Study on the purification and quality test of used cooking oil with turmeric has been done. This study aims to determine the quality of cooking oil after purified turmeric. The quality parameters of oil studied were the moisture content, free fatty acids (FFA), and peroxide. The methods used for determination of these parameters were gravimetry for moisture content, acid-base titration for free fatty acids, and iodometric for peroxide. The test results for water from 0.6% to 0.4% free fatty acid from 1.2% to 0.2%, and peroxide levels before and after purification were successively from and 6 meq/g to 4 meq/g, respectively. Only free fatty acids of all three parameters met the requirement of SNI.

Moisture content and water activity are important parameters for quality characterizationof products like bulk materials, powders, granules. Thus, an exact determination is necessarilyrequired in a wide range of industrial applications. Moisture of materials is the content ofnon-chemically bound water in a solid or liquid. Water activity (aw) is a characteristic/parameter ofthe non-chemically bound (“free”) water in materials and is measured as humidity over asolid/liquid surface at constant temperature (equilibrium moisture content). It is an importantparameter to characterize the quality of e.g., pharmaceutical and food products. In ourcontribution, we present the developed MOISHUM device for staged determination of wateractivity and moisture content of liquid and solid materials.

The quality of composite materials based on natural fibres is highly influence by humidity content of the fibres. For a high product quality in the resin-transfer-moulding (RTM) process a constant humidity content has to be achieved. As the humidity content of the fibres can change relative quickly depending on the humidity, measuring humidity content in the mould is beneficial. Near-Infrared-Spectroscopy (NIR) is a widely used tool for humidity content measurement allowing determination of the moisture content within seconds. To do so a calibration model with good accuracy is required. To generate the calibration model a dry flax woven fabric is placed in a climate chamber and weight change is recorded as well as NIR-Spectra. By correlating the spectra with the weight increase a model can be developed allowing to assign the spectra with unknown weight. This allows not only monitoring the moisture content of natural fibres with in the mould. Also can the moisture content reduced to an aspired value by applying vacuum to the preheated mould, before starting the resin infusion.

Dried whole egg powders, obtained from three different manufacturers, were adjusted to contain from 2 to 8.5% moisture, and held at temperatures ranging from 7.1° to 43.3 °C. Quality was assessed by determination of the fluorescence, potassium chloride, and refractometric values.Temperature was the most important single factor studied in affecting the keeping quality of dried egg. However, at all temperatures the rate of deterioration increased with increase in the moisture content. To maintain quality during storage and transport, dried egg should contain not more than 5% moisture and preferably 2% or less.

ABSTRACT The determination of moisture content gradients is one of the most important steps for assessing the quality of wood drying. The general aim of this work was to study the quality of air-dried teakwood boards according to the gradients of moisture content in thickness and length. Six representative boards (40 × 180 × 2,300 mm) were sampled from a stack air-dried under shelter, divided into 30 equal parts in length and measured with a resistance moisture meter, resulting in four treatments: two depths (1/4 and 1/2 thickness) and two surfaces (inner and outer) of measurement. As main results, we can conclude that the air-drying quality can be considered good, mainly for two reasons: i) the average moisture content gradients in thickness were comparable to those reported in literature for kiln-drying of less thick boards; ii) the range of average moisture content among boards (2.5 p.p.) was satisfactory for a drying process carried out without environment control. Length moisture content gradient was completely different from that reported in literature, in which no board tops had smaller moisture content than the parts comprehended in between the tops.

This work aimed to evaluate the effect of different priming treatments in the longevity of H. serratifolius seeds. Seeds were osmo-conditioned in PEG -1.0 MPa at 10, 15 and 20°C or hydro-primed at 5, 10 and 15°C. Final germination, speed and uniformity of germination were assessed. Priming did not affect the final percentage nor uniformity of germination; however, the germination speed was increased after hydropriming at 15°C and osmo-conditioning at 15°C compared to the control. Primed and not primed seeds were placed into an incubator (25°C, dark, 100% RH) until they reached 15% moisture content. Then, seeds were incubated in a container at 40°C for 0 to 144 hours, so, samples were taken in each period for determination of viability. The results suggest that priming increases longevity of H. serratifolius seeds.

One that influences human resource indicators is education. The teacher is a profession as a job of academic specialization in a relatively long time in college. Understanding related to teacher competence is very important to have by a prospective teacher because it can affect the quality of performance as a professional teacher. The teacher's competence is known as pedagogic, professional, social and personality competencies. The issue in this study is how the competency of the teacher of the Department of Geography Education FKIP Unsyiah as a prospective teacher of geography? The purpose of this study was to determine the competence of teachers in the Department of Geography Education FKIP Unsyiah as prospective geography teachers. Quantitative description approach is used in this study to find answers to the issue. The population in this study were students of the Department of Geography Education FKIP Unsyiah class of 2015 and 2016 who had been declared to have passed the Micro Teaching and Magang Kependidikan 3 course totaling 50 people. Because the population is small and can be reached, the determination of the sample using total sampling techniques so that the sample in this study is the whole population. Data collection is done by distributing test questions to respondents. The data was analyzed using the descriptive statistics percentage formula. The results of the study indicate that the level of teacher competence of Geography Education Department students as prospective teachers is in the moderate category, namely as many as 22 respondents (44%). A total of 12 respondents (24%) were in the high category, 15 respondents (30%) were in the low category and 1 respondent (2%) were in the very low category.
