The possibilities of applying the pure Lagrangian vortex methods of computational fluid dynamics to viscous incompressible flow simulations are considered in relation to various problem formulations. The modification of vortex methods—the Viscous Vortex Domain method—is used which is implemented in the VM2D code developed by the authors. Problems of flow simulation around airfoils with different shapes at various Reynolds numbers are considered: the Blasius problem, the flow around circular cylinders at different Reynolds numbers, the flow around a wing airfoil at the Reynolds numbers 104 and 105, the flow around two closely spaced circular cylinders and the flow around rectangular airfoils with a different chord to the thickness ratio. In addition, the problem of the internal flow modeling in the channel with a backward-facing step is considered. To store the results of the calculations, the POD technique is used, which, in addition, allows one to investigate the structure of the flow and obtain some additional information about the properties of flow regimes.

■ Aims The aim of this article is to investigate the problem formulations – the preconceptions about causes and effects and the possible solutions to the problems of alcohol abuse – that characterized the compulsory institutional care of alcohol abusers in Sweden in the 20th century. The article focuses on problem formulations that actually were practised in the institutions. ■ Methods & Data The main source material is to be found in the archives of four institutionalized care establishments and consists of official reports, correspondence, supply estimates, circulars for consideration and – above all – patient records. From this material you can learn about the institutions' struggle for autonomy, expansion and legitimacy, and also about the clients' characteristics and how the clients were viewed. The study of the archives allows you to form a picture of the problem formulations that affected the activities in the institutions directly, a picture that goes beyond the more abstract expectations preferred by official reports and legislation. ■ Results Within the compulsory institutional care actually carried out, the problem formulations that were stipulated in the gender-neutral legislation and vague regulations became gender-specific and precise. The treatment of alcohol abusers was a class and gender related project, aiming not only at encouraging male diligence and the fulfilling of a man's maintenance obligation but also at female virtuousness and concern for the family. ■ Conclusions The history of alcohol abusers' treatment shows that alcohol itself has been a secondary factor in problem definitions which have let themselves be attached – via perceived links with either cause or effect – to more overarching social issues in Sweden. The concerns of emergent family policy in the 1940s, the developmental optimism and scientistic passions of the 1950s, and the systemically critical protest movements of the 1970s are all clearly reflected in trends within social care services for alcohol abusers – albeit much more often at the level of discourse than of praxis.

Optimal system design of “smart” products requires optimization of both the artifact and its controller. When the artifact and the controller designs are independent, the system solution is straightforward through sequential optimization. When the designs are coupled, combined simultaneous optimization can produce system-optimal results, but presents significant computational and organizational complexity. This paper presents a method that produces results comparable with those found with a simultaneous solution strategy, but with the simplicity of the sequential strategy. The artifact objective function is augmented by a control proxy function (CPF), representing the artifact’s ease of control. The key to successful use of this method is the selection of an appropriate CPF. Four theorems that govern the choice and evaluation of a CPF are given. Each theorem is illustrated using a simple mathematical example. Specific CPFs are then presented for particular problem formulations, and the method is applied to the optimal design and control of a micro-electrical mechanical system actuator.

The selection of the resources system (SRS) is an important element in the integration/project of Agile/Virtual Enterprises (A/V E) because its performance is dependent of this selection, and even of its creation. However, it remains a difficult matter to solve because is still a very complex and uncertain problem. We propose that using Value Analysis (VA) in the pre-selection of resources phase represents a significant improvement of the SRS process. The current literature fails to formally address the pre-selection phase and none of the resource selection models incorporate the resources value and its consequence in the complexity of the selection process. Whereby, ours developed model with VA constitutes an innovative approach towards greater sustainability in the configuration of A/V E in the context of Industry 4.0, where a massive interconnection among enterprises is expected and consequently the increase of the selection process complexity. After the construction of a demonstrator tool for a set of the problem formulations, this paper verifies by computational results the thesis regarding the benefits of applying VA to the SRS process: VA reduces the complexity of the SRS process, even ensuring that the final system of resources achieve higher quality/value grade.

