This study aimed to analyze the changes in postural stability of individuals with obesity after bariatric surgery, and the effect of three months of regular exercise on the static postural stability. Twenty-two subjects (7 females and 15 males) aged 31 to 68 years (Body mass index 35–55 kg.m-2) completed the study. Participants were divided into two groups: one group participated in an exercise program after the bariatric surgery (n = 10; age 48.9 ± 7.5 years; Body mass index 42 ± 5.6 kg.m-2) while the second group did not exercise at all after bariatric surgery (n = 12; age 44.7 ± 13.6 years, Body mass index 42.6 ± 6.0 kg.m-2). Static postural stability was measured using a Tekscan MobileMat pressure plate before and 4 months after the bariatric surgery. The exercise program included exercising three times a week including: one hour of strengthening, one hour of aerobic group exercise and at least one session of individual exercise at home. There were no significant differences in Center of force sway, Center of force ranges and average speed before and 4 months after bariatric surgery. Also, no effect of exercise was found. Post-pre differences of some parameters were negatively related to age (r from—0.46 to—0.72). Further studies are needed to explore this topic in depth.

Objectives: Objective of this study is to evaluate the association of body mass index with hemoglobin Level, erythrocyte Indices and red cell distribution width in medical students of Baqai Medical University Karachi. Study Design: Descriptive cross - sectional study. Setting: Physiology Department of Baqai Medical University Karachi. Period: 15 February 2017 to 15 August 2017. Material & Methods: A total of 500 students were enrolled in this study. The anthropometric measurement [height (m2) and weight (kg)] was recorded for calculation of the Body Mass Index and Complete blood count i-e Hemoglobin%, erythrocyte indices {Mean corpuscular volume(MCV), Mean corpuscular hemoglobin(MCH), Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), Red cell distribution width (RDW) were done and Mentzer’s Index was calculated. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0 was used to analyze the collected data. Results: It was observed in 500 medical students that 36% of the students were having low hemoglobin % level, while low values of erythrocyte indices (MCH: 38.0%, MCV 36.6% and MCHC 39.0% respectively)  and 93.8% of participants had a higher values of RDW in study participants. Iron deficiency anemia (87.2%) and thalassemia (carrier or minor: 12.8%) were determined by using Menterzer Index. Mean body mass index of study participants were 23.04±3.68 and it was observed in study participants that only RDW was significantly associated with obese students (X²=9.878, p=0.02). Conclusion: With regard to our study results, higher percentage (87.2%) of Iron deficiency anemia were observed and having association between red cell distribution width to obesity.

Objective: Obesity is a medical problem that increases the risk of health problems like diabetes. Hormones secreting from fat tissue, Leptin, are correlated with body mass index. Leptin reduces the personchr('39')s appetite by acting on specific centers of their brain to reduce their urge to eat. And insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, is essential for regulating carbohydrates and the metabolism of fat. A positive relationship between leptin levels and insulin resistance in children showing in this study is to determine the effect of continues-endurance and interval-endurance on leptin serum levels and insulin resistance in over-weighted youths. Materials and Methods: This study is a semi-experimental design. Thirty boys were voluntarily selected as a matched two experimental groups and a control. Physical profiles included aged 16-19, BMI; 37.75 (±4.46) KG/M2, base functional capacity: 32.8 (±3.6) ml/kg/min which dividing by three equal groups: the submaximal training interval, a continuum and interval and control group performed the submaximal running program for six weeks on 3 D/W. The selected parameters were evaluated for an intervention pre and post-conditions. Results: weight and body mass index variables were decreased by about 2.5-3% after exercise intervention. Plasmatic leptin levels were reduced by about 45% in the continuum and interval control groups. HOMA-IR & QUICKI indexes altered in the EG (8.9 %, 7.8%) (P-value < 0.05). Conclusion: Presumably, 2 exercise program patterns lower than lactate threshold could change body composition profile, basal leptin level, and blood glucose /insulin concentrations, which probably induced changes in resistance to insulin.
