Small island states in the competitive international tourism market - the case of the Seychelles. Small island states are fragile and vulnerable due to a number of aspects like e.g. a lack in mineral resources and high transportation cost. Island economies are often highly dependent on tourism as a source of income. In this article the Seychelles´ natural assets and their tourism development are portrayed. Against the background of a strong worldwide competition it is discussed whether the Seychelles high-value conservation tourism is competitive. Furthermore, measures improving the market situation of the country are depicted. Additionally, strategies for all island states are described, which they can implement in order to compete with other destinations.

The current study calculates an indicator of tourism source market structure and investigates its impact on international tourism revenues in Turkey. This structure may influence the tourism performance through its consequences on the competitiveness and risk structure of the sector. The calculation of tourism source market structure in this study is based on the normalized Herfindahl–Hirschman Index and number of tourists by nationality. The ARDL co-integration framework is the method used and the estimation covers the period between January 2008 and September 2019. The calculated tourism source market structure indicator showed decreasing trend in the research period indicating that the tourism source market diversified in some extent. The co-integration is supported, and in the long-term model a 1% decrease in the tourism source market concentration found to increase international tourism revenues by 1.9078%. Furthermore, the error correction model indicated that it takes 7.16 months for deviations from the long-run relationship to return to the equilibrium.

Tourism-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are a central driver of anthropogenic climate change. At the same time, climate change has both direct and indirect impacts on tourism, varying from damages of tourist assets due to extreme weather events, to losses of biodiversity. Small island developing states (SIDS) heavily depend on international tourism as a source of revenue and income. Therefore, much could be gained by assessing the vulnerability of the SIDS tourism sector and by identifying measures that may assist these islands in their sustainable adaptation efforts. Against this background, this interdisciplinary paper provides a review of tourism development and the implications of its emissions on the global climate, linked with observed and projected influences of climate change in the Pacific region, to explain the growing vulnerability of the overall sector, with a particular focus on SIDS tourism. A description of the effects of COVID-19 on international tourism and its consequences for SIDS complement the analysis. Case studies of two Pacific islands present some evidence of current climate impacts, underscoring the multiple risks small island nations and their tourism sectors face. The paper concludes by stating that some measures may be prioritized by decision-makers, so as to increase the resilience of a transforming tourism sector in SIDS.

Pulau Kecil Gelasa merupakan daerah yang belum banyak diteliti. Pemetaan ekosistem di pulau kecil dilakukan dengan bantuan citra Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS). Penelitian terdahulu diketahui bahwa ALOS memiliki kemampuan memetakan terumbu karang dan padang lamun di perairan dangkal serta mampu memetakan kerapatan penutupan vegetasi. Metode interpretasi citra menggunakan alogaritma indeks vegetasi pada citra ALOS yaitu NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), serta pendekatan Lyzengga untuk mengkoreksi kolom perairan. Hasil penelitian didapatkan luasan Padang Lamun di perairan dangkal 41,99 Ha, luasan Terumbu Karang 125,57 Ha. Hasil NDVI di daratan/ pulau kecil Gelasa untuk Vegetasi Rapat seluas 47,62 Ha; luasan penutupan Vegetasi Sedang 105,86 Ha; dan penutupan Vegetasi Jarang adalah 34,24 Ha.   Small Island Gelasa rarely studied. Mapping ecosystems on small islands with the image of Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS). Previous research has found that ALOS has the ability to map coral reefs and seagrass beds in shallow water, and is able to map vegetation cover density. The method of image interpretation uses the vegetation index algorithm in the ALOS image, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), and the Lyzengga approach to correct the water column. The results of the study were obtained in the area of Seagrass Padang in the shallow waters of 41.99 ha, the area of coral reefs was 125.57 ha. NDVI results on land / small islands Gelasa for dense vegetation of 47.62 ha; area of Medium Vegetation coverage 105.86 Ha; and the coverage of Rare Vegetation is 34.24 Ha.
