Abstract>Three species are recognized in the North American genus Megetra LeConte. The most distinctive of these anatomically and ecologically is M. cancellata (Brandt and Erichson), which ranges discontinuously from Arizona and New Mexico to the state of Hidalgo in México and occurs in limited sympatry with both of its congeners. Megetra vittata (LeConte) ranges from northern Arizona to western Texas. It appears to be strictly allopatric with, and similar ecologically to, M. punctata, new species, which ranges from southern Arizona and New Mexico to Durango, México. Specific diagnoses are made on the basis of characters of adult and, for M. cancellata and M. punctata, larval anatomy. Intraspecific variation in several adult characters is analyzed. Notes on the seasonal distribution, habitat, and behavior of the adult beetles are included.

By virtue of the Constitution Act, 1982. Canada has established that some rights andfreedoms are beyond the reach ofgovernment. However, the protection of properly, especially with regard to the guaranteeing of compensation ifproperty is taken by the state, has not been elevated to this same level of constitutional protection. This article examines regulatory takings claims under Article 1110 ofthe North American Free Trade Agreement and provides an exposition of the law insofar as it has developed in the NAFTA context. It begins with a survey of constructive takings in international and domestic U.S. law and concludes by highlighting the obvious differences between the protection afforded to foreign NAFTA investors in Canada and domestic owners of properly when property is taken.

This article represents the first published complete checklist of the moth taxa, resident and occasional, recorded to datefor Alaska. Seven-hundred and ten species are listed. General species distribution ranges within the state are included.Three North American records are listed for the first time: Cydia cornucopiae (Tengström); Eucosma hohenwartiana ([D. & S.]); Acronicta menyanthidis (Vieweg).

This essay consists of three beginnings, then a deferred reading of a novel. One beginning, a theoretical beginning, reflects on the question implicit in my title: What is unstated in the state of Lebanon? Another beginning, a literary critical beginning, returns to the work of Kahlil Gibran, the most famous early-twentieth-century Arab North American writer. Gibran links modernist and postmodernist Arab North American writing and, in a historical parallel, connects the foundations of the Lebanese state under French colonial rule to its disintegration in the context of the civil war. A third beginning, a contextual beginning, evokes more recent events in Lebanon through a discussion of the July War of 2006, during which Israel bombed the country for over a month. These three points of departure, I suggest, are crucial to readings of contemporary Arab North American fiction, which is always conditioned by theories of the state, a post-Gibran literary sensibility, and the politics of the present. More specifically, I argue that Rawi Hage's representation of the civil war in Lebanon in DeNiro's Game negotiates the destruction of the Lebanese state through figures of the unstated, whose very existence questions more generally the state form as the preeminent site of political authority and contributes to unstating the state.

Panorpa vernalisByers is recorded for the first time from Texas, and represents only the second species ofPanorpadocumented from the state. Intraspecific variations between the Texas specimens and Byers' original description are discussed. A synopsis of the principal modern keys for identification of North AmericanPanorpais provided, and an argument for a modern taxonomic review of the Panorpidae of North America is presented.

So much of the text of Mr. Elwe' paper as relates to North American Species has recently been printed in Psyche (March), but the synonymic list, which is most important for a full comprehension of the state of mind of the author, was omitted. I applied to the editor of the Can. Ent. to print the list, but it was found that it would occupy nearly one-half the space of a number, and it was not thought expedient to give it.

The purpose of this project was to investigate the distribution of the insect family Alydidae in the state of Alabama. Eight species and six genera were confirmed to be present, and all are new state records. The genus Hyalymenus and the species Stenocoris furcifera were previously only recorded in Florida, but are distributed well within Alabama. Although North American members of this family are not economically important, destructive species do exist in Asia and Africa. This information, therefore, will be useful in the potential event of an introduction.

The eastern spotted skunk has declined in numbers across its eastern North American geographic range, and its range has also contracted. This chapter examines the possible causes of this decline (including landscape change, overharvest, novel pathogens, and the onset of modern pesticide use), reviews the state of knowledge of the eastern spotted skunk with a particular focus on the landscape ecology of the species, and identifies topics that represent knowledge gaps for the species. Most knowledge of the ecology of eastern spotted skunks derives from studies conducted at just a handful of sites, and it is unclear the extent to which findings gained from these studies are representative of the ecology of the taxon across its range.
