The article summarizes the arguments within the scientific discussion about the search of alternative sources of research universities funding in the absence of sufficient support from the government. The main objective of the research is to define the possibility of using the endowment as a fundraising tool to attract alternative sources of funding for research universities in Ukraine. The relevance of solving this scientific issue lies in the fact that modern research universities are independent entities, which according to the Bologna Declaration assume the entire load on the future of the state and have to do it at the highest professional level. This can be ensured through a combination of traditional and modern sources of funding. The world experience of successful implementation of the endowment has been presented. The level of knowledge intensity of GDP, which is one of the key indicators that reflects the level of quality of higher education, has been analyzed. The endowment as one of the most effective fundraising tools is poorly developed in Ukraine. This fact has prompted us to research the main provisions of this phenomenon and to define the conditions for its implementation in Ukrainian research-based institutions of higher education by means of the strategic analysis. The conducted SWOT analysis has made it possible to systematize problem areas of the domestic market of educational services in the direction of creating and using the endowment and predicting possible strategies for its development. Since the Research Universities are considered to be the core of creation of intellectual and innovative products and the crucial mover of scientific and technological progress in the country and in the world, they have been chosen as the research object.  Keywords: fundraising, endowment, Research University, market of educational services, investment, alternative sources of funding

By taking a case study at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA), this article aims to analyze and provide recommendations for the plan to establish a new academic of undergraduate degree program. Analysis of the institutional and technical environment that affects the legitimacy and sustainability of the university. This study uses the SWOT analysis method in the perspective of Business Analytics, where data availability plays a key role.

Talking about strategic management (MS), automatic also talks about TOWS and SWOT analysis. TOWS-K analysis is often equated with a SWOT analysis, because they pay attention to internal variables, namely Strength (S) and Weakness (W) and external variables, namely Opportunities (O) and Threats (T). Seen from the historical point of view, can be found two types of analysis, the TOWS-K analysis was first in the 1960s while the SWOT analysis was in the 1990s. Institute of  Islamic Religion Ma'had Aly Al-Hikam (STAIMA Al-Hikam Malang) is a higher education institution (institute) who had stood 17 years ago in 2003. Researcher had not received the study discussed strategic management. The study about this institution in facing the future, especially in the industrial era 4.0. In the Malang city, in the last 10 years many higher education institutions (universities / PT) have been established, which until now there are 50 universities. This research examines and explores the S-W-O-T variable owned by STAIMA Al-Hikam Malang, whose results can be used in determining future policies.

The study aimed to develop strategic alternatives to activate volunteer work among Omani youth. SWOT analysis was used to indicate the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges faced by youth. A questionnaire of 32 items with two domains was developed. An estimation of reliability using Cronbach-Alpha indicated 0.887 for level of effectiveness, and 0.918 for level of existences. A sample of 89 experts from civil society organizations and higher education institutions from different Omani governorates was selected. The results revealed that the most powerful aspects of volunteering were the incentives to encourage youth, notably the Sultan Qaboos Award for Volunteerings at the national level, and the existence of many charities, including those related to women associations, and others that provide voluntarily services to special needs people. The overall average weight of the strengths and weaknesses was 194.44 and 186.46 respectively. The main opportunities were reflected by existing governmental departments to follow up the work of the voluntary institutions, and the NGO civil societies’ global awareness of volunteering. Further, the study results showed that average percentage means of opportunities and challenges were 145.04 and 143.79 respectively. Considering these results, four strategic alternatives were developed.

Talking about human development, the topic that keeps existing in higher education is skill-gap between university and industry. The challenge is getting harder with shifting conditions in the globe including the issue of industrial revolution 4.0. This challenge has an immediate effect on the existence and the development of vocational academy such as Indonesian Civil Aviation Institute. Therefore, this study explores the changes that occur in as Indonesian Civil Aviation Institute as a result of higher education policy in Indonesia. This study uses SWOT analysis to examine the strategies taken by this university to encounter the issue. <p><strong>Purpose</strong> – The purpose of this study to overview the trends of higher education globally, within Asia Pacific Region and specially in Pakistan. Most importantly, current study highlights the strengths and opportunities as well as weakness and threads of Pakistan’s higher education system by proposing a SWOT analysis of higher education internationalization.</p><p><strong>Design/methodology/approach</strong> – This review paper is meant to appear in conjunction with more discrete and in-depth previous literature regarding higher education internationalization. </p><p><strong>Findings</strong> – It is investigated that higher education institutions in Pakistan are in need to rethink and reshape internationalization strategies following global standard which would be useful for the smooth drive towards global knowledge society and quality of higher education can be enhanced by developing internationalized curriculum, recruiting international students and staff and establishing international research collaboration programs.</p><p><strong>Originality/value</strong> – In this study a SWOT analysis of internationalization has been proposed which illustrates the internal and external factors which are positively or negatively impacting the higher education system in Pakistan.</p>

Considering the lack of research focusing on the use of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as performance evaluation tool in Emirati higher education institutions, the main purpose of the study is to present a basis for a more general BSC model helping higher education managers in UAE environment for evaluating and managing the performance of their institutions. This paper is based on the case study as a research method. However, the relevance of this case study lies in the use of a joint approach combining SWOT analysis and BSC and generating an integrated strategic management system. The study comes up with a strategic evaluation plan considering the 4 BSC perspectives and designs the strategy map for it in the case of the Emirates College of Business. In this research, the traditional customer perspective of Kaplan and Norton is replaced by the students and stakeholders perspective. It is found that there is a limitation in the effective strategic problem that leads to the recruitment and placement issues, increased costs, student retention, lack of partnerships, a decrease in annual growth of income and poor performance management that can be managed through effective strategic planning. The study also reflects that there is a range of opportunities that can be exploited using the strengths in order to achieve the goals. The outcomes of this study case can be employed in the strategic planning of ECB and all other Emirati business institutions can be inspired.
