AbstractA formal expansion of the CRM in powers of a small parameter is presented. The terms of the expansion are products of matrices. Inverses are interpreted as effects of cascades.It will be shown that this allows for the separation of the different contributions to the populations, thus providing a natural classification scheme for processes involving atoms in plasmas. Sum rules can be formulated, allowing the population of the levels, in some simple cases, to be related in a transparent way to the quantum numbers.

Combustion Processes

The reaction O + OH → O2 + H in conditions of combustion of hydrocarbons and polymers was modelled by using the method of quasiclassical trajectories. The potential energy surface was determined by the multiconfiguration interaction method and fitted with the analytical form of the extended LEPS function. Attention was paid to the mean values of the vibrational and rotational quantum numbers of O2 molecules and their temperature dependence. The temperature dependence of the mean lifetime of the OOH collision complex was also examined. The calculated rate constants were analyzed and compared with the experimental data over the temperature region of the combustion processes.

Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle

The subject of Chapter 8 is the fundamental principles of quantum theory, the abstract extension of quantum mechanics. Two of the entities explored are kets and operators, with kets being representations of quantum states as well as a source of wave functions. The quantum box and quantum spin kets are specified, as are the quantum numbers that identify them. Operators are introduced and defined in part as the symbolic representations of observable quantities such as position, momentum and quantum spin. Eigenvalues and eigenkets are defined and discussed, with the former identified as the possible outcomes of a measurement. Bras, the counterpart to kets, are introduced as the means of forming probability amplitudes from kets. Products of operators are examined, as is their role underpinning Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle. A variety of symbol manipulations are presented. How measurements are believed to collapse linear superpositions to one term of the sum is explored.

Abstract We uncover a Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT)-type factorization of closed string amplitudes into open string amplitudes for closed string states carrying winding and momentum in toroidal compactifications. The winding and momentum closed string quantum numbers map respectively to the integer and fractional winding quantum numbers of open strings ending on a D-brane array localized in the compactified directions. The closed string amplitudes factorize into products of open string scattering amplitudes with the open strings ending on a D-brane configuration determined by closed string data.

In this work, the genuine resonance states of full-charm tetraquark systems with quantum numbers JPC=0++,1+−,2++ are searched in a nonrelativistic chiral quark model with the help of the Gaussian Expansion Method. In this calculation, two structures, meson-meson and diquark–antidiquark, as well as their mixing with all possible color-spin configurations, are considered. The results show that no bound states can be formed. However, resonances are possible because of the color structure. The genuine resonances are identified by the stabilization method (real scaling method). Several resonances for the full-charm system are proposed, and some of them are reasonable candidates for the full-charm states recently reported by LHCb.

AbstractThe dynamics of the subatomic fundamental particles, represented by quantum fields, and their interactions are determined uniquely by the assigned transformation properties, i.e., the quantum numbers associated with the underlying symmetry of the model under consideration. These fields constitute a finite number of group invariant operators which are assembled to build a polynomial, known as the Lagrangian of that particular model. The order of the polynomial is determined by the mass dimension. In this paper, we have introduced an automated $${\texttt {Mathematica}}^{\tiny \textregistered }$$ Mathematica ® package, GrIP, that computes the complete set of operators that form a basis at each such order for a model containing any number of fields transforming under connected compact groups. The spacetime symmetry is restricted to the Lorentz group. The first part of the paper is dedicated to formulating the algorithm of GrIP. In this context, the detailed and explicit construction of the characters of different representations corresponding to connected compact groups and respective Haar measures have been discussed in terms of the coordinates of their respective maximal torus. In the second part, we have documented the user manual of GrIP that captures the generic features of the main program and guides to prepare the input file. We have attached a sub-program CHaar to compute characters and Haar measures for $$SU(N), SO(2N), SO(2N+1), Sp(2N)$$ S U ( N ) , S O ( 2 N ) , S O ( 2 N + 1 ) , S p ( 2 N ) . This program works very efficiently to find out the higher mass (non-supersymmetric) and canonical (supersymmetric) dimensional operators relevant to the effective field theory (EFT). We have demonstrated the working principles with two examples: the standard model (SM) and the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We have further highlighted important features of GrIP, e.g., identification of effective operators leading to specific rare processes linked with the violation of baryon and lepton numbers, using several beyond standard model (BSM) scenarios. We have also tabulated a complete set of dimension-6 operators for each such model. Some of the operators possess rich flavour structures which are discussed in detail. This work paves the way towards BSM-EFT.

Highly excited atoms acquire very large dimensions and can be present only in a very rarified gas medium, such as the interstellar space. Multiply excited beryllium-like systems, when excited to large principal quantum numbers, have a radius of r ? 10 ?. We examine the semiclassical spectrum of quadruple highly excited four-electron atomic systems for the plane model of equivalent electrons. The energy of the system consists of rotational and vibrational modes within the almost circular orbit approximation, as used in a previous calculation for the triply excited three-electron systems. Here we present numerical results for the beryllium atom. The lifetimes of the semiclassical states are estimated via the corresponding Lyapunov exponents. The vibrational modes relative contribution to the energy levels rises with the degree of the Coulombic excitation. The relevance of the results is discussed both from the observational and heuristic point of view.
