India is a country which is in forefront of being called a developed nation. To be a developed nation, India has to first look at its rural development, because 70 percent of the population live in rural areas, which means more than 700 million people are spread across 6,27,000 villages. Rural development is more than ever before linked to entrepreneurship. Establishments and agencies promoting rural development now look at entrepreneurship as a strategic development medium that could speed up the rural development process. Development institutions believe that rural entrepreneurship offers a huge potential for employment. In this paper a case study of a young entrepreneur who has taken up horticulture (vegetable plants nursery) as his full time profession, with a mission to help the neighbouring farmers is studied, the purpose of this paper is to understand the government role (policies and schemes), the difficulties faced by the entrepreneur during the startup time and knowledge transfer from the horticulture department, nursery management. The methodology followed is in-depth interaction with the entrepreneur. The outcome of paper will be to understand how rural entrepreneurship is helping improve the quality of life for families, communities and individuals leading to sustainable economy and environment.

Modern wedge bonders have evolved since their early inception in 1957. This paper will review the common challenges process engineers face when selecting a wedge bond machine configuration and developing robust processes. Wedge bond cases presented will show the tradeoff between process inputs and the resulting bond shapes, bond appearance of black ring, burrs, pull results, etc. The purpose of this work was to optimize the process outputs: bond shape, black ring, burrs, and pulls on a die with aluminum bond pads. Process inputs included Force, Time, and Ultrasonic Level. An aluminum wafer was used to understand the basic relationship between process parameter inputs and outputs. The learning was then applied to a die with aluminum bond pads. Examples of non-compliance and compliance will be shown to help process engineers evaluate wedge bonds and make refinements. The case studied was for an aluminum bond pad/Al wafer and 1.5 mil aluminum wire interaction that creates burrs around the bond (wire to pad interface), black ring on the bond periphery (wedge tool to wire interface) and the resulting pulls. Both the graphical and numerical results of the case study have clearly demonstrated the relationship between the typical process inputs and outputs, particularly bond shape, burrs, black ring and pulls. The findings in this study will provide a general guideline and a troubleshooting reference for wedge bonding process development.

SSistem Pembangunan Proses (Process Development System) merupakan satu pendekatan kejuruteraan sistematik terkini untuk menganalisis masalah dan menambahbaik kualiti produk atau proses. Kajian ini hanya memfokuskan kepada masalah proses pengeluaran dan penambahbaikan ke atas proses pengeluaran lampin pakai buang (diaper). Kajian ini dilakukan ke atas salah satu mesin (Mesin Technipro) pembuat lampin pakai buang. Kombinasi kawalan proses statistik dan pendekatan lain seperti Kepner Tregoe, Poka Yoke, SMED, zero setting, centerlining, F1 Pit Shop dan rakaman video digunakan untuk melakukan penambahbaikan. Ukuran masa perjalanan mesin, masa mesin berhenti akibat mengalami kerosakan, masa penyelenggaraan mesin, peratus kecekapan mesin, peratus produk yang dihasilkan dalam sejam, peratus masa lengah mesin dan peratus kecacatan yang terhasil digunakan bagi membandingkan hasil dari proses penambahbaikan yang dijalankan. Kajian ini telah berjaya membangunkan dan mereka bentuk sistem pembangunan proses bagi memperbaiki proses-proses yang sedia ada. Kata kunci: Sistem Pembangunan Proses, proses penambahbaikan, lampin pakai buang Process Development System is a systematic engineering approach to analyze problems and improve the processes and product quality. This study focuses on the problem of diaper production processes and its improvements. For the case study, one dedicated machine (Technopro Machine) is selected. Combination of Statistical Process Control and other approaches like Kepner Tregoe concept, Poka Yoke concept, SMED concept, zero setting, centerlining, F1 Pit Stop concept, and video recording are used in the improvement process. The machine running time, machine downtime, preventive maintenance time, machine efficiency percentage, and product produced per hour are used to monitor the efficiency of the improved processes. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to question the applicability of recent industry-derived terms such as “Big Data” (BD) and the “Internet of things” (IoT) in a supply chain managerial context. Is this labeling useful in managing the operations found in supply chains? Design/methodology/approach BD and IoT are critically discussed in the context of a complete supply chain organization. A case study of banana supply from Costa Rica to Norway is provided to empirically ground this research. Thompson’s contingency theory, Alderson’s functionalistic end-to-end “marketing channels” model, Penrose’s view of supply purpose associated with service provision, and particularities of banana supply reveal how end-to-end supply chains are complex systems, even though the product distributed is fairly simple. Findings Results indicate that the usefulness of BD in supply chain management discourse is limited. Instead its connectivity is facilitated by what is now becoming commonly labeled as IoT, people, devices and documents that are useful when taking an end-to-end supply chain perspective. Connectivity is critical to efficient contemporary supply chain management. Originality/value BD and IoT have emerged as a part of contemporary supply chain management discourse. This study directs attention to the importance of scrutinizing emergent and actual discourse in managing supply chains, that it is not irrelevant which words are applied, e.g., in research on information-enabled supply process development. Often the old words of professional terminology may be sufficient or even better to help manage supply.
