.

The maturity of free and open source movement has brought a number of ICT tools. It has affected the way courses are delivered, the way contents are developed, the way data are interoperable, the way learning and teaching materials are shared, the way learners access classes and the way library resources are shared. In developing countries, several libraries are migrating into digital libraries using low cost technologies readily available due to open access, free and open source technology and e-publishing tools. Recent development of cloud computing technology provides state of art tools for libraries. It provides a common platform for easy information storage and sharing. Thus, there is lowering of the cost required to procure and manage library ICT infrastructure due to the capability of that cloud computing which allows the storage to be on a single, efficient system that saves cost and time. In developing countries where most libraries suffer from limited budgets for ICT services, it is anticipated that the future of digital libraries is on cloud libraries.

Cloud computing is a paradigm which has changed the way organizations develop, manage, and deploy their applications. Most of the resources are available at low costs in this technology and it creates new opportunities for organizations to move their existing applications to the cloud for modernization. But this modernization also comes at a price. The authors present a model-driven approach to address the challenges in application modernization and focus on the application migration to cloud. Most of the cloud applications are very specific to a particular vendor's features or services. The proposed methodology addresses the challenge of vendor lock-in also. The authors present their theoretical details and experience with two pilot projects where they have applied the proposed approach.

In the last decade cloud computing transformed the way in which we build applications. The boom in cloud computing helped to develop new software design and architecture. Helping the developers to focus more on the business logic than the infrastructure. FaaS (function as a service) compute model it gave developers to concentrate only on the application code and rest of the factors will be taken care by the cloud provider. Here we present a serverless architecture of a web application built using AWS services and provide detail analysis of lambda function and micro service software design implemented using these AWS services.

Cloud computing has made a significant transformation of information technology environment as well as the way the business is conducted in any organizations. While its advantages are obvious, its challenges need to be clearly addressed to ensure successful adoption. This article provides an insights of cloud computing adoption in Malaysia at the national level as well as a review of cloud adoption from various fields and domains in Malaysia which led to research direction in the future. Malaysia is being dedicated towards cloud adoption nationally, and keep its good progress to equip itself as a cloud-friendly country. However, security challenges seem to slow down the effort, thus these need to be dealt with properly.

High-performance computing is changing the way we compute. In the past decade, the cloud computing paradigm has changed the way we compute, communicate, and technology. Cover real-world problems. There are still many complex challenges in the cloud computing paradigm. Improving effective planning strategies is a complex problem in the service-oriented computing paradigm.In this article, our research focuses on improving task scheduler strategies to improve the performance of cloud applications. The proposed model is inspired by an artificial neural network-based system and astrology base scheduler Big-Bang Big-Crunch. The results show that the proposed strategy based on BBBC and neural network is superior to the method based on astrology (BigBang BigCrunch costaware), genetic cost and many other existing methods.The proposed BB-BC-ANN model is validated using standard workload file (San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) Blue Horizon logs). The results show that the proposed BB-BC-ANN model performs better than some of the existing approaches using performance indicators like total completion time (ms), average start time (ms), average finish time(ms), scheduling time(ms), and total execution time(ms).