It is said that Shia does not believe in Al-Qur'an that is available today, but we find that the Al-Qur'an that was printed by the Shia is the same Al-Qur'an which is printed elsewhere. Therefore, this study aims to explain the essence of Shia’s belief in Al-Qur'an that is currently in the hands of the Muslims and also the roots of that belief. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis namely by examining classical and modern books particularly the books of Shia’s scholars as the main source to explain and answer the problem formulations in this study. The results of this study indicate that Shia does not believe in Al-Qur'an that exists today. They are forced to read and perform its laws until the emergence of Al-Qaim, which is Imam Mahdi Al-Muntazhar in their version which would carry "the original al-Qur'an." There are two roots of this belief those are to legitimize the doctrine of Al-Wilayah or Imamat of Ahlul Bait and to deny the virtues of the companions.

The fact is that many young Javanese today do not know wayang characters, wayang stories, folk songs, and children's games. This proves the lack of appreciation of the younger generation for studying literature and culture in their region. They consider that regional literature is ancient and out of date. This causes regional literature and culture to gradually become extinct. Syi'ir Jawi Budi Utami is oral literature written by Kiai Djamal. This research was conducted as an effort to understand syi'ir Kiai Djamal by using the Levi-Strauss structuralism analysis which examines literary works not only from the literary field but also from the field of anthropology. The author focuses this research on two problem formulations, namely, why did Kiai Djamal write syi'ir Jawi Budi Utami and what is the structure of syir Jawi Budi Utami. The method used for data collection is documentation and is processed by descriptive-analytical methods. The purpose of this research is to enrich the discourse and insight into the study of the concept of Levi-Strauss structuralism as well as as a reference or preliminary review for the development of studies on the Sufistic syi'ir of Kiai Djamal in Levi-Strauss structuralism, on the one hand, the application of Levi-Strauss structuralism analysis to other objects. This research found that the principles of writing syi'ir Kiai Djamal consist of five episodes, namely: first Kiai Djamal introduces the phases of a Muslim, namely syari'ah, thoriqoh, and haqiqoh. The second episode of Kiai Djamal introduces one of the tarekat, namely the Syadziliyyah Tarekat, followed by the following chapters regarding the explanation of the Syadziliyyah Tarekat. The third episode is the Qodiriyah Order. The fourth episode is the Tarekat An-Naqsabandiyah in brief. The fifth episode is a continuous explanation of the previous chapter. This shows the structure of writing Syi'ir Kiai Djamal. Also, the researcher sees that the context in syi'ir Kiai Djamal is an unconscious reflection of Kiai Djamal with the discovery of signifier and signified, langue and parole, form and content and phonemes in syi'ir Kiai Sufistik Djamal.

Recently, coconut oil has become an attractive natural material consisting of monolaurin which exhibits antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antiprotozoal effects. However, coconut oil is relatively immiscible with water, the main composition of human body. This study was thus focused on the development of nanoemulsions containing coconut oil employing the combination of several surfactants and variation of mixing speed for the purpose of overcoming the immiscible problem. Formulations of nanoemulsions were prepared within this study. The HLB values were then measured and used to determine the compatibility between coconut oil and surfactants. Moreover, the speed of homogenizer which might have a significant impact on the physical properties of nanoemulsions, was taken into account. Meanwhile, particle size, zeta potential, pH, long-term stability, and antibacterial activity were also examined. According to the results, the nanoemulsions prepared from 10% (w/w) of coconut oil and 10% (w/w) of surfactants comprising of Tween® 80 and Span® 80 in the ratio of 2 to 3 at the homogenization speed of 15000 rpm seemed to be suitable for topical administration with the characteristics as follows: the droplet size of 254.7±0.016 nm, the zeta potential of-4.41±1.46 mV, and the pH values of 6.13± 0.01. In addition, coconut oil formulated in the form of nanoemulsions demonstrated the efficient antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, a gram-positive bacteria. In conclusion, this study represents the effect of mixing speed on the properties of nanoemulsions containing coconut oil which could be further developed as a substitute for topical antibiotics.
