Abaqus finite element software can implement three-dimensional excavation design calculation, so authors used Python of Abaqus core language made the 3D design of foundation pit supporting program come ture and also did intensive study of mesh optimization during the process. Authors also did intensive comparison and analysis about grid division of the complex geometry foundation pit, through a regularization partion about a variety of special-shaped pit, we made the automatic division about the structural grid of all kinds of shapes foundation pit successful. On this basis, we achieved better calculation effects of the model. The article will introduce problems about optimization of grid in procedure.

Abstract The 3D Finite element method (FEM) is an efficient tool to predict the variables in the cutting process, which is otherwise challenging to obtain with the experimental methods alone. The present study combines both experimental findings and finite element simulation outcomes to investigate the effect of tool material on output process variables, such as vibrations, cutting temperature distribution and tool wear mechanism. Machining of popular aerospace materials like Ti-6Al-4V and Al7075 turned with coated and uncoated tools are part of the investigation. The authors choose the orthogonal test, measured vibrations and cutting temperatures and used FE simulations to carry out the subsequent validations. This study includes the influence of the predicted heat flux and temperature distribution on the tool wear mechanism. The main aim of this study is to investigate the performance quality of uncoated and coated carbide tools along with its thermal aspects. Comparison of experiment and simulation outcomes shows good agreement with a maximum error of 9.02%. It has been noted that the increase of cutting temperature is proportional to its cutting speed. As the cutting speed increases, it is observed that vibration parameter and flank wear value also increases. Overall, coated carbide turning insert tool is the best method for metal turning with higher rotational speeds of the spindle.

In this paper, the two methods for solving finite element problem, theoretical calculation method and ANSYS simulation analysis method, were used to study deformation and stress situation of each node of triangular truss under different distribution loads. The results of theoretical calculation were compared with those of ANSYS simulation, which showed that the counter-acting forces of each node were exactly the same. For the calculation results of the equivalent stiffness constants of each unit could not be accurate, values of each node deformation calculated by theoretical calculation could be error, but the maximum error rate was no more than 3.6%. By the comparison results, conclusion could be made that the results of ANSYS simulation are more intuitive and image, the values are more accurate and reliable, comparing with those of theoretical calculation, the influence of accuracy of equivalent stiffness constant is much more smaller.

This article is a review regarding recently developed inverse strategies coupled with finite element simulations for the identification of the parameters of constitutive laws that describe the plastic behaviour of metal sheets. It highlights that the identification procedure is dictated by the loading conditions, the geometry of the sample, the type of experimental results selected for the analysis, the cost function, and optimization algorithm used. Also, the type of constitutive law (isotropic and/or kinematic hardening laws and/or anisotropic yield criterion), whose parameters are intended to be identified, affects the whole identification procedure.

This paper proposes a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm coupled with the finite element limit equilibrium method (FELEM) for the minimum factor of safety and the location of associated noncircular critical failure surfaces for various geotechnical practices. During the search process, the stress compatibility constraints coupled with the geometrical and kinematical compatibility constraints are firstly established based on the features of slope geometry and stress distribution to guarantee realistic slip surfaces from being unreasonable. Furthermore, in the FELEM, based on rigorous theoretical analyses and derivation, it is noted that the physical meaning of the factor of safety can be formulated on the basis of strength reserving theory rather than the overloading theory. Consequently, compared with the limit equilibrium method (LEM) and the shear strength reduction method (SSRM) through several numerical examples, the FELEM in conjunction with the improved search strategy is proved to be an effective and efficient approach to routine analysis and design in geotechnical practices with a high level of confidence.

The active earth pressure on rigid retaining wall is analyzed using the finite element software ABAQUS. The fill behind the wall is sand and the Mohr–Coulomb constitutive model was used to model the stress–strain behaviour of soils.The finite element analysis results were compared with the Rankine results. The maximum error of the results is about 10% and the finite element analysis result is bigger. So the result obtained from the finite element method could safely be used in actual projects.
