The cordierite was synthesized at relatively low temperature by pressureless sintering method, using calcined bauxite, talcum , quartz and feldspar as raw materials in this paper. The water absorption (Wa), porosity (Pa), bulk density (Db) and bending strength of samples have been tested, and the synthetic process and mechanism have been investigated by XRD, SEM, and so on. The results showed that the cordierite could be synthesized at 1280°C and the range of synthetic temperature is 1160~1300°C, when the sample was sintered at 1280°C for 2h, its bulk density and bending strength were 2.20g/cm3and 72.13MPa, respectively. XRD analysis showed that the main phase of sample was cordierite, the cordierite content was about 88wt%, and the minor phases were MgAl2O4spinel and corundum. SEM results showed that the samples were dense and the pore sizes were 5 μm~100μm, the grains were growth and development well, the grains size were 0.5μm~6μm. High reaction activity corundum and mullite were provided by calcined bauxite, then coupled with the role of feldspar, thus reduced the synthetic temperature of cordierite.

In this study, granular sorbent (GS) which was prepared from red mud, clay and coal by sintering method was studied. With the aim of determining the optimal parameters for GS production, the influences of several important factors (including raw material ratio, sintering temperature and sintering time) on the adsorption capacity of GS for Cu2+ removal were evaluated in the single-experiment. The results indicated that the raw material ratio was the key factor that influenced the property of GS. The optimal conditions for GS preparation were as follows: the raw material ratio (red mud: clay: coal) of 85:10:5, sintering temperature of 400 °C and sintering time of 20 min.

Gamma titanium aluminides are very interesting for their use in high-performance applications such as aircraft engines due to their low density, high stiffness and favorable high-temperature properties. However, the pronounced brittleness of these intermetallic alloys is a major challenge for their processing through conventional fabrication methods. Additive manufacturing by means of electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) significantly improves the processability of titanium aluminides due to the high preheating temperatures and facilitates complex components. The objective of this study was to determine a suitable processing window for EB-PBF of the TNM-B1 alloy (Ti-43.5Al-4Nb-1Mo-0.1B), using an increased aluminum content in the powder raw material to compensate for evaporation losses during the process. Design of experiments was used to evaluate the effect of beam current, scan speed, focus offset, line offset and layer thickness on porosity. Top surface roughness was assessed through laser scanning confocal microscopy. Scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were used for microstructural investigation and to analyze aluminum loss depending on the volumetric energy density used in EB-PBF. An optimized process parameter set for achieving part densities of 99.9% and smooth top surfaces was derived. The results regarding microstructures and aluminum evaporation suggest a solidification via the β-phase.

Porous quartz ceramics were produced using river sand from the Yangtze River in China as the raw material via the atmospheric pressure sintering method. The influence of the sintering temperature on the density, the porosity, the porous structure and the outside shape of ceramics were investigated in this paper. The conclusions show that the sintering temperature increased, the microstructure of the samples changed accordingly and the density increased, while the porosity decreased, the micropores edge gradually become smooth. The optimum sintering temperature of porous quartz ceramics was obtained at 1100 °C as determined by an analysis of the performance price ratio of the porous quartz ceramics, the density is 1.25g/cm3, the porosity is 49.5%, the outside shape is regular, the micropore edge are smooth.

Fe-20wt%Cu-Al braking materials were prepared by induction heating sintering method combined with the Copper cladding iron matrix with various aluminum elements. Effects of Aluminum on surface morphology, Mechanical and frictional properties of Cu-Fe-based Braking Material were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), machine test and friction-wear test. Lastly suitable parameters of the process are decided. Meanwhile, wear mechanisms were discussed. The results showed that the prepared shaking materials with aluminum content of 3wt%, silicon carbide content of 5wt%, manganese and chromium content of 5wt% and copper cladding iron power content of 87wt% had excellent performance.

This study explores the practicability of using drill cutting (DC) as raw material to fabricate building bricks through the high-temperature sintering method and low-temperature geopolymeric setting (LTGS) process. Drilling mud can be recycled and reutilized after certain treatment procedures and is considered as a non-hazardous waste. However, the treatment process is time-consuming and not cost-effective. For the sintering method, low porosity and high mechanical strength bricks can be sintered at temperatures above 800 °C and meet CNS standards. For the low-temperature geopolymeric setting process, sodium silicate was selected as an activating agent for geopolymerization of drill cutting. Several process parameters, such as Si2O/Na2O modulus of alkali solution and low-temperature geopolymeric setting temperature, were investigated. The physical and mechanical properties of the fabricated brick were evaluated. According to the test results, 72.4 MPa compressive strength building bricks with low porosity (13.9%) and water absorption (6.0%) can be fabricated with 2.0 Si2O/Na2O alkali solution at 500 °C. The drill cutting brick fabricated not only meets the CNS 382.R2002 common brick standard, but also solve its disposal problem.

The content and structure of mental representation of economic crises were studied and the flexibility of the structure in different social contexts was tested. Italian and Swiss samples (Total N = 98) were compared with respect to their judgments as to how a series of concrete examples of events representing abstract indicators were relevant symptoms of economic crisis. Mental representations were derived using a cluster procedure. Results showed that the relevance of the indicators varied as a function of national context. The growth of unemployment was judged to be by far the most important symptom of an economic crisis but the Swiss sample judged bankruptcies as more symptomatic than Italians who considered inflation, raw material prices and external accounts to be more relevant. A different clustering structure was found for the two samples: the locations of unemployment and gross domestic production indicators were the main differences in representations.
