In the present study, the effect of wet mechanical alloying (MA) on the glass-forming ability (GFA) of Co43Fe20X5.5B31.5 (X = Ta, W) alloys was studied. The structural evolution during MA was investigated using high-energy X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and magnetic measurements. Pair distribution function and extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy were used to characterize local atomic structure at various stages of MA. Besides structural changes, the magnetic properties of both compositions were investigated employing a vibrating sample magnetometer and thermomagnetic measurements. It was shown that using hexane as a process control agent during wet MA resulted in the formation of fully amorphous Co-Fe-Ta-B powder material at a shorter milling time (100 h) as compared to dry MA. It has also been shown that substituting Ta with W effectively suppresses GFA. After 100 h of MA of Co-Fe-W-B mixture, a nanocomposite material consisting of amorphous and nanocrystalline bcc-W phase was synthesized.

Double perovskite Sr 2 FeMoO 6 (SFMO) with composition of Sr 2-x La x Fe 1-y Co y MoO 6(x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 at.%; y = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 0.9 at.%) was synthesized by high energy ball milling and sintering. The sintered samples were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and magnetic measurements. XRD results show that all the samples have single phase double perovskite structure. EDS spectrum confirmed that the actual composition of prepared samples is in agreement with nominal ones. With the increase of doping concentration of La, the magnetization decreases, whereas Curie temperature increases in SFMO. And with doping concentration of La, the magnetoresistance (MR) ratio with a low magnetic field of 480 kA/m increases, has its maximum value as 5% for x = 0.3 at 293 K. The degree of antisite disorder decreases with Co 2+ doping, and therefore results in increase of MR ratio. At room temperature, the MR ratio with a considerable low magnetic field for x = 0.3, y = 0.1 has maximum value as 6.5%.

AbstractThis paper describes some novel techniques developed for directly measuring the electron mobility μe and mean free drift time Te in wide band gap semiconductors. These methods are based on a newly-developed digital data analysis system, in conjunction with single carrier charge sensing and depth sensing techniques. Compared with conventional methods, the new techniques are easier to implement, do not involve curve fitting, allow the use of high energy γ-rays and are not sensitive to variations in pulse rise time.

AbstractWe describe initial results of our program to develop and test Cd-Zn-Te (CZT) detectors with a pixellated array readout. Our primary interest is in the development of relatively thick CZT detectors for use in astrophysical coded aperture telescopes with response extending over the energy range ∼ 10 – 600 keV. The coded aperture imaging configuration requires only relatively large area pixels (1–3 mm), whereas the desired high energy response requires detector thicknesses of at least 3–5 mm. We have developed a prototype detector employing a 10 × 10 × 5 mm CZT substrate and 4 × 4 pixel (1.5 mm each) readout with gold metal contacts for the pixels and continuous gold contact for the bias on the opposite detector face. This MSM contact configuration was fabricated by RMD and tested at Harvard for uniformity, efficiency and spatial as well as spectral resolution. We have developed an ASIC readout (IDE-VA-1) and analysis system and report results, including ∼ 4% (FWHM) energy resolution at 60 keV. A prototype design for a full imaging detector array is discussed.

Different high-Tc superconducting Y-Ba-Cu-O samples of slabs and rings have been investigated. Using differently prepared Y1Ba2Cu3O7-d materials, significant deviations between irradiated and unirradiated specimens have been detected in their properties. These investigations demonstrate that unlikely prepared superconductors are differently sensitive to the external irradiation, although they have the same composition. The irradiation applied during these experiments consisted of high-energy Bi-ions with the flux of 5x1010 ions/cm2 and with the energy of 720 MeV. As is experienced, a considerable variation of the magnetic moment in the extent of 19-44% and a significant increase of the critical current density up to 41% can be detected. These originate from the change of the properties of materials due to the irradiation. For the evaluation of the experiments a new fitting method is elaborated for the temperature dependence of the critical current density, providing fully correct results for the whole temperature interval. The A.C. magnetic measurements show, that the irradiation causes to reach the state of the perfect diamagnetism at higher temperatures, than in the case of unirradiated samples. Similarly, the irradiated specimens have much lower losses, than the unirradiated ones and even these smaller values disappear at low temperatures.
