In the last few years, Online Social Networks (OSN) have experienced growth in the number of users, becoming an increasingly embedded part of people’s daily lives. Privacy expectations of OSNs are higher as more members start realizing potential privacy problems they face by interacting with these systems. Inspection methods can be an effective alternative for addressing privacy problems because they detect possible defects that could be causing the system to behave in an undesirable way. Therefore, we proposed a set of privacy inspection techniques called PIT-OSN (Privacy Inspection Techniques for Online Social Network). This paper presents the description and evolution of PIT-OSN through the results of a preliminary empirical study. We discuss the quantitative and qualitative results and their impact on improving the techniques. Results indicate that our techniques assist non-expert inspectors uncover privacy problems effectively, and are considered easy to use and useful by the study participants. Finally, the qualitative analysis helped us improve some technique steps that might be unclear.

This exploratory study focused on Chinese social network sites (SNS) users to determine whether their online self-disclosure differed from offline and whether culture had an impact on the patterns of their self-disclosure. Sixteen active users of Chinese online social networks were interviewed about their self-disclosing experiences. Results of a qualitative analysis suggest that culture was likely to impact the behavior of study participants by modifying the patterns of self-disclosure. Participants tended to disclose themselves indirectly on SNS, strived to make positive impressions, and revealed few intimate issues. In face-to-face communication, the relationships between disclosers and target persons as well as the target persons' status and background influenced the contents of self-disclosure.

Background. Mothers often look to family members and friends (ie, their social network) for advice and support regarding infant care decisions. However, little is known about the process by which mothers’ social networks are established and how mothers use these networks to make decisions regarding infant care. We thus conducted a qualitative analysis to explore how mothers choose individuals for their social networks, and how they use these for decision-making. Methods. Focus groups or individual interviews were conducted with 28 mothers. We asked probing questions about whom mothers turned to for advice and support, and how they made infant care decisions. Data were coded and analyzed iteratively for emerging themes. Results. Themes that emerged were changes in social networks once children are born, reasons for being in the mother’s social network, importance of the pediatrician as a trusted source, and process of making infant care decisions. After an infant is born, mothers gravitate toward friends with children; trustworthiness of those whom mothers turn to is based on their perceived experience and knowledge. Pediatricians are valued for their professional and personal experience with children. Mothers use consensus and/or instinct to make infant care decisions, but continually seek reassurance that these decisions are correct. Conclusion. Mothers’ social networks are important sources of infant care information. Because mothers rely on consensus and continued reassurance when making decisions, health care professionals have many opportunities to influence decision-making. Consistent health care messaging can enhance mothers’ perceptions that there is consensus of opinion from trusted sources.

The article presents an innovative approach to content management, resulting from the synthesis of biological and management sciences. The aim of the article was to develop a theoretical foundation for the assessment of the effectiveness of the spread of content of a memetic nature. To achieve the objectives of the paper the author has applied the method of quantitative and qualitative analysis of content and the method of literature analysis. Based on the proposed evaluation capacity factor of a single attribute of memetic content, an analysis of the content (photographs) published on fb fan pages of selected hotels in Poland has been conducted. Identifying the specific memetic attributes in the population of the analysed photographs, the potential of spreading of particular groups of content within the social network has been examined. It has been shown that the proposed rate may support the process of content management, in the context of, among others, creating an image of a tourist site.

The Gaming Industry is one of the most dynamic and fasted growing of our time, from the arcade culture to the widespread integration of household gaming consoles and home gaming PCs, whose steadily rising popularity, performance and inter-connectivity is allowing for more and more growth in the range and permeability of gaming and gaming culture. With its widespread popularity and its ever-increasing influence, through the acceptance of gaming culture as mainstream, the gaming world is becoming a crucial field of study for better understanding of online communities and social interaction. In this paper we will expand on the academic field of Online Social Network Analysis through the examination of a selected social network from the gaming world as a microcosm of online social interactions. The paper will draw on Social Network Analysis, Sociology and Communications theories to further expand the understanding of on-line interactions on a network scale. Current gaming focused research leads in two main directions, social consequence whether they be pro social or anti social. There is also however a smaller developing trend of study within the Social Network Analysis field that uses the data collected by computer game makers to study network structure as a variable of its own. In this research the findings of this trend within the computer game research will be used to conduct a qualitative Analysis of a small friends list network from Team Fortress 2. The data collected will compared and contrasted with established Sociology and Communications theories, the expected results and variances will then be explained using the findings of Social Network Analysis research. The Research draws the Two Step Flow communications theory (Lazarsfeld, 1948), and a slightly more refined version of the theory (Katz, 1957), to deduce relevant information on the interaction between companies, hardcore gamers and more casual gamers. The study will also draw predominantly on Mark Granovette work on Social Network Analysis.

At the new context of the emergency of the network organizations and the global businesses, the establishment of cooperation relationships provides costs reduction and the increment of competitive advantages. However, these partnerships fail because of the low attention to the relational component in business-oriented interpersonal interactions. The formation of alliances indicates that the knowledge, confidence and social network provides conditions for reach opportunities and add wealth that guarantee the sustainability of organizations. The study aims to observe how the relationship competence acts in the aggregation of those elements. We carry through a qualitative analysis of important elements to initiate and keep a cooperation relationship. The results demonstrate that interpersonal sensitivity emerges as primordial dimension in the quality of the relationship, also shows up the emergency of the negotiation ability between partners and promotion of consensus among the actors as the element constituent of the negotiation capacity for maintenance of healthful relations.
