Gait stability has been measured by using many entropy-based methods. However, the relation between the entropy values and gait stability is worth further investigation. A research reported that average entropy (AE), a measure of disorder, could measure the static standing postural stability better than multiscale entropy and entropy of entropy (EoE), two measures of complexity. This study tested the validity of AE in gait stability measurement from the viewpoint of the disorder. For comparison, another five disorders, the EoE, and two traditional metrics methods were, respectively, used to measure the degrees of disorder and complexity of 10 step interval (SPI) and 79 stride interval (SI) time series, individually. As a result, every one of the 10 participants exhibited a relatively high AE value of the SPI when walking with eyes closed and a relatively low AE value when walking with eyes open. Most of the AE values of the SI of the 53 diseased subjects were greater than those of the 26 healthy subjects. A maximal overall accuracy of AE in differentiating the healthy from the diseased was 91.1%. Similar features also exists on those 5 disorder measurements but do not exist on the EoE values. Nevertheless, the EoE versus AE plot of the SI also exhibits an inverted U relation, consistent with the hypothesis for physiologic signals.

OBJECTIVES To determine the effectiveness of K-tape on dynamic postural stability of the injured limb in adolescent athletes with chronic ankle instability (CAI) by measuring reach distance with the modified Star Excursion Balance Test (mSEBT).METHODS Twenty volunteers (20 females [17.78 ± 1.22 yrs], height [163.89 ± 7.69 cm], mass [62.51 ± 9.81 kg]) with CAI. Four strips of K-tape were applied to the injured limb. Participants completed 4 trials of testing (2 with tape, 2 without tape) using the mSEBT as the assessment tool. We applied 4 strips of K-tape to the injured limb and then tested postural stability using the mSEBT to see if there was an increase of reach distance in the mSEBT. Measuring reach distance in Anterior (AN), Posteromedial (PM), Posterolateral (PL) on the injured limb with K-tape and without K-tape condition. We measured the reach distances and then normalized the distance to account for height differences. A repeated measures t-test was used for this study.RESULTS There is no statistically significant different between the condition with K-tape and without K-tape in the reach distances on the mSEBT in adolescent athletes with CAI.CONCLUSIONS Based on the results, there appears to be no improvement of reach distance using the mSEBT in adolescent athletes with CAI. Therefore, clinicians need their thoughtful consideration for applying K-tape to improve dynamic postural stability in adolescent athletes with CAI.

Abstract The main aim of the pilot study was to evaluate the relationship between degree of visual impairment of patient and his postural stability. The article contains basic explanation and requirements for stabilography research. The paper also describes statistic analysis of influence of visual impairment on postural stability opposed to control group (people perfectly sighted). These results allowed us to verify the approved research plan.

This study aimed to analyze the changes in postural stability of individuals with obesity after bariatric surgery, and the effect of three months of regular exercise on the static postural stability. Twenty-two subjects (7 females and 15 males) aged 31 to 68 years (Body mass index 35–55 kg.m-2) completed the study. Participants were divided into two groups: one group participated in an exercise program after the bariatric surgery (n = 10; age 48.9 ± 7.5 years; Body mass index 42 ± 5.6 kg.m-2) while the second group did not exercise at all after bariatric surgery (n = 12; age 44.7 ± 13.6 years, Body mass index 42.6 ± 6.0 kg.m-2). Static postural stability was measured using a Tekscan MobileMat pressure plate before and 4 months after the bariatric surgery. The exercise program included exercising three times a week including: one hour of strengthening, one hour of aerobic group exercise and at least one session of individual exercise at home. There were no significant differences in Center of force sway, Center of force ranges and average speed before and 4 months after bariatric surgery. Also, no effect of exercise was found. Post-pre differences of some parameters were negatively related to age (r from—0.46 to—0.72). Further studies are needed to explore this topic in depth.

The aim of this study is to investigate whether the intended ambient sound level has an effect on the postural stability. For this purpose 15 man and 12 women totally 27 healthy, voluntary students voluntarily participated in the study. The DT-8820 Multi-Function Environment Meter was used for Sound Level Measurement. Quiet environment, while the volume was maintained at between 15-30 decibel noise level of 90-100 dB in noisy environments. The Biodex balance system (Biodex, Inc., Shirley, New York) was used for postural stability measurement. SPSS 21.0 package program was used in the analysis of the data. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks and Mann Whitney U test was used to compare measurement Significance level was set at 0.05 and 0.01 levels. When the balance performances at different sound levels are compared by gender, It was found that there was a significantly meaningful result in favor of men in quite environment oscillation balance scores both open eye and closed eye. However there was no significant difference among man and women other scores. On the other hand it was determined significant differences in the women closed eye oscillation score. In the man excepting open eye oscillation score the noisy environment was negatively affected all parameter. Postural stability was negatively affected noisy environment. As a result; In the study conducted that the high level of sound impaired the balance performance by affecting the vestibular system in both women and men and the effect was higher when closed eyes. ÖzetYapılan çalışmanın amacı ortam ses seviyesinin denge performansına etkisinin olup olmadığının araştırılmasıdır. Bu amaçla çalışmaya 15’i erkek, 12’si bayan toplam 27 öğrenci alınmıştır. Ortam Ses Seviyesi Ölçümü DT-8820 Multi-Function Environment Meter cihazı ile yapıldı. Sessiz ortam ses seviyesi 15-30 desibel arasında iken gürültülü ortam ses seviyesi 90-100 desibel arasında tutulmuştur.Denge ölçümü için BİODEX denge sistemi (Biodex, Inc, Shirley New York) kullanılmıştır.
