Abstract The paper presents the construction and operation of a video sensor developed for video-manometer. In the publication the use of video-manometer for measuring gas pressure is presented. A characteristic feature of the device is pressure measurement based on diaphragm deformation and digital image processing. Presented measuring technique eliminates restrictions in the construction of the measuring apparatus arising from non-linear nature of diaphragm deformation. It also allows performing measurements of gas pressure, also of explosive gas, providing galvanic isolation between the factor measured and the measuring device. The paper presents the results of video-manometer calibration and measurements taken during the laboratory tests. It has been shown that the developed video-manometer, that is equipped with a flat silicone diaphragm, allows measuring the gas pressure in the range of 0 – 100 mbar with an error less than 2 %. In the experiments the CO2 pressure was measured.

The accuracy of automated parking technology that uses ultrasonic radar or camera vision for obstacles and parking space identification can easily be affected by the surrounding environment especially when the color of the obstacles is similar to the ground. Additionally, this type of system cannot recognize the size of the obstacles detected. This paper proposes a method to identify parking spaces and obstacles based on visual sensor and laser device recognition methods by installing a laser transmitter on the car. The laser transmitter produces a checkerboard-shaped laser grid (mesh), which varies with the condition encountered on the ground, which is then captured by the camera and taken as the region of interest for the necessary image processing. The experimental results show that this method can effectively identify obstacles as well as their size and parking spaces even when the obstacles and the background have a similar color compared to when only using sensors or cameras alone.

This paper presents a vision-based curve-shaped seam tracking system. The measurement of the curve trajectory is based on a camera that is installed ahead of the end effector of the robot. Effective image processing method is designed to extract the feature points of the curve. Then a fuzzy controller is proposed to control the position of the robot to track the curve. To improve the performance of the controller, a self-tuning mechanism is added to the controller. Finally, experiments are fully conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Purpose – This paper aims to solve the problem that the changing of groove size and assembly gap would affect the precision of the multi-pass path planning and the welding quality and realize the automatic welding of a thick plate. Design/methodology/approach – First, a double-sided double arc welding (DSAW) system with a self-designed passive vision sensor was established, then the image of the groove was captured and the characteristic parameters of groove were extracted by image processing. According to the welding parameters and the extracted geometry size, multi-pass path planning was executed by the DSAW system. Findings – A DSAW system with a self-designed passive vision sensor was established which can realize the welding thick plate by double-sided double arc by two robots. The clear welding image of the groove was acquired, and an available image processing algorithm was proposed to accurately extract the characteristic parameters of the groove. According to the welding parameters and the extracted geometry size, multi-pass path planning can be executed by the DSAW system automatically. Originality/value – Gas metal arc welding is used for root welding and filler passes in DSAW. Multi-pass path planning for thick plate by Double-sided Double Arc Welding (DSAW) based on vision sensor was proposed.

This paper presents a concrete multi-functional application of Wide-Angle Foveated Vision Sensor (WAFVS) in which a special optical lens, designed by mimicking the human eye, plays a major role. The author has conducted experiments of obstacle avoidance in mobile robot navigation. 3D information of obstacles and locational information of mobile robot, which are characterized by the lens property, are acquired from central vision with high accuracy and peripheral vision with fewer pixels, respectively. Cooperation between them is executed by flexible parallel processing to improve navigation quality.

The measuring body of PRS-2 cigarette paper smoldering rate tester is industrial vision sensors P4E1.3, it could determine and identify the burning of the cigarette paper by using the advanced computer image processing techniques. The vision sensor can detection to 10,000 times per minute when the image resolution is 1.3 million pixels-accurate, it simultaneously monitors the 5 cigarette paper, and can ensure that the scanning frequency of each cigarette paper is not lower than 100 Hz. In the case of deducting the necessary analysis and calculation time, it can guarantee that the timing accuracy is no less than 0.1s. The instrument is able of detecting the serrated depth of the burned cigarette paper line and excludes the misjudgment which caused by human factors,so it could achieve control, data analysis, save and print independently.
