The SCOOT Urban Traffic Control system is now operating in over 170 cities worldwide, including 7 systems in North America. Since the first system was installed, there has been a continuous program of research and development to provide new facilities to meet the requirement of the traffic manager. The latest version of SCOOT (Version 3.1) incorporates a traffic information database, ASTRID, and an incident-detection system, INGRID, and provides a number of facilities for congestion control. The traffic monitoring facilities of SCOOT, including a new facility to estimate emissions from vehicles, and the current program of work to enhance the incident-detection system and to provide additional facilities to manage incidents and congestion are reported in this paper. The work is being carried out as part of the European Union, DGXIII 4th Framework project, COSMOS, with additional funding from the UK Department of Transport. The enhanced system is to be installed in the Kingston Borough of London, where it will be tested in combination with congestion warning information provided by variable message signs.

This study investigates the role of levers-of-control (LOC) based controlling system in the strategy formulation and MSME performance relationship in Samarinda. Through a survey conducted on the leadership (controller) of MSMEs in Samarinda City, this study evidenced the role of management control systems in the strategy formulation and MSME performance relationship. Of the 49 responses of MSME leaders, processed using PLS-SEM analysis, this study provided empirical evidence that the strategy formulation had a positive relationship with MSME performance. In addition, the indirect relationship between the two (mediation) through LOC-based management system supported the mediation hypothesis that the LOC-based management control system affects the strategy formulation and MSME performance relationship. In other words, it can be concluded that the management control system can increase the strategy formulation role that leads to MSME performance betterment.

The task of the authors was to develop a certain control system to identify the role of country economic security in the Eurasian integration. To this end, the approaches to economic security in Europe, Russia and Asian countries are analyzed. The differences in the methods of controlling the national economic security and in the key approaches to its provision are primarily due to the historically established internal economic and geo-economic conditions. There is a fairly wide range of paradigms of controlling system implemented in national economic security, primarily the differences between the European approaches and the approach of Russia.  Given information based on mentioned control systems revealed that principles and mechanisms of organization of national economic security systems in Asian countries is practically absent in Russian science. It was also necessary to analyze the typology of control monitoring system in order to clarify the prospects of integration of national economic security systems. The authors substantiate the position that ensuring national economic security is an important imperative of integration and development in the Eurasian space, competitiveness and economic sovereignty of countries. The article systematically organizes the facts about the types of organization of national economic security, explains the need for the countries of Eurasia active control system of economic security as a response to the challenges of our time. The authors express a certain control syste, of Eurasian integration in the field of national security, involving both sovereignty and harmonization of national systems aimed at protecting economic interests.

Aiming to solve the switch problem between auto-and manual-operation of shearer memory-cut due to variation of coal seam conditions, this paper proposes a method that introduces the strategy of override control to the controlling system of shearer memory-cut. This study also improves the control of hydraulic system for lifting cylinder, and designs an override control system for lifting cylinder of shearer. The procedure for controlling the height adjustment mechanism is thus addressed to offer a new control means for reliable operation of the shearer during operations.

A practical traffic control system can be envisaged as a hierarchy of control loops, each serving to convert a traffic demand into a potential traffic flow. Each loop is concerned with problems that can be foreseen to arise at some time in the future and the distinctive characteristic of any loop is the distance ahead, in time, to which it prognosticates. Although this model is probably applicable to most traffic systems the present note will apply it in the context of air traffic control.Figure 1 shows a whole family of possible control loops. (Not all of these are present in all A.T.C. systems.) In each loop there is a mechanism for the prediction of future traffic. This prediction is compared with certain internal criteria and, if these are not satisfied, some control action is taken to coerce the traffic pattern into some more acceptable form. It is characteristic of most of these loops that they cannot be proved to be capable of safely handling all conceivable traffic demands; there is an implicit assumption that the superior elements of the control system will not tolerate a traffic demand which is beyond the handling capability of the inferior loops, but that a residue of unsolved problems can generally be left to be handled further down the chain.

Stable and Reliable automatic control system of Vacuum Consumable Arc Remelting (VAR) furnace is the key to smelt successfully special alloy metal and high temperature alloy metal, which is related to special properties of remelting ingot directly. This paper makes a deep study for drop short pulse testing and controlling system, and digital signal processing is used to obtain drop short pulse value with different frequency ranges. Firstly, basic theory analysis of drop short pulse measuring and controlling is researched. Secondly, high-speed digital signal processing technology is adopted to sample furnace voltage signal real-timely, band pass filter group is designed directly to process and calculate the amount of drop short pulses in different frequency ranges, Finally, the relationship between drop short pulse frequency and special alloy materials is analyzed, fuzzy PID control method is used to adjust electrode gap and control arc length. Field experiment results show the effectiveness of the whole drop short pulse testing and controlling system.

The aim of this study is to verify whether a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ can be utilized as a low-cost device for controlling a tensile-testing device used for material research purposes. A list of requirements based on already-available hardware was drawn up, which the new control system had to fulfil. To connect all the necessary equipment, a connection board was constructed, and some additional hardware was acquired for the system to be able to perform all the necessary tasks. The whole controlling system was also put in a small enclosure to make it portable. The control-system software was written in C++ using the Pigpio library. The developed system was then tested, and the results were compared to a commercially available Instron 8802 device. A comparison of the results shows that the upgraded equipment can produce comparable results to commercially available devices and is sufficiently accurate to be applied for research purposes for the characterization of soft tissues and other materials.
